I have been considering quiting. Maybe check it out again if they ever get a patch out that doesn't make the game worse. I love this game but been noticing ALOT of bad people on servers that just ruin any kind of fun I was meant to have. It seems to be a growing trend to base rape, uncap camp, and exploit. So if I am only having fun in 2 out of 10 servers(takes awhile to find one free of skank), then I will let this game go and move on.

I used to play C&C, Warcraft, SW Galactic Battleground, Starcraft, Rise of Nations and AOE/M. Playing against similar skilled players was fun. However, you never knew who you might end up playing. It frequently turned into a who has memorized the correct sequence of villagers/resources gatherers/builders/army to rush the other side. I became good, but disliked the pattern and the lack of variety.

With BF2, I have found tons of variety in learning how to get skilled with each of the kits (commander too) and vehicles and develop multiple map strategies. I like going after medals, ribbons and badges (not to the exclusion of teamwork and teamplay). Rank doesn't interest me since 2nd Lt. is a lifetime away. Most everytime I play, I find that I have to develop different skills to counter some tactic I have seen or experienced. After an embarrassing number of hours, I can still find ways to keep it fun and fresh. I don't feel like I am helpless against anyone. I don't have the greatest stats since I went through learning curves in all the kits, armor, then planes and now choppers. If I run into a plane/chopper/tank whore or a clan or squad that makes things too painful, I find another server.

The thing that made the most difference is joining a gaming club. Playing with the same set of people on a well-managed and fair server changed everything compared to playing on random servers with random squad/team play. We aren't the greatest and frequently lose, but we always have fun playing and getting to know each other.
Duh, C&C gens/zh, WC3, RoN are all MICROMANAGEMENT, that means hotkeys, and perfect micro with stone build orders. To expect a game where you can lose units and still win like TA where macro out of a C&C title or out of SC or something that is clearly micro style is like trying to get a stone to bleed, sing, dance, and give you sweet romance while not under the influence.....
Go try TA spring ( http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ )if you really want a spamy yet WWIIish RTS in the sense that you need fodder units and the terrain will make you have to use different combos that have mixed hardcounter and such instead of soft counters that must be micromanaged to be effective.

And even BF maps in organized gameplay can come down to a science that is more dynamic than an RTS because so many players will be doing so manythings at once but the timing for many maps can come down to the same thing as that opening RTS rush but this game can be more forgiving... well that depends but anyway for the tourney double elim maps i'd figure after a while itbecomes a bit of a science because certain things like a tank moves this or that way to get from point a to b can be done.

And JuzzyDee go look at the joke that is BF2 Moderncombat. Should the devs who can barely get the gameplay down already be wasting time on a storyline and sp?

Let me get this straight. The people who are not pilots say fix the aircraft, and the pilots say the aircraft are fine. Pilots say they make or break a game? How many flags have you ever seen a jet pilot capture. Oh thats right you guys can win a game with no flag capture. I think I know how that works, doesnt it have something to do with Team work? . . . . .NOT. . . .
As you may already know I dont like the pilots in this game, the aircraft are a nesessary (sp) part of the game, I dont like the way you pilots use them. I have been saying since before patch 1.03 they should have to land and that the pilots should have their own class so you can tell who the best pilot is and so you cant get the other badges by being a pilot.
Hmmmm, so ever see what a stinger does. A stinger can lock on a target and if it misses it can do a 180 degree turn and come back and take down a target! Almost any surface to air missle can, except the ones in this game.
Ill tell you what, if you think im wrong or if you think any of us are wrong just try playing Mashtur city map on the MEC team. Woops I forgot your a pilot, that means that you will hide out all map long. Put your little soldier behind a building on the edge of town, laying down of course. At least untill we get to another map with aircraft. I know you will get one even if you have to take 2 or 3 TKs for the Team to do it. . . . . .Red

I pilot here and there, and I say fix the aircraft. It's not challenging at all.

A golden rule in game design:
NEVER listen to the pilots when discussing balancing issues!

Most of them would never admit that they're overpowered. Especially in the Battlefield series - one of their classic aguments is "Hey I cannot cap flags so I cannot be overpowered, dude!"

@Wreck: You're an exception that proves the rule

I always find it amusing and very frustrating how to be a good tanker takes more skill than a good pilot.. as everything on the map can kill a tank, but in a chopper you can just fly away or fly high.

This isn't really true. It takes a different kind of skill to make different assets useful on the field.

I'm not a great pilot... and I don't have a joystick (if I did, I'd practice). I'm a perty good attack chopper pilot. I really enjoy flying Blackhawks (no, not because they are over powered, but because when use right they are the most teamwork intensive asset in the game). I'm an alright tanker. Oh, and I'm a fairly insane driver (be warned!).

Anyway... Choppers are harder to keep in the air than you might think. Especially attack choppers against a good team. They have to worry about planes, tanks, APCs, other choppers, AA, .50 cals, and skilled ATs. That's a lot of stuff that can blow 'em away. They also tend to be fairly exposed as the maps don't allow for much terran cover.

When you're tanking, atleast you are on the ground and can use building and stuff for cover. Tanks should also be supported. I see too many people thinking they can solo tank and do well. Try playing as an engi and get a buddy to do the same. Roll together and you'll last a lot longer.

That's quite possibly the most biased "golden" rule I've ever heard.

None, however I've hundreds of flag defences as a pilot and I'm sure many others have the same.To win convincingly, defending is just as critical as attack. Also don't forget the tanks and helos raping ground troops, a good pilot will target and remove the threat.
Planes aren't overpowered, they are meant to be at the top of the food chain, but they are too easy to fly and static anti aircraft missiles are not as reliable as they could be.
I'd be happy if EA made the planes more difficult to fly and increase their vulnerability to ground fire, but alongside I'd like to see the free look view system improved, so joystick HAT switches can be programmed in game. Even remove some or all of the free fall bombs. make them laser guided from the ground and add an "Airstrike required" command. Increasing interaction with ground troops would add a little more depth to the game for pilots and infantry alike.
Unfortunately if these ideas where implemented, non flyers who forget to look up occasionally, would still whinge because they failed to read the previews, reviews and the box before they bought the game and didn't realise this is an all arms battlefield game which contains big nasty hunks of metal which spit fire, rather than only flesh vs flesh.
After all that, I've not played vanilla BF2 since SF was released, I'm having too much fun skulking around rooftops with my AK101.

Whatever, and that's almost all there is to say about peoples opinions...BUT, today playing on, speaking of Wargimp, the R2 server, I was flying in Clean Sweep, bombing the hell out of them, even received another Good Conduct Medal (and funny enough, got my first TK in the same run ) Got the gold, 45+ kills, and guess what...our team lost. So no, air power does NOT keep you from winning, taking flags, nothing, you just have to be smarter than the average bear.
i.. never said air power keeps a team from winning, i said airpower is unbalanced AKA j-10, attack choppers that take 2 to 3 tank hits (and AA going through them or just missing all together)

airpower is a major factor in how unbalanced the game is, i'm not lying :P

J10 and all of the planes are done with one tank shot or 1 AT shot. Attack choppers can be brought down in 1 (if slightly damaged) 2 tank shots to the side. I take them down all the time, especially when the try to cap flags or hover to camp. 50 cals on jeeps make quick work of them as well.

Older OMO give me the server you play on so i can kill choppers with a .50 cal. I'm sorry, but its beyond impossible to waste a chopper with any gun mounted on any vehicle. And as to various other stuff i heard, when i can shoot a J-10 with three carrier missiles and at least 600 rounds of carrier guns, i think most people know planes have way too much armor. And the golden rule mentioned earlier is the greates idea ever, here's why- pilots are among the most cowardly players of this game. Any one who thinks they have stones by hiding behind a vehicle that can fly faster and has more armor than some ground vehicles needs to re-assess their intelligence.badly. I remember a poster who said engineers can waste any other class- true dat. I have wasted 5-6 guys at a time with just the engineer pistol. And lord knows how many kills with AT mines. Truth be told, It is near inevitable that some people cannot slug it out with others on the ground. i guess not all guys are born with nuts. Oh well. it really is still fun because there are always a few people who think they are "1337" because they can fly. I have watched thousands of "1337" people fly blackhawks right into trees because they forgot that its not a as easy as a plane. When i watch a z-10( chinese attack chopper) survive 3 FRIGGEN TANK SHOTS i realize there is a serious problem. and the part where a plane can fly over a carrier or airfield and re arm and repair, that is a horrible part of this game. I have taken advantage of it, but only because I was not aware of the huge stacking in their favor. Please if anyone of influence reads this, then make the changes to keep people playing and not making it impossible for people to down choppers and planes.
