Re: Why do 1.2 AA requires skill

Oh and remember guys... this thread is trying to argue that AA actually takes skill to operate which is complete bullsh!t. Anyone can operate it and anyone with a brain should know that its not hard to use an AA.

no, AA actually does take skill, just not your common FPS skill, but it does take timing and good common sense.

Have you seen those korean starcraft players? They may not be able to do anything in first person shooter, but you shouldn't say that they have no skill. Attack in starcraft is point and shoot too, guess what, skills still are there, and it's called micro management.

It takes a lot of management for you to not die in an AA turret.

I get shot down more from other planes than AA gotta find some manuevers to get behind planes while they chasing me and I'll be set.
well they also dont land in "hot Lz's" with enemy APC's and tanks around in real life, come on dude we are talking about a game....you should not expect to fly your BH through a valley full of armored vehicles and survive...

No, do you point it at someone's head and then click?

If the answer is 'Yes' then it is 'Point and click'.

Timing and good common sense... Okay, so AA takes a very limited amount of skill. What I'm saying here is no one is ever going to say.... Damn that guy is really good with AA.... Once you have figured out how it works you are an expert.

I believe you have to point the AA at the plane to score a hit too.

Re: Why do 1.2 AA requires skill

Let's all just blame modern technology for thier advances in surface to air combat! :P

Nah, I personally think that they screwed it up.

I am a chopper pilot and I think that's who got stiffed the most.
First, they reduced the hit points for all air vehicles, then they took the missle count down to 8 missles, and improved AA.

First of all, reducing the hit points shouldn't have been done. The Chopper and Airplanes were already vunerable. In a chopper, if you have a vodnik or hummer shooting at you, it's going to take down your hitpoints quite fast. Let alone 2 vodniks, they will completely shred you. Now in the new patch, 1 vodnik can tear you up.

For the 8 missle reduction, that was completely stiffing you, unless your a top 10 chopper pilot, it's going to take a few missles to realise where your missles are hitting. After that, it only takes a few to hit what you are wanting to and destroy it. For air-to-air fights, it's just completely useless with 8 missles, you pretty much have to depend on the co-pilot. And in pub's, a good co-pilot? LOL pls. Chances of that are 1 in a hundred.

                  Now improved AA...
Good idea, but it was done poorly. They didn't remove any AA from the map, so in a place like Sharqi... I get hit twice BEFORE I even get to the shore! And have to go back to repair. If I eventually get to shore, another AA is locking onto me. I think if they were to remove some AA's from the map, it would be better. Also the range seems to be the same for the AA. If the detection range for it would be reduced, that would be a lot better then. Not get locked on before you can even see the Chopper/Plane.

If they brought back the hitpoints for the vehicles and reduced range for the AA, and less AA sites, then it would be better balanced.

Sorry if I seem one sided on the Chopper, that's what I mainly am, is a chopper pilot.

That's just my 2 cents along the 1 million other cents laying around ;P
*picks up all the cents and becomes rich*

Do you guys remember flying helicopters in BF:V? No? What's that game you ask?

Well for the guys that do you should remember that in some maps Helis were unstoppable and in others you couldn't even get very far from the base. The AA tank in that game was incredible at taking things out of the sky but the AA they added in maps that suffered from severe spawn point camping was rediculous. Remember those things? The quad MG emplacement that had enough bullets to take out one chopper and couldn't be reloaded? Not to mention any time you fly close to a spawn point you had shoulder mounted heat seeking missles coming at you. So, this is not the first time this situation has been in a Battlefield game.

oh that's a huge skill - wait till you lock some pilot's ass, fire and forget it.

Lets take a look at the seawiz on the carriers. The gatling gun is straightforward just like the AA guns in 42 were. The problem arises with the pilots. They simply can't play the same way they did before. Good players before the patch were flukes. Anybody could be a gunner and anybody that understood the pitch to missile distance were decent. Most pilots I've seen don't understand how to use their environment and terrain. Attack helis will have to think like attack helis should function. Before they were in the open like hovering birds without any real threats. Now they do. Boohoo learn to compensate.

Finally someone who knows the correct name for the gun on the carrier.. Your in the Navy ? Maybe?

Hey the BFV AA gun was pretty effective but you still had to aim, and I still had no problems killing it. Look at it this way no one hardly ever uses the line backers main gun on a helicopter or plane. The main gun is used more on the ground then it is on air targets. Then again no one ever needed to.... and now they really don't need to.

Are you suggesting that having 'untouchable' players is good for a competative game?

I see the sentiment here is about the same as mine. I have spent about half my play time in the cockpit of Jets. The J-10 has always been a tough opponent. Its turn rate is faster than any other plane, and it is also slightly faster in most combat situations. In fact, it was almost impossible to shoot down a J-10 with a missile before. I became rather proficent at using Guns to take them out because the missiles were so undependable.
Now, its more like taking a picture of them... just point and shoot.
My ONLY complaint before was the missiles tendancy to track to a friendly target 50% of the time when you had a solid lock on an enemy. Now, I cant fly over land without getting a missile up my tail pipe.
I just left one of my favorite maps. (Wake Island) because I was shot down 5 out of 5 times by the SAME AA emplacement BEFORE I could kill it. The ONLY way that could happen, is if he hit me 2 out of 2 shots EVERY time. 'nuff said in THAT area.
I would REALLY like EA to take the missiles and Aircraft hitpoints back to what they were before, only with less tendancy to hit friendlies. Hell, I honestly wouldn't mind I guess if they left the hit points as they are now, just give the missiles a CHANCE to miss once in a while.

I would like to ask pilots this:

Are AA sites suppose to be so complex that only skilled players can use it? Just like the TOW, .50 caliber MGs, and tanks, anyone should be able to use these weapon systems effectively regardless of skill. These weapons are supposed to be and is simple to use, tell me what has to be added into the process of scanning-locking-firing.

The AA sites still have the same location and same process. The only difference is the missile which you, the pilot, is also blessed with. In fact, the range of these SAM sites and damage of their missiles are reduced. Any good or skilled pilots should be able to take out these sites.

Don't tell me you guys are skilled in flying, yet unable to take extra measures of precaution to avoid SAM fire. Don't tell me you guys are aircraft veterans when many of you ***** than adapt. Don't tell me you guys are professionals when you no longer can fly like professionals anymore.

You can still fly with ease and effectiveness. You can still destroy these sites without much danger. You can still get high scores than any player in the server. You can still dogfight with skill, with attention being more focused on interception. You can still dominate the whole round. What you can't do though, is ***** and whine hoping it'll make you better. What you can't do though, is create excuses to cover your flaw and inflexible flying skills.

If you no longer can fly well as you did before, you are no longer a good pilot regardless of your history and stats, but now part of the average pilots and those who could not tolerate and adapt to this change. It's time to change your flying strategy and doctrine. You can say were you a good pilot before, but no longer now; BF2 has changed for us.

Stating that AA sites should be for "skilled users" only is pathetic. I don't see tank users ranting TOW sites should be fore "skilled users." Nor do I see helicopter pilots imploring .50 caliber MGs should be harder to use. I don't see how AA should be more complex.

AA in 1.2 doensn't take skills because the angle is totaly (*&(*& up

in 1.12 and prevuois weapons you hat to aim in front of the plane and calculate what his next move would be and then shoot.

now it's only lock, wait for the flares and shoot.
                                every dumass can do that.
