- A new version of mIRC has been released. Though not exactly CS related, a lot of clans and normal folk use this to communicate. After you've grabbed the latest version, you can check out our chat room here (the link only works in Internet Explorer, we're at irc.gamesnet.net #csn).



- In a totally unrelated event oSkar sent this in (This only applies to you crazy Brits!): QUB-Lan will be held in the snack bar of the students union of the Queen's University Belfast. It's starting at 8pm on Friday the 17th of November and going on until 8pm on Saturday the 18th. All the proceeds are going to Children in Need (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cin). The entrance fee is £10, with free food and coffee being laid on by the QUB Student's Union. - ClanWorld has slapped up an interview with Gustavo. They discuss his past maps (all unofficial) and a new one that's in the works.



- A new version of DirectX has been released. The download should be around 7 megs, and you might need to update your video card drivers after loading this big boy up.



- [CK3]-Big_V will be taking over (for lack of good words) the RITD, or Rumble in the Desert, league.



- Barney sends word that his new dam(n) map will be released in future versions of Counter-Strike.



- Today, Half-Life is officially two years old! Also today: The Marine Core turns 225, Americans observe Veterans Day, and Canadians observe Rememberance Day. Hmm, today's a cool day!

- SAS has updated his CS guide over at Barry's World to reflect the changes in 1.0. The guide is great, and is a must read! Why am I making this a newsbit then? Because I'm too lazy to make two posts. Sorry!



- NextWish has updated his aliases to CS 1.0. They're in BETA so there will be no support for them, as of yet. You can grab them here.

- Gamespot has put up 3 different movies of in-game counter-strike footage, you can get those here



- CS Mapping @ Planet Half-Life has put up 3 different tutorials that anyone new to the mapping community should check out, some usefull stuff there. CS Mapping also has news that they will be releasing a map pack soon, that is going to consist of a few new maps, you can check out some screens here



- Niel from terroristswin.com sent an email my way saying that "We have changed the Northern qualifier from Newcastle to Nottingham. This, I hope will allow more people to sign up and get this thing going"

» Version 1.0 of the Half-Life configurator has been released which includes Counter-Strike support, you can grab that here



» ClanBase received a response from Valve's Yahn Bernier that counter-strike will once again be able to play demos in the release of version 1.1 to come in january



» OzCstrike, the site that keeps on giving has put up an article on camping in couter-strike, you can catch it here



» DRNet, A relatively new, nice and friendly IRC network has been put up, connect to them in mirc by typing /server irc.r00tabega.org (those are zero's, kiddies). If you're new to IRC, DRNet has written a very complex help page that covers every detail, read it here. They have a counter-strike channel you can get to by going to #cs while on their network

As far as the "CS killer" article goes, I disagree. Without the success of CS, many mod makers wouldn't have the motivation to usurp the king or try to attain the level of fame CS has. It's their opinion, though.
