I like battlefield 2 just fine. You're probably not playing on the right server, or with the right people.

      Yeah thats a good contribution.

How about you solve this balance issues by telling us all what server has no planes and what other 63 people like an even fight.

Aye. Yeah, playing with the right people is a big factor.

BF2 has some shortfalls, but atleast they are workin on it. The AA definatly needs tweaking, we know that. There are some annoyances and odd design desissions (Still can't figure out why they don't think a min range on a GL is a good idea), but the bottom line is that it's still a heck of a lot of FUN to play... for me anyway.

If it's not FUN for you, don't play!
        Simple really.
Life's too fuggin short to be wasting it on things you don't enjoy... we're all do too much o that anyway.

          how about winning a combat...
I know...aircrafts are overpowered..but they cannot see through object....
full time sitting on an aircraft couldn't make many help in capturing the check point.

Think before you say the aircrafts are overpowered...and causing no fun
do they have power to kill you if you are smart enough to hide around and avoid them?
Those aircraft are avoidable and avoiding them do not harm on defensing and also capturing.

Just agree they are overpowered to KILL...and NO more!!!
Aircrafts are overpowered to KILL, but infantry are overpowered to avoid the aircraft.

Only the poeple who like to expose himself to any kind of enemies' fire would say it cause no fun, because their foolish act on not avoiding aircraft cause them to be frequently killed by the "crafts".

Overpowered aircraft only cause the people of the above quiting BF2.
How about spawn-killing Tanks? when you are re-spawn, it kill you right-a-way. Causing real no fun because the only hope you survive is someone taking off the tank, or you are not re-spawn in front of the "spawn point camping" tank.

          Be smart people!

Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore

I must admit. It's been quite a while since I played, approaching the three week mark.

While the Airpower was a part of it. (I couldnt fly, thought I'll learn to fly, learnt to fly fairly well in single player, found it was all for naught when you're required to line up and tk for an aircraft anyway.)

I was sick of the repetitiveness of it to be honest. There's only so much you can do, especially when the Teamwork aspect is taken away (I've tried unsuccessfully for a long time on AU Publics.).

Factor that with I added a few titles to my collection, got a steering wheel for NFS:MW, been playing heaps of black and white 2 because it's more relaxing than running around FPS style like I've done for so long. (Quake World player initially). Maybe I'm too old for it, Maybe it's too old for me, either way, I feel i've bled it dry, and the BF2 icons don't scream click me as loud as others do. Which I think is inevitable. People WILL stop playing, yes there'll still be full servers you can find when you want them, as I dare say there probably is for BFV and BF1942, and even QuakeWorld probably still sees some action.

Ultimately no amount of balance fixing is going to fix the curse of boredom, there's only so much variety that can be added into a game. And I think you're a foolish gamer if you limit the games you play to any one title, or even any one genre.

There'll be many more games to come that people get just as excited about, and then feel let down (Black and White 2 has WAAAAY more coding issues than BF2, no one cares, it's a fun game.)

There'll be people that get bored and blame it on this or that or whatever it might be from every game. The reason it took a year for it to get to the stage where you're like "This is crap I quit" is because it's only a problem in their heads. The pool of fun is drying up for them, and they lash out and blame it on something that they think could bring the fun back.

This new patch won't bring half as many people back, because theyll be like yer Ive played it rah rah, I'm now obsessed with <Insert Latest Title>.

There is no allegiance, you're not hurting anyone by quitting, no need to sprout off about it. But there's no harm done in it either.

Bottom line, for those who don't care to read my rant (I'm sort of all over the place at the moment) People get bored, people need new things. Go do new things, go have fun. Try something relaxing like an RTS, or a different type of fast paced action like any racing game with a force feedback wheel. You'll find more fun that way because it's something new, than you will from nerfing and tweaking something old and tired.

Meh... not true in all cases.
I have a tendancy to sif though a lot of games and pick two (from different genres) that I find to have a lot of depth. Then I play the living crap outta them for a good looooooooong time. The bordem factor is there, I just don't get bored when I'm still finding new things to do and new people to do it with.

              It's kinda like sex.
A good long term relationship starts with mutual interest, then continues via acceptance and exploraion.
If everything's been tried and you're both bored, it's time to go find a new playmate/game.

Edit: When worse comes to worse, you can always go solo.

i remember POE and dc you could shoot a chopper or jet out of the sky with a tank shell if u were good enough!WTF happened to that and a chopper relies on ground support usually because its low and weak but has firepower !

Jets and helo are way to strong!turn that down and it will fix everything:rock:  :box: :wall:

Yeah and tnaks always phuqin take out choopers and planes, i mean phuq i see it nightly on the news...

Seriously are you trying to say that the a infantry man with a rifle or maybe even a AT rocket should be equal to a plane...A tank that fires a very small projectile compared to bomb and moves at a fraction of the speed of a jet should be equal to a jet???????

See having that will only **** off the people taht are looking for realisim...and not having ****es off the people that cant figure out to run and hide when they here a jet, or tank coming down the road...its really not that hard...Here is a hint, when you see a tank, or here a jet off in the distance and dont see it on your mini map (holy puq i know use that little thing) go HIDE....that simple...If you real feeling real helpful sneak around and spot the SOB for someone else in your team to spot...

I will admit hearing a plane in any vehicle is somewhat impossible....But I really dont see a major overall problem with the jets, I mean sure once in awhile you get some fly boy that straight up owns everything...and yes I will admit it pi$$es you right off..but it doesnt really happen that often....

                    2. It will make planes more vulnerable, slower, less deadly force.

                    3. It will make the game and planes more realistic.
Actually I disagree with this on the simple fact that a plane or a chopper on the ground means instant death. Anybody flying in the area? Point the a plane at either and get an instant kill since flares or evasive manuevering are out of the question. Think of all the kills these guys get today when they camp the airfields and just wait for someone to get in an air vehicle. Tone, lock, death. Also, it would definitely encourage the other side to camp the airfield to wait for planes and choppers to land.

I think the chopper is fine as is. They have to hover or land on a pad. They are extremely vulnerable, but they can move or drop flares if necessary.

Fix the planes by making them make more passes over the runway to rearm and repair. It will slow them down.

The fact is that it is posible for some one to own just about everything with skill. If you want realism be rid of this dive bombing and maybe force players to put that skill into high alt. bombing at high speeds because currently i find it annoying that a plane can come almost to a stop to gun down a single inf men and than go like a cartoon character back into the sky in a second or two zip zip up up and away. But hey the map design and gameplay design promotes all that BS so we just have to wait for a mod to do things right.

I actually enjoy the fact that the planes and helicopters are so strong. The fact that there is something that is an ass to get down and is extremely deadly in the hands of an exellent pilot gives a certain 'fear' level to the game. I'm a grunt at heart, and I have no complaints about the strength of neither of these things. My only complaint is the bunny hopping and diving. You shouldnt be able to shoot while going prone and while jumping. It totally ruins infantry combat in close quarters in the very end. Jump, hold down shoot button, wait.

And half the time, 50% or more of their view is obstructed. Same with the mounted machine guns and TOWs. You just cant see much so you have to sit there and hope something might fly by, at a slow enough speed, and hover...basically offering you their rear end. It's not gonna happen too often.

Whatever, and that's almost all there is to say about peoples opinions...BUT, today playing on, speaking of Wargimp, the R2 server, I was flying in Clean Sweep, bombing the hell out of them, even received another Good Conduct Medal (and funny enough, got my first TK in the same run ) Got the gold, 45+ kills, and guess what...our team lost. So no, air power does NOT keep you from winning, taking flags, nothing, you just have to be smarter than the average bear.

I had to comment on this. RTSs were the source of more pain and agony than any other online game, at least for me. I used to play C&C, Warcraft, SW Galactic Battleground, Starcraft, Rise of Nations and AOE/M. Playing against similar skilled players was fun. However, you never knew who you might end up playing. It frequently turned into a who has memorized the correct sequence of villagers/resources gatherers/builders/army to rush the other side. I became good, but disliked the pattern and the lack of variety.

With BF2, I have found tons of variety in learning how to get skilled with each of the kits (commander too) and vehicles and develop multiple map strategies. I like going after medals, ribbons and badges (not to the exclusion of teamwork and teamplay). Rank doesn't interest me since 2nd Lt. is a lifetime away. Most everytime I play, I find that I have to develop different skills to counter some tactic I have seen or experienced. After an embarrassing number of hours, I can still find ways to keep it fun and fresh. I don't feel like I am helpless against anyone. I don't have the greatest stats since I went through learning curves in all the kits, armor, then planes and now choppers. If I run into a plane/chopper/tank whore or a clan or squad that makes things too painful, I find another server.

The thing that made the most difference is joining a gaming club. Playing with the same set of people on a well-managed and fair server changed everything compared to playing on random servers with random squad/team play. We aren't the greatest and frequently lose, but we always have fun playing and getting to know each other.

Thats the point I was trying to make. You play any one style long enough, you'll start expecting more and more form the new titles, and it won't deliver.

I will end up playing BF2 again one day for sure, at the moment, I'm loving some of the new titles. Also, working extremely long hours as I am at the moment, I don't feel like cursing the screen when I get home, I want a relaxing game that doesn't mean death if I remove the hands from the keyboard for a moment.

I think another downfall of BF2 is it's total lack of singleplayer. I know it's designed soley for Multiplay, but with that in mind, bf2 almost COULD be a game that you could stop for a minute and sip your beer and light a smoke in the right environment. Bit of story somewhere wouldnt hurt either.

A story twists, turns and keeps you awaiting the next piece. A battle is always just a battle.

I think thats more what Im satisfying at the moment than anything, playing a game with something to keep me going, something other than when the numbers hit the point that I hear a cool little drum sound.
