  • Driveclub Director Says 1080p/30fps is "Absolutely the Best Thing" for the Game

Paul Rustchynsky, the game director for Driveclub has confirmed that the upcoming racer will run at 1080p and 30 frames per second. That's not to say that they didn't hope for 30fps but it just wasn't in the cards.

In speaking with VG247, Rustchynsky explains why a higher resolution but at 30fps is better for Driveclub.
“[Striving for 60FPS] was something that we stated as an early target to ourselves.

“As we’ve got more familiar with the hardware, and also, looking at what we wanted from the game, we decided that 1080p, 30 frames per second is absolutely the best thing, because what that allows us to do is to deliver the most detailed cars in-race that you will ever have seen.

“It’s allowed us to create some of the biggest tracks you will ever see in a racing game, with the most visually-dense environments, as well as a full global illumination system which allows us to make time of day, where shadows are cast, full-on reflections. It’s allowed us to push all those various areas.”

He even compared the visual fidelity in the game to Infamous: Second Son that looked great while maintaining at least 30 frames per second*. Still though, 60 frames per second for a racing title is typically preferred by fans. We'll see how this pays off for them.

*Infamous has a variable framerate of between 30-60fps. An option was added in a patch for the game to lock it to 30fps if a person preferred.
