Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore

Those of you who make planes sound "invincible" are sadly mistaken. And i DO "get it". I've been flying for a while and i seen planes go down from the stupidest things. Planes are only "invincible" when the pilot is skilled. Do you have a problem with someone being so good that you can't kill him? I've seen people complain about this guy lingeringlead who is "invincible" while on foot and they all think he cheats (i'm talking 8-1 ratio in one game). No... he's just good at shooting and moving on foot. Tanks are "invincible" if you have a good driver and some supply boxes. Blackhawks are "invincible" if you have a skilled pilot, good gunners, and some engineers. What's similar here? If you have skills, you're harder to kill. What's wrong with that?

Now some of you want a weapon requiring less "skill" to be able to take down a plane. My question is, WHY? I took all those hours practicing on singleplayer just to get good at flying plane and chopper and now you want to just point and click and be able to shoot me down? That would be ruining the game for a lot of people who fly.

    Some interesting observations:
1: MOST planes die from crashing into things (not deliberately ramming either). Especially true for new pilots.
2: Only when there's a skilled pilot around (on one side) do people on the ground notice and complain. Most of the time the planes in Oman or Wake AREN'T EVEN NOTICED.
3: If the AAs are so ineffective, why do people keep using them? They can be doing something helpf to their team like... capturing flags? Note that planes can't capture flags. A great way to get rid of enemy planes is to capture their airfield!

If you really need to "tweak" the air, my vote is to make it HARDER to fly. Make the plane have to land to rearm (have to make runways bigger though) and make the planes harder to aim (no brackets around stingers or jeeps).

im not against planes but as said earlier the food chain was planes, chopas, tanks, infantry now the infantry having a rocket(hand held sams) would make it a rough cirlcle or at least replace sams with flak cannons like poe!that actually work ,in real life yes planes/helos are hard to hit but there not strong

We all agree a good pilot can dominate the whole score and game!

I think the problem is more a case of poor sportsmanship on the part of the pilots.

Too many pilots yes are good because thats all they ever do, herein lies the problem.

If you spend all your time wohring the plane then of course your going to get good at it. But heres a idea why don't you try and get good at a class you've not played much before like medic or support etc and give someone else a go in the plane for a change.

Its the fact pilots who are good whore the planes and spoil it for everyone else thats the problem.

Becoming a great pilot isn't difficult when you don't have any threats against you.

Or a physics engine designed for a preschooler.

I think that's the problem, even though the people who are usually phenomenal at something spend a lot of time practicing at it...there's not a lot of time required to master anything in BF2. You can get as good as you're going to get at anything with 10 minutes or less of practicing with it. Then it's up to the random deviation of the game to decide the fate of the masses, leaving no real awe at someone that's exceptionally good at something, because it no longer is difficult to acheive said status. If this trend continues, we're going to have the game include a new part to the interface: the dice! They roll, and if you roll a higher number than your opponent, you actually hit them.

i hope you are exaggerating there. maybe you're talking about "mastering" the C4 buggy or something. it took me many many hours to master the helicopter (hardest vehicle) and i still lose at dogfights sometimes. to get really good at flying takes hundreds of hours. have you seen the in game video made by Planewhore (yes that's his actual handle)?? He can kill an APC 80% of the time with one bomb from the fighter. You're saying that takes 10 minutes to learn?

To those of you who said there are no threats, i disagree. there are a LOT of trees, cranes, tall buildings, stupid antenna poles next to the runway, etc to avoid crashing into. It is VERY hard to repair a damaged jet compared to a chopper, unless you actually land it. Of course it's been mentioned that there are other pilots gunning for you. There's always the threat of friendly AA hitting you by mistake, or you accidentally TKing someone. The threat from the ground isn't very big, true. but flying a plane is not quite as cushy as you make it sound. just because you don't get killed as often in a plane doesn't mean it's not challenging.

oh yea, i do take turns. the thing is, the good pilots (especially for helicopter) stay up a lot longer than new pilots. so if everyone "takes turns" the good pilots are gonna be flying 90% of the time because they don't crash into a tree 40 seconds after takeoff.

Are you even aware of how hilarious that sounds? When the enemy comes in somewhere fourth or fifth on the thread list behind vegetation, static man made objects, friendly SAMs and whatnot something clearly is wrong.
All a pilot has to learn is avoid static objects and he´s got all chances to end the game with a >10:1 K/D without breaking a sweat.
A mediocore pilot that has "mastered the art of avoiding static objects" only has to fear an enemy pilot, on a 64 player map that´s max. 2 of 32 enemies he has to fear, with a huge chance of them being some TKing kiddies, and for that the enemy plane even has to get into the air before being trashed.

That is what´s totally different about planes to every other vehicle/kit, there is always something you can do about tanks or helis (spawning with new kit, using other vehicles against then etc.). With planes you got two options:
-be lucky and get into a plane (chances are very slim)
-count on "incredible threat" of the "LOT of trees, cranes, tall buildings, stupid antenna poles next to the runway" to bring down the enemy plane... in vain if the pilot isn´t a total moron.

I mean, wow, just because I focus on what I'm doing and don't give a rat's rear orifice about who's making the big kills in the planes, it doesn't give me a right to enjoy playing the game does it?

I really must remember to be all worried about what other people are doing and let that annoy me to the point of destroying and entertaining pastime!

Thank you oh so much for setting me straight in that matter! Without this vital post, I might have been tempted to continue enjoying the hella outta BF2.
damn man you are so anal, poster number one is so correct in his post it hurts, this game is becoming stale just like the dominating helo's of BFV did, and like BFV you had a few people that would swear blind that the game was ok, but it wasnt and was no where near as good as bf1942, lets be honest BF2 is just a spam a thon, m203 spam, helo spam, tank spammers left right and centre, arty spam, plane spam, it's cheesie in that respect and everything in the game feels so dumbed down to that games that came before it, and when a game is like that it doesnt take long for people to get bored with it

anyways, where in his post did he say you couldnt have fun, your fun?
he was merly stating what alot of people know already and i agree with him.

From your first post at the top of this page, its clear that you still don't understand what a lot of people here are trying to achieve. We don't want an all superior weapon that can kill a jet in a fire-and-forget sort of way, we just want a realistic counter. Now as I have said perviously there was another topic where people discussed alternatives. For example a straight-line proximity missile system like that of Desert Combat is one idea, that gave the person on the ground some chance and left the skill of the pilot to try to avoid it, and the skill of the gunner to try and predict the path of the plane. And if the plane got hit it would have to land to get fixed (thats pretty damn balanced and a good measure of skill no?).

Its not clear that you understand what planes and BHs etc are. They are a serious skill modifyer. Basically someone with little skill or new to the game has a plane and it doesn't matter if they are good at dogfighting or whatever, they still have a craft that can only be shot down by his own sides AA or by them crashing. Top this off with having the ability to take out ANY vehicle and number of troops on each fly past and you have a weapon that everyone wants to use. Now if you get someone that is even slightly competent in the pilot seat then you have normal skill plus the uncounterable weapon and you have the ability to carpet bomb and repeat all match (which is what people are sick of).

Its clear by your own quote above that you admit that the only counter is friendly AA and you crashing, but from an objective point of view is that good enough? Why can't a solution be for skill based AA (as mentioned above) or having to land to re-arm? Thats balanced and realistic.

We live in a capitalist, unforgiving, competitive world, nothing is balanced. And it will NEVER be balanced.

You think EA will just make it so that you ll have at least 50% of shooting down a JSF jet with a crappy AA? You guys have any idea what an actually F-35B is? Forget about the stinger rockets, you can't even shoot them down with the 25 year old F-15s.

If you are looking for a balanced game play where everyone uses a rifle and equality comes first instead of the epiction of war, then this game isn't for you. And trust me by complaining about these things you cause arguments, get angry yourself, make the other guys angry, this results in the entire BF2 community become hostile towards each other when playing and there you have the kick votes, admin abuse, bans, kicks, etc.

                            My 2 cents...
I would be happy if they had to land to get new bombs and fuel - hows that for epiction of war... That way they wouldnt be so invincible and actually make the game less fun. These people talking about things they dont like is how the real world works - people complain at unfairness - live with it.

Personally I wouldnt miss jets if they were completely removed, and the arty had longer chargetime. (Who shoots artillery within 100 meters of friendlys anyway) - it wouldnt miss out on the battle feeling just cause it got longer chargetime) Jets and artilleryspamming just disrupt the gameflow in my oppinion.

Its everyones right to point out things they dont like - dont ever stop it!.

Read the title of this post. People like Futile, WarGimp, Moke & Marsanello just don't get it do they? Whether or not you agree with the whining is not germaine to this at all. The fact is that this version of BF is seriously flawed and is causing people to leave and/or become disenchanted with the game. Air power is wayyyyyy over powered... period! No discussion about it. There is simply no way to bring down jets... period! Get it?? No way. And don't give me that tired old chit about how you brought one down just the other day with AA.... that's total bull. Farks gets it right and is totally on point with "Becoming a great pilot isn't difficult when you don't have any threats against you."

This discussion is a joke. There is no denying the FACTS that the game is very unbalanced and, for anyone who is frustrated at this, it is something that is driving many people away.
