While countless scrubs (yes, scrubs) like usapatriot bemoan the loss of air invunerability, I've been seeing some truely inspired pilots doing just fine in the air. Ture, they aren't getting the huge scores they used to and yes, they get shot down, but no one complains when the best ground pounders around get taken out.

I'm not a great pilot (I don't like mouse flying and still haven't bothered to pick up a joystick), but I was able to survive in the air just fine by using my head and thinking about the dynamics of modern air combat.

I'm now at the point of firmly believing that anyone who's whining about the improved AA is actually quite useless and has no right to gripe.

Suck it up and adapt or fade away.
true. Finally the measurment of pilot is no longer the price of his/her joystick. Now day, you need to fly like a real pilot, aware of your surroundings.

Also, radar in real life have a narrow scan angle forward, so it's not like DC's radar.

However, I do think BF2 needs an AWAC, maybe as a commander function?

hell no they screwed up all the missles i shot down 3 good players today, which before the patch were untouchable, and the AA is way overpowered and the missles on the cobra reduced sucks ass as well.

    1.2 sucks.
Also, if you say that you shot down three good pilots, then they aren't good pilots in 1.2. They just can't adapt. Or better, maybe they are no longer invincible (and tell me you got a problem with that).

I am very good with ground weapons, and I often get scores like 17-1 just by going infantry, but I won't bitch and moan when someone killed me (even if he just bought the game), nor would he moan about his pistol being overpowered because he actually killed me.

BTW: I don't use AA that often, I am primarily a pilot

Naw, I don't think it's just to say that just because someone got shot down that they aren't a good pilot. They just got shot down.

No one complains when the best ground troops get tagged. It's expected.

Last night I was playing on Dragon Valley. I got into some mobile AA and was providing my team with a proper anti-air umbrella. One partincular pilot managed to completely amaze me. He's dive in, hit his targets, and go bullistic to get the hell outta there before I could nail him. He did this repeatedly. I got tone on him and fired a couple times, only to have him release flares and skate away. Even more impressive, I saw him using pre-emptive flare drops to cover his inital dive a couple times. By the time they'd cleared, he was gone. Very shlick.

I finally managed to swat him outta the sky. I sent a chat message saying that his flying was impressive. He said thanks and commented on how happy he was to have a challange now.

      That is a real pilot.

Oh yeah... the Blackhawk ain't dead either.
I'm doing just fine with that, thanks.
Now I just feel like I've really gotta keep it tight. No more room for screwups and sloppy flying. It's clentched fist (and orifaces) all the way.

I do think it's a shame that they chose to reduce it's gun's effectivness rather than ramp up those of the Sky Cow, but my gunners still get kills. More importantly, I still get my boys where they need ta go.

Its not that hard to survive in the air for any good airplane pilot. I'd say its a little more difficult for us chopper pilots. Talk about something requiring skill and awareness of environment.... When flying the plane you can get 300m away from the AA very quickly, the helicopter doesn't have the alititude advantage but instead is forced to find shelter behind trees, buildings, etc (something dangerous). Even the best of us get tagged by AA trees.

I'm not bitching, I like the care you have to take when flying now. Its fun weaving through the trees to escape AA lock. The only thing I don't like is that if you are engaged by one AA and are taking him out, but there is an AA at the next flag on you too... you are absolutely dead meat, you have no chance if you are engaged by 2 AA's. Also, I seem to get hit with all AA's when flares are not available. I have not yet found an evasive maneuver that will dodge the missiles. With 100% hit effectiveness its kinda gay. I wouldn't mind 70-80%

If you use the TRANSPORT chopper like a TRANSPORT, stay way above the action and out of harms way, then let your guy chute down to where they want to go, you wont have to worry....if you fly low in a tranport to try to kill any and everything you can, your going to die, use the vehicle as it was meant to be used

It just turned Mashtuur into another Karkand thats all. Mashtuur was all about looking out for the BH if you were MEC. That was like the scenario... Now its all just another geigh foot fight.

Yeah but most people love Karkand for it being chopper free and CQB....

I like the new AA it gives people on the ground a chance. It also makes dogfights quicker and less time consuming like they were in BF1942. I am also glad they evened up the helicopters a little bit...that was a big oversight from day 1.

These pilots are really annoying me now. I mean for gods sake, ground pounders don;t cry if they get shot in the back... how do you think that would work out. Infact I'm gonna make a topic now entitled.

"BF2 1.2 sucks, if someone shoots you you die!?!?"

Last time I checked blackhawks aren't used for infantry to parachute off from. Most them them land to unload. They use the big ass planes to chute down. I love flying planes and yea it's alot mroe challenging now than before. I like it. I get shot down more from other planes than AA gotta find some manuevers to get behind planes while they chasing me and I'll be set.

The personal firearms are all point and click, mounted MG's are point and click, HJ8/TOW missiles are point and click, tanks are point and click, Sniper rifles are point and click, APC's are point and click, etc, etc. Are you saying none of those require any skill?

Many pilots simply haven't adapted to the new, more powerful AA. It's just as it should be. Modern AA is usually more dangerous to combat aircraft than other combat aircraft. Just look at Vietnam, for example.

Ermmm does your sniper rifle go beep beep beep and then lock onto someone's head?
