3) how about instead, they just didnt blow up when time ran out, but instead sailed to thier target?
4) helis are fine, just like any weapon on the battlefield, they are suseptable to attack, pre patch, they could be immortal, if you make them strong again, dont let eng repair in back.
5)YES!
I like that idea, no guiding after 400m, but you can stay in the view and watch if ya want.
Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch
Shall I repeat, if any of those pilots had tried to "evade" in any way, shape, or form, it would've made absolutely zero difference. In fact, I wanted them to evade, as you can notice in the video I fire one missile at a time very slowly. I wanted the first missile to hit them and scare them in to doing some wild evasive flips which would've made absolutely no difference and added to the comedy factor. Instead they either just kept going, or in that one instance, bailed out completely. But please try and understand, doing fancy flips and barrel rolls and all of that jazz would've made no difference in their survival, but it would've made for a more entertaining video.

Precisely.
The only change (I mentioned it in another thread and someone else mentioned it in this thread) that I think could and should be made would be give the jets a set amount of flares to be used as they wish. Say 3 per fighter. These would be restocked when returning to the airfield.
By doing this, it would give pilots an opportunity to try and evade a jet on their six. It wouldn't be drop one set of flares and then get shot out of the sky. They would have several opportunities to drop flares and evade. If they couldn't do it, then they deserve to go down. If they were already out of them from a previous encounter, they deserve to go down.
I don't have any issues with the way things are now. I like knowing that I could be locked and shot down at a moments notice. I pay much more attention to the air now. It could use a minor tweak as mentioned above, but it's really not so bad in my opinion. It more closely resembles the modern combat that the game is trying to portray.

I personally suck when flying so i dont bother, infact i dont care much about this thread. But people, this Star wars obsession by homo erotic nerds has got to stop. its a good series i admit i enjoy the story but you people with your jedi this and jedi that, naming yourselves "darth-icantgetagirlfriend" and everything. wow you guys are losers. I honestly mean no offense, im just trying to do a public service here.

Everything is, if youre stubborn enough .
I would like to slap all those who say "this is modern air combat" in the face, first. Give them a bottle of good old ale, second. And try to explain why a game cant and shouldnt simulate the real world at some times.
I believe and I love it when a game is as real as it gets. Seriously, although I hate it when people bring in the reality factor, I like the fact that we have tools from modern combat at our disposal. But, remember, gentlemen, real life is not fun, game is. And his game has been made so it would be fun. That means- no 1s1k weapons (not literally, but you get the point). Everything that you use needs skills to use. You dont own infantry in a tank automatically once you sit in there. Same with jets. And you dont own ANYONE if youve got a rocket launcher against someones carabine (obvious referance to sci-fi FPS games where bigger firepower wins). You DONT own ANYONE in jets, and you should never have a weapon where all you have to do is simply click to get your opponent out of the skies.
STA is different because of this issue- in a middle of a fierce firefight, a grunt has to have an access to kill/scare away the air threat. Hes specialized in ground combat, he shouldnt be specialized in ground AND AA combat. SO they gave them the weapon that takes minimum adjustment time. A 100% STA. Fine.
However, once youre in that cocpit, son, you better be good. You better be specialized. Or join the club and start learning like we all did. You need help? www.totalbf2.com, secretsofbattlefield.com, personal experiences, PRACTICE.
THIS is how it should be in order to get better and in order to taek someone out. If you lack the skills, you get sum´. You dont get a weapon you can you use REGARDLESS of the circumstances, just get a lock on and shoot. No, you get a weapon that you have to LEARN to use, just like each and everyone in this game is doing/has been doing/has done.
This is not a real life simulator, therefore do not advocate the new missiles as bringing the game closer to "as real as it gets". The missiles used skills and experience prepatch, just like any other weapon and this is the natural course in any game.
In order to get successful, you play more and work more. Not whine and ask for more.
Lets get a laugh at the people who think that "now you have to evade". Gentlemen, may I ask you, what the hell were you doing before that? Ive only encountered 5 pilots maximum, who resorted to hard turning. 3 of them were shot down, I couldnt take out 1 other because I just wasnt good enough at the time. And 1 had a superior plane.
Well dogfighting is something from the WW2 era, it's just not fitting in a modern combat setting. It's all about seeing the other before he sees you fire the missiles and bye bye.
One of the many reasons I'm not a big fan of modern combat, although armor and infantry still is fun the air segment just overpowers everything.
2WW era dogfighting in BF2 was fun. Draw your own conclusions from here on.
Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch
Mr Smith.
exactly its on a different level. whats on the same level? you guessed it, a jet. weapons of the same level should be able to dispatch one another with ease.
No. No. No. Just as having a gun pointed towards someone shouldnt grant you the victory, a fire and forget weapon shouldnt either. DICE did a perfect job for A2A dumbing the Fire and Forget weapon. People relied on their maneuvering skills rather than this seemingly simple to use weapon. S2A now is fine if we look at it from the perspective I presented to you in my last post.
Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch
@Planewhore:
I have to say that your video makes no sense. You make it sound like the AA is impossible to beat, but the very first thing you do in the video is fire 2 missles at a plane who drops flares, and the missles miss. And most of the combat shown looked like the person on the other end was just giving you the a free kill, not trying to get away at all....
A missle lock doesn't mean a dogfight is starting, it means it's over. The fight begins as soon as you guys see each other, you want to live, don't let him get a lock.
Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch
I feel we have all come to the conclusion that Surface to air is fine..its air to air thats a joke now.
SIgh.....just not true.
Ground AA is a joke vs choppers. There is zero hope, they never miss...ever....
So you say...fly low then!
Ok great so two options.
Use my superior skill to fly below the AA and so kill nothing...meh.
Or fly so I can kill stuff and be shot down by some noob who did nothing more than left click twice....
Meh....what a PERFECT solution to AA.....
Give the noobs autokilling stingers where all you have to do is left click, not even in the general direction, the missiles are so smart....LOL
Ground to Air needs to involve skill, perhaps a person guiding the missile most of the way to the target, then the missile locks on....
It wouldn't be so bad had they not lowered hp on choppers.
And planewhore is correct about jets as well.
don't let him get a lock.
Thats the thing, you drop flares and thats all you can do....if you turn, so does he, you make wild turns...it doesn't matter...the missiles are so accuracte you will never live.

You lie!
Amusing to notice that despire your claim, you did a look back and clearly showed you were in fact flying an F-18 (at least during that part of the clip).
Would you care to feed the community another helping of self indulgent BS?

I just like PW's uncanny ability to ignore every cogent argument against him in favor of blindly spilling his usual, single-minded nonsense. He must be a car salesman in real life.
