Re: AT not used on armor

If I'm an insurgent playing in SF forces maps is that ok? Because that's what they do in real life and it works great for them.

Works great IRL and in game. Besides, it is easy to dodge.

    What's next? Don't lay C4 traps because it's not a fair fight?

I see the AT Rockets being used against infantry because for the most part, the AT primary weapons lack any and all take down power... I know some people praise the DAO-12 shotgun, but when i am that close i knife people...

If EA/Dice didn't want the AT rocket used against infantry they should have given the AT kit better primary weapons...

People in these games just don't play in a team manner. They will always look for the easiest way to get a solo kill, because working as a team is harder work.. It is sad, but appears to be true. Lord knows i would love teamwork in servers, but every game starts with people running off in their own direction... I have tried to team up with people and terrible things happen, such as a noob pilot killing us all, or 1 AT rocket taking out a jeep full of infantry basicly makes group transport of troops a no go.. Best to stay out of large groups to avoid mass killings...

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but in the INTRO video EA sets it so two rockets are used against infantry. Also These rockets are used everyday on infantry in Iraq. Think about it. Almost every squad has a TOW. Every humvee does as far as I know. And we KNOW for fact that Iraq has no vehicles for the US to attack. So therefore we can conclue 100% of rockets that the US army uses in Iraq and afghanistan are used on infantry. I have a bunch of videos where they fire TOW at insurgent snipers or fighters.

Re: AT not used on armor

Here is the deal. The legit arguement about the GL was that you could easily kill someone without having to actually HIT THEM, but the ground around them. To kill a healthy target with an AT round, you have to hit their body. That is no different, skill-wise, than shooting off a quick burst into their body at close range. Either way, you have to aim at them to kill them. For this reason, the AT rocket is not a noobtube and the fact that the AT rocket is meant for armor does not mean it should not be effective on infantry. Tanks are made to shoot, and primarily to shoot other vehicles, so should they have their ability to run people over removed?

Point is, if you got owned up by an AT round point blank range, the same guy could have owned you with a gun just as easily or even a knife for christ sakes. If you are complaining about the AT rocket being used at any decent range whatsoever... you really need to come to grips with your skill and knowledge of the game, however painful that may be to you.

I play AT an awful lot. Have I killed someone with the AT rocket at close range? Yes I have..

Why? Because I ran round the corner, and had the launcher out, and met an enemy. Needed to kill him, so just fired and hoped. Sometimes it works, most time it doesnt :)

As for snipers...if you dont see a rocket coming at you from across the map, maybe you should change class!

The DAO rocks for killing the enemy, and is much more successful at it, than the AT rocket.

Either way, I play for fun...and thats what I have..

In real life you have anti-personnel, anti-air (e.g. Stingers) and anti-tank rockets. Seeing as they've only put one all-round shoulder-launched rocket type in the game, one could argue that it is intended for both armoured vehicles, air units and infantry.

The whole "intended for" and "unrealistic" arguments are often pointless anyway - after all this is a game! Not only that, but it's a war - and in a war I'd take out the enemy any way I'd find efficient.

The only one showing a lack of skill is the target who can't dodge the missile (i.e. you).

              Your comments are amusing! :)
Using it on infantry doesn't say a thing about your skill vs. armor. And even if it did, it would only indicate that you're skilled at taking down armour; if you can take down a 1pixel-sized infantry lying in the outskirts of the fog, I'm sure you'd be able to hit a tank too.

LOL! Your comparison could make sense if it wasn't for the fact that the APC is a 100x bigger target..

Because most of the time it's an accident. As said a number of times previously they probably just didn't have time to switch to their primary weapon. Therefore some poor infantry guy (usually equipped with GP-30, and currently in the process of reloading) gets this big rocket shoved up his belly.

You have so many disadvantages when running as AT. I still cannot believe this rant thread even exists.

Its been a while since i played much as AT, because i'e been working toward my expert medic hour requirement, but I will freely admit, i use my AT launcher as my primary weapon, even in CQB, and switch to the Dao after my rocket is off. I know a lot of other AT players do too. The rocket is very effective if you are pretty good with it, but it is by no means a skillless weapon.

I think one thing has been totaly over looked in this thread and thats the crappy hit detection of the AT missles. Any experienced AT player will know that there are times when the AT missle will go straight through infantry, tanks, apc, personal tranport vehicals, basically everything. I just honestly cant see people using AT missles like the noob tube proberly 1 in 10 are going to go straight through the target and result in your death because of it.

You do not know what you are talking about. I just came out of a match where I was taking aim at an APC and it went arounf the corner but from the same corner surfaced a guy with a PKM and started shooting at me. I fired my missile at him. What could I do? Shoot him with my DAO at 150m? Don't be stupid! Shooting people with AT missile is not a problem cause 50% of the time infantry will see your missile and move. Since AT projectile has splash damage 13 cm wide no one gets killed but you scare the guy and that gives you a few seconds to get the flock out of there...

Fact that you got killed by a AT missile because you weren't looking in the right direction is your problem. Often you can shoot the AT guy as the missile flies and it will probably miss you.

Grenade launcher was a problem because it had a defect om simulation. It allows you to shoot a guy from a distance of 30 cm and live. Try doing that with a AT missile? You will die. So I do not see that AT missile has a defect.

I shoot proning spec ops in the face with my Eryx all the time. If they can't hit the spacebar quick enough and strafe then it's his fault that they get hit by this 20km/h snail. Of course tanks/APCs are priority 1 to counter, but sometimes I just have the urge to get rid of my ammo in other ways too.

I don't have any other option to take out people at ranges further than 40m when playing as anti tank. Especially not a sneaky little proning G36 specbastid who is aiming at my head.... I will try to make as short of a process as possible
You have more than enough time to evade an AT coming at you but I guess most people really enjoy the incoming AT Missile on their screen. Is there a smilie painted on it's front? I agree it is sometimes very fascinating to study it's flight path while it's coming at you.

I also don't consider GP30 or similar "noobtube2 as skillless in combat situations. I just don't like the cheap hop'n'nade at your feet tactics being (ab)used. But I've also countered those many times by jumping up myself and emptying a full DAO-12 clip on his body.

C'mon- hey, in BF you push the limits of the game; and if it's realistic that you can kill infantry with an ANTI-TANK missile, then hey- you can, can't you?

While you're saying it's very noob and easy to kill people with rockets- consider that it's also very easy to kill people with the blackhawk minigun, a blast from an armoured vehicle, any form of attack from an aircraft (although it's actually a little bit tricky to kill infantry with the helo's 'sidewinder' missiles).

While you say it is noob- then do something un-noob and do something about it!

Anti-Tank Missles like the AT4 are not meant as anti personel, they are meant to take out vehicles, weak structures, and armor. Anyone who uses it against infantry isnt being very realistic. Unfortunatly this is an option left in the game. If it will become an anti personel missile then I dont see why they shouldnt make it harder to nail people with, often someone who is prone and occupide with something else, sees a rocket intime, but simply jumping doesnt save your life. Rockets also cause death unhealable by medic which is frustrating. By all means it is a frustrating experience to be pwned by a rocket and it doesnt take much skill because the rounds can be moved if you try and run. It is a guided missile remember. Until BF2 and EA make it harder I dont expect to see a decline in this, but it is unfortunatly a strong tactic. I personally wont use it, but I am practicing avoiding these attacks.
