That's a great port work you have done. But it's obviously a port, which is a HUGE no no with EA. Just like those static's you ported and got spanked for, I expect EA will be knocking on your door again soon enough.
Making a heightmap like the ones in 1942 by hand would be almost impossible except for Berlin perhaps. And considering Terragen or Worldmap are not perfectly accurate but rather give you random terrain in the basic shape you want it, I find it hard to believe it would all be so exact.
I also find it very hard to believe that you could have such great skill to make a map of that caliber yet don't even know how to run low detail settings for your textures. My bet is you simply found a nice tutorial and used that to make the port and then did a couple little tweaks by hand hoping you would not get caught.
Why don't you guys be more original instead of pushing a copy of something that was once great. Instead of making an El Alemien, why dont you make what it should have been..
Be original.
He makes a good point. It's great you like the mod, but you have to remember that all mods have to abide by the guidlines given out by EA. I should have simply quoted your post and referred it towards you .
This is what everyone wants, everyones waiting for the return of el alamein, with bf2 graphics. ive played other custom versions and none of them have come close.
I find it hilarious that ppl would actually flame this.
Look at wake, its probably the most popular non urban map for bf2.
Why re-make old maps?? Cause its what the ppl want.

because they dont want the mod to be popular for their own twisted reasons
They said they didn't directly port the map so why are you guys accusing them of it? Obvously it wasn't since the buildings don't line up.
if u did a import of a BF1942 map, the buildings probaly wont line up even if you use the same x, y and z cordintis.
to me personly it dose look like a import mainly due to things like the exstramly accrute terrain, the bland colormaps with no low detail, and the colormaps do look the same as they did in BF1942 (thou i didnt play it much). the lightmpas also do not look like they where made by BF2 but i wouldnt know if u could import BF1942 lightmaps into a BF2 map.
But im not here to go though all this crap. If EA think the same thing the DC guys will defintly know about it sooner or later.
Well I think its great what desert conflict team is doing, and I think its going along the best it could. We all know that mods are the best thing thats ever going to happen to BF2 because this game is not improving with these crappy patches. I look foward to your work dcon team and hopeing that bf2 becomes the quality game that DC was.

If you will bother to use the BF2Editor you will see that the screenshot was taken at standard settings. At a distance (in the editor) detail doesn't show up, you have to be about 2m from the ground to see anything besides a color blob. Second, the default view distance is set to 850m and you can disable fog altogether while working in the editor. Third, importing hightmaps and lightmaps from DC/1942 is impossible. The buildings could have been copied, but I doubt that is possible either. This is a great work, now hurry up and release so I can play :P
