Actually a decent pilot will be able t hold a lock on to you for a very long time. But when in prepatch the lockon wasnt guaranteed success, it is now.

Dont be stupid. Were talking about dogfights. A jet is vastly superior to a boat. Its like youre moaning that a medic cant take out a tank and bringing an example of a medic sitting on a tree waiting for a Tankshell Express.

u r comparing different roles on the battlefield.
A boat's role is to transport, not to fight. it's a boat, it's not a gunship.

U can try to stay alive untill 3000 A.D. or something where IRL there are only unmanned jets. Post something like "go back to BF2, if u like to manually control ur jet so much, jeez", better yet, let ur computer do the typing ( or even thinking).

My solution for the air power in the next patch

              1. The AA. Needs to be made slightly less effective than it is now plus sort the oil tower bug.
              2. Keep the 8 missiles on the attack helicopters.
              3. TV range set to 600m to help counter new patch AA. Would be happy though if its kept at its new range of 450m.
              4. Set the hit points on the all helicopters at between new patch setting and patch v1.12 settings. The .50 calibre MG's on jeeps etc can take down a helicopter to quickly. Transport helicopters full of troops need more protection.
              5. Jets. Keep the current hit point settings as long as the new AA is reduced slightly. Making pilots land for big repairs is good thing, a new challange for some and will help reduce constant flag bombing. The improved AA has reduced carrier rapings, which is a good thing.

              IMHO, this is balance.

exactly its on a different level. whats on the same level? you guessed it, a jet. weapons of the same level should be able to dispatch one another with ease.

um ok? maybe for the next bf2 which is set in the future.

anyhow, you just disregarded the rest of the post to make that flame, i was commenting on how this is modern war, and missiles should kill jets, even ones that are turning. where as in 1942, there was no missiles, the way you want it.

                    1) how about 1.12 except they actually hit you?
                    2) yes!
                    3) how about instead, they just didnt blow up when time ran out, but instead sailed to thier target?
                    4) helis are fine, just like any weapon on the battlefield, they are suseptable to attack, pre patch, they could be immortal, if you make them strong again, dont let eng repair in back.
                    5)YES!

the air is better now, i could fly about all day before bombing etc now you have to think a bit more plus i know it must annoy the hell out of the ground forces when the Aa was pointless, i never thought twice before about the AA i do now and the games better for it

lol after the video the only thing I can say is welcome to modern combat, helicopters are just not used when there is no air superiority. In bf1942 you could shoot someone down in a blink of an eye with your wing or nose mounted MG's, this aint different. It's about getting on someones tail and getting a good lock. That is where the skill is at.

Btw. the pilots in the video didn't even make the slightest evasive manoeuvres and were all flying within 50 meters of the ground against a superior aircraft, no wonder they got shot down.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I just happened to go 70-0 that round, as I had the J-10 and that's an "I-WIN" button versus any other plane in a dogfight, unless they catch you with flares down. I guarantee if an F-35B had gotten on my tail and I had my flares up they'd be dying. That's not so much a product of my experience though, but rather the huge difference flying in a J-10 makes.

The enemy pilots didn't engage in violents manuevers to try to escape me, but it would have made absolutely zero difference, as a previous poster said I kept far back enough where I could've followed them without being forced to emulate their movements. In 1.1 you had to get closer to make missiles work, and that made dogfights even more fierce as when you're right behind a plane following them perfectly is a challenge.

I don't honestly see how certain individuals can proclaim that dogfighting in 1.2 is better than 1.1, because for me in 1.2 I can't get my heart in to it like I used to. As if the "soul" of dogfighting is gone.

Well dogfighting is something from the WW2 era, it's just not fitting in a modern combat setting. It's all about seeing the other before he sees you fire the missiles and bye bye.

One of the many reasons I'm not a big fan of modern combat, although armor and infantry still is fun the air segment just overpowers everything.
