GTA4 is no where near as bad as going into an Airport and slaughtering the masses.

Ranger, come on now. You get health by picking up prostitutes then kill them to get your money back. If anything you should lose health when doing that.

Then there is the whole vehicle hijack and killing police and civilians, etc...

Now I am not saying the MW2 stuff is gravy, but compared to the GTAs, you are committing less crimes.

Does the game really affect you guys that much from seeing some terrorists shoot civilians?

It's not just the fact that it's "some terrorist shooting civilians." It's about the presentation.

It's brutal and very in your face. In GTA you can shoot civlians but they do not react the way the people in this clip are reacting. They don't try to crawl away to save their life or attempt to help a loved one. Even the way the character moves is very deliberate in this clip. It's calm, slow. GTA is usually all about running around gunning things down.

I'd say on the scale of "messed up" this is by far much more messed up than what was seen in most other games.

Yea i agree, GTA feels very tame in comparison to the shots seen in that video. I mean im not against it, i like a bit of grit and dirt in games, but this is a little odd.

MW2 airport is just so much more brutal, I mean it puts you on a path filled with civilians and that is the only way to go and then the second story thing (later mentioned with, "I should of thrown a grenade"). GTA knows not to put you in a mission that requires you to do that, they know that would be the line. I mean they removed wings from planes and changed the color of Police cars after 9/11.

In GTA nobody is forcing you to kill the masses in order to progress the game. In most of the missions you pretty much kill armed mobsters and, of course, cops. There is no mission in the game (story wise) that forces you to kill civilians. ITS YOUR CHOICE.

In MW2, in order to progress the story you will be forced to kill all the people at the airport (if that mission is optional, then that's a different story). Can't say for sure, but I think that will be the objective from what I've seen in the video and the trailer.

I think they mentioned something about causing havoc or kill one VIP in the video. I mean looking at it I can see that you could potentially progress without shooting at the civis, except the armed guys a little while later.

I remember playing COD2 there were sections that you could move forward without shooting a single time (easier beginning sections). I mean I got stuck in areas because I hunkered down and didn't move forward when that was all that was needed to progress.

It's too early to tell, but I think IW wouldn't force you to kill all the people, that would be pretty weird considering the target audience for the game. It depends if you will be given choice to kill civilians or just go after the VIP, like Ranger said.

Some people might be offended by this but in the end it's just a game.

Considering that the last GTA didn't cause much fuss in the mass media, this one will probably go unnoticed.

This is no where near as surprising to me as pulling the dedicated servers from the game.

That was a shock to me.... this is just icing on the cake so to speak.

They ( IW ) are banking on the success of COD4. They know because of the success of COD4 they will still make all the money they need from this title.

Heck I would bet 90% of the people that "have a problem" with this will still go and purchase the game.

The real shock is going to happen when the American masses will see Thompson taking a jab at it. Because thus very same thread shows just how sensitive people are. Overly sentitive.

This part of the game accomplishes something extremely important. When you start firing at those civilians and play through that segment, if you feel terrible about what you just did, then the game accomplished two things. A, it immersed you enough for you to CARE what you did. B, it delivered the "terrorism is wrong" message better and more clearly than any newsfootage.

All I see here is a bunch of complaining about "someone taking imagery too far". It hasnt really stopped you from slaughtering millions of pictorial figures in various games, has it? Im half-russian, you know how bad I feel killing my countrymen in every game? /sarcasm

Please, dont let the community create unnecessary drama about something which may very well be one of the most dramatic sequences in videogames.

Zips. I have a counterargument to this. In GTA, people scream a lot more, and you actually kill women. MW2 will be so scripted to hell that all that is required from you is to walk backwards to the next scripted point, without having to kill a single "civillian".

I agree its a game but there is also a lot of principle behind it too. You are in essence playing a terrorist whos motivation is to go in and kill a bound of innocent hostages in an airport. Game or not, thats a pretty sick mentality.
