  • Xbox One and Call of Duty Top the NPD Charts for November 2014

The Xbox One has taken the crown from the PlayStation 4 by ending its ten month streak on top of the NPD hardware sales charts.

It's also known that November 2014 is now the best performing month in the history of the Xbox One. Their previous best was November 2013 with over 909,000 units sold. That means that they sold more than that this past month, no doubt helped out by some strong bundle offerings and a hefty price reduction. There has been no word from Sony on how well the PlayStation 4 sold.

Update: We initially had reports that the differences in units sold between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were only around 10,000 units. However, newer reports have come in (read as: rumors) that suggest the differences between the two consoles is upwards of 400,000 units for the month of November. This is huge for Microsoft. They made up significant ground on the roughly 1.1 million unit lead that Sony had going into November. Sony still maintains the overall market share but their lead has been cut down to roughly 700,000 units now after Microsoft's incredibly strong November.

Nintendo had a strong showing in November. Sales of Smash Bros. for the Wii U surpassed 710K. Pokemon titles surpassed 1.5 million units sold. Smash for the 3DS also surpassed 1.5 million units sold. Overall, Nintendo revealed that Wii U software sales are up 90% and 3DS software is up 40% when compared to last year.

Combined, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One continue to outpace their predecessors. The NPD notes that "cumulative sales are now almost 80% higher than the combined total of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sales after 13 months."

On the software side of things, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare again reigns supreme.
1.) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
    2.) Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
3.) Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)
    4.) Madden NFL 15 (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
    5.) Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
    6.) Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
    7.) Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
    8.) NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
    9.) Assassin's Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
10.) Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

Surprisingly, Advanced Warfare has sold more copies on the Xbox 360 compared to any other platform. The PC, according to the above list, was the weakest performer. It's also interesting to note that Halo: The Master Chief Collection only sold enough to make it to the tenth position on the top sellers. It's also interesting to note that Dragon Age: Inquisition is nowhere to be seen on the list.
