Can't believe I have to say this, but an AT-er never knows when he'll run round a corner into an enemy or three. The useless default weapon is about as effective as throwing your boots at the opponent, so with it you'd die say 85% of the time in that situation. The DAO cuts those odds about in half. That seems like a good enough reason to me.

Sounds to me like someone took a few unwelcome DAO blasts to the face and is kinda frustrated about it.

Screw that, be like me, use the AT rocket as your primary weapon. I can actually play pretty well as AT, especially in SF with the RPG.

Simple tactic. When meeting a shotgun in close combat and got a MG in your hands, always strafe backwards away, don't get close to him. The longer the distance the harder for him to hurt you.

Wow convenient thread for me, I have just started using the DAO-12 in the last couple of days after having it unlocked for a long time. It absolutely rocks! I have no idea why I persisted with that pea-shooter MP5/PP19 (or the Chinese one, but I don't play PLA often).

On Operation Clean Sweep last night, I took a flag single handedly whilst killing four or five people very easily with the DAO. It almost felt dirty

I can't wait to see what the new AT unlock is, for me it is nearly the best class in-game. My second favorite class only beaton by engy.

Bah, the DAO12 is the only reason I even play AT in this game. In BF42 you could survive pretty good with just the bazooka but in BF2 the bazooka is not as effective and thus you need something else to protect yourself with. The default weapon is so bad it makes me cry. Ok not really, but it makes my digital soldier cry.

Also, every other class can defend themselves pretty good (especially spec.ops. class.. cough cough..) why shouldn't the AT guys defend themselves? Besides, it's IMO the weakest kit in the game - but still i love it and prefer it.

not to mention that AT doesnt have grenades , any other class as them + other stuff (mines, c4 , claymore , heal kit , wrench) while the AT has just his 2 weapons , so they better be good lol.

The DAO is an excellent unlock. It deals with short range, the rocket deals with long range. Nuff said....

No need to apologise :)

You are allowed to unlock one weapon per rank gained. So, if you're new, the first rank you be promoted to will be Private First Class @ 150 global points. There is no unlock given with this rank though, so you'll have to push on to Lance Corporal @ 500 points to get the DAO-12, or whichever gun you like :)

Historically AT gunners are issued a smallish pdw type weapon. In WW2 it was the M-1 Carbine or M3A1 "Grease gun"
This is because normally they will have an assistant gunner/loader with a full-sized weapon who's secondary job is to guard the gunner while he fires and aquires his next target. The gunners weapon is purely defensive as his primary function is killing armor.
So it makes perfect sense that the AT gunner would have a small revolver-fed shotgun, it is smallish and easy to carry without encumbering the gunner too bad.

Well, first off, I'm in the top 300 or 400 (forget which) with the anti-tank machine guns, so maybe people like me who can accomplish take-downs at medium range are a minority. It is hard with the American/Chinese SMGs, but the MEC ones are pretty accurate and have lots of bullets.

The thing is, as unbelievably annoying the DAO is, I've never seen a team of DAO whores win (then again, I haven't been keeping close track) and I think it is precisley because (especially in SF) motivates AT soldiers to stay indoors so they can use their precious shotgun shells instead of taking out vehicles like their class should.

I can add my 2 cents about it, I love the thing, especailly compared to the sub guns. The other day, I saved my friend from a sniper that was shooting at him. I had stumbled behind the sniper and ran into him. Since they didn't see me any my friend was about to die, I just walked up and put the barrel to their head. one shot one kill :p

It's like this, 3/4's of the weapons people run around with in this game would never be found in the hands of any modern soldiers on the BF in the first place, its a freaking game!!!!!!

err....that's a flawed statement. The shotguns no, but the rest, most definitely.

Are you kidding, you think there are MArines running around in Iraq with JAckhammers? LMAO, My best friend is in Iraq with the 25th Cav Div. and my Bro leaves for his 2nd tounr next month with the 10th MD. As for the other Armies I will not speak, but the U.S. only operates in standards settings with the default Eng Shotgun. As for spec ops in RL using the JAckhammer, who knows thats Spec ops.
