Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I'm my biggest critic, and I'm being honest when I say I can't find a flaw in my proposal.
Apparently you are suffering from a severe memory loss, as I "vividly" remember tons of guys far more critical of you than yourself.

They differ because for example a soldier can move left right forward backwards and in a diagonal fashion without having to interconnect the motions meaning just because a soldier is running forward doesn't mean they can't instantly stop, jump or duck, or run backwards.
Yeah, but he does that at an absolute speed of about (guesstimate) 20 km/h, which means that you don´t have to apply much lead with any weapon. OTOH the plane´s speed relative to projectiles and missiles is magnitudes higher. You simply can´t "easily hit" planes moving at the same angular speed across the screen as an infantry soldier, as they are inevitably farther away then and >50 times faster.

Infantry move just as fast if not faster than a plane when they're moving along, and present a much more difficult target as you'd need to be more precise shooting a gun at infantry. So really, as long as you can aim and shoot with some accuracy AA based off my suggestions would not be difficult to use at all.
That´s a flawed comparison of course, as it doesn´t matter if the enemy infantry goes out of you sight picture for short time when shooting at them. Opposed to that, a plane moving out of the sight of your proposed AA means instant loss of lock, which is BS. If I want that kind of "gameplay" I play some silly flash game where I have to guide my mouse cursor through a labyrinth.

My AA proposal would go something like this: Get rid of the stationary sites, give the AT (or other class) a MANPADS and maybe introduce some smaller, weaker AA vehicle. This way the AA isn´t restricted in location (and in turn employable tactics) and can be made a little less deadly per missile. Pilots and AA can then play hide and seek and everything´s fine.

So now there's something wrong with enjoying the fast pace this game used to have?

Also the AA usually does not look vertically =90deg. so all it takes to lose the lock is to pass right over it. We can keep arguing about this forever... at the end DICE will not make a new AA for this game.

I like the AA the way it is now and almost everyone here agree that it is balanced. it has a short range, but still very effective within that range.

still, many are complaining about the A2A missiles. Well, since they have nothing to do with how the AA is coded, DICE can make it somewhere between the pre-patch and post-patch status. maybe a lock angle of 105 is better than the 120 (for A2A only).

Any suggestions beyond adjusting the current AA will be a waste of time. DICE will never do it.

What he is saying is that having something that depends only on your reflexes is not the best idea... which is something I definitly agree with.

Aside from Duck's comment (which is quite right) it's also just a simple fact that skill isn't just about reflexes. You can have the best reflexes in the world, but if you keep doing stupid things, yer gonna get owned.

I also find that the current pacing is much faster than in 1.12. Now death comes quickly, even in the air.

Hehe, very true. Air combat is now much faster. One can wrack up the kills quickly downing pilot after pilot or be thoroughly ousted from your jet time and time again. The first person shooter aspect has finally arrived to the skies. After all, first and foremost BF2 is an fps, isn't it?

When I hear full lock and I'm out of flares I now have a clear choice. Either to eject from the plane and take on from where I left off on the ground leaving the jet to another teammate, or take my chances with the missile. If I choose the latter, I either go down with the jet (which is now highly likely) respawn and try again, or I escape the missile using terrain and manoeuvres.

Then you seem to be agreeing that superior hardware owns pure infantry. Thatll make the AA not balanced because it takes skills to guide the machine gun into the green box, but doesnt take skills to wait for a lock and release 2 missiles? Im saying it just to sweat you, BTW. STA is almost fine on my list, ALMOST fine. ATA is BS.

SK, my English isnt perfect but I could have sworn that critisim and insults are 2 different things. Memory loss isnt that bad compared to being a retard, BTW. My sympathy to you.

Jambo. Imagine a ground trooper has a "bullet lock" indicator. One which will beet as soon as someone is shooting at you. Imagine that infantry had homing bullets. Now. You too have some clear choices when theres a lock alarm. Either to quit the game, or embrace the death. But youd wish that your skill and experience would help you out of the tight spots, wouldnt you? I know I would. I wish that there was a chance for me, even when the weapon has been lanuched. That ground infantry unit, who hears the bullet lock would wish that there was something he could do aswell. And even though he was so good before that, he has the experience, the skills, he now hears how newbies preach the new system where the "first seen, first killed" rule prevails. That infantry unit doesnt like that at all.

Personally, its a game which is played for fun, but it shouldnst have a skill ceiling. A golden rule - in a direct confrontation, a player with the best skills and experience wins. This rule shouldnt be broken.

As a grunt, you don't get the warning.
You just get a nice picture of the sky with the words "Some Sniper [M95] You" or BOOM "Some airwhore [bombed yer] Arse".

Sorry, your argument doesn't hold water.

Thats why I specified my sentence with a "seem". It was a clear sign for you to clarify your argument

                        which green box?!
                        ATS targeting HUD green box.

Hmm, I clearly wrote it all up being hypothetical. I dont think there was other way around it.

Sorry if YOU didnt get it the first time, but you can always go back and read it again.

Yeah you're always killed with one shot. Always.

Come on wargimp, the majority of the times you are sniped by one shot you are standing still. With this buggy game you are more or less invulnerable to sniperfire if you just spam the movement keys randomly.

You also never hear the doppler whooooooooooosh coming at you before the bomb drops out of the sky. You also have no ability to judge where a plane is likeley to strafe or bomb a target because he can see individual infantry.

I would actually welcome a launch only warning for the planes and helos because all missiles in the game are passive seekers. Just simulate the helo/plane detecting the missile's IR emissions when fired then you have a very short interval of deploying countermeasures. Of course such an implementation will never happen because they would have to revamp the flare system and make the game less accessible. No warning is out of the question because it is a homing weapon. If they were unguided as in DC no warning would be fine but that is even more unlikely to happen.
