Change had for have with DC and FH, and what a pain this doesn't happen with EoD, GC and other fantastic BF42 mods, because they still rock
You're right, my mistake. Just recently I re-downloaded FH for '42 and gave it a go. Wolfservers (I believe) was hard to get into! I did the same for DC and they have full servers too.
Galactic Conquest was an absolute B-L-A-S-T .. I loved how they pulled off the warfare in space.
Anyhoo, most people just don't realize how long it takes to make high quality mods. It's not like devs dont want to release it or something. Telling them to change their ambitions for the mod is silly -- it wouldn't be what it is if the devs of a mod didn't do it exactly the way they want.
You are bloody right, I think moders are already very tired of explain to the "release it now, I don't care if is buggy" guys why is not a good idea, so I will not explain it for n time :p
I think thats its been proven by DICE that, that is the worst thing to do
Why does everyone have to compare DICE's patch efforts to those of mod dev's? Each have their own "quality control" issues.
I seem to remember a certain mod that used to have a release every 45 days as their target! If something was unbalanced you only had a month to complain about it
After the few comments quoting my post, do people still believe there are "ALOT" of bf42 mods still played? I don't think so. Im my book alot should equate to more than 2 or 3!
I'd actually played bf42 this week for a couple of hours. There were about 2 dozen bf42 servers in my region (southern hemi) and of those about 1/2 were populated and about half of those were desert combat. Unfortunatly not a single other b42 mod!
I think that those numbers alone is pretty good considering that the last "official" release of DC was around oct 2004! That says alot about building a mod around what people liked and incorporating feedback into the next release.
All I'm saying is that while it is good for mod dev's to deliver a finished mod it seems to be the better strategy to release a smaller one to build up a base of players before they disperse to other games. I've watched this with bf42 and bfv. And will happen with bf2 unfortunatly.
With the very high apparent* skill level of the guys working on the FH mod I would have hoped the same fate of BF42 FH doesn't happen to FH 2!
This isn't in any way bagging any of the mod dev's. I give them all the best and hope they get all the recognition they deserve!
I'm hoping FH plays as good as it looks!
*there is only so much info you can get from a screenshot *hint* *hint*
1. Desert Combat just edited BF42 maps and used its WW2 statics during one year or more, and they never removed those maps from the mod. It's fine with me, it's their decission, we don't want to place panzers in Kubra Dam or use TV broadcast buildings, period.
2. Desert Combat is arcade, the abrams tank has the same features, strenghts and weakness of the iraqui counterpart, the same for each plane, heli, weapons and car in the mod, or small diferences, but nothing really umbalanced. FH is a realism mod, the matilda 2 is unbeatable for a panzer2, the panzer 2 tanker can shoot a matilda 2 till sun goes nova and he will not get to scratch the paint, so the germans fellows need a flak 18 to destroy the matilda or they will whine, logically in my book. Like this thousand examples. So we must make those stupid things, like the flak 18, FH can't be released with a couple tanks and planes and then add a new one each 45 days.
3. Desert Combat designed the game to have just 2 armies, 1 tank per side, some planes, couple cars, some self propelled pieces...you get my point?. FH is an historic mod so we can't just stop when the matilda is done, because an Alamein map without shermans is nonsense, or a Gazala map without the Grant is nonsense, we can't just make the crusader 3 tank because in the early battles it didn't exist, so we need a crusader 1, etc, etc, etc
