I had a similar problem when I first bought the game and had an overclocked 6600GT installed. If your 6600GT is overclocked, reduce to stock speeds and see if the game loads.. If not, uninstall the 6600GT using Driver Cleaner, and install the Nvidia 78.01 drivers. If your card isn't overclocked, still carry out the process above to eliminate the graphics card drivers. If this doesn't work, up your AGP voltage by 1 increment.

ok
i;ve tried all of the above and it is still happening.

the con file had 800x600 so i changed my dektop to that, and it restarted my PC,

i used driver cleaner, and installed those nvidia drivers. and no luck, it restarted, i changed the AGP voltage by +.1 and again
bf2 restarts my machine,
it seems to do it after it sets the resolution to 800x600
i cant tell for sure though as all i ever see is a black screen.

oh and i'm not overclocking my CPU or graphics card.

any more ideas guys ?

If you have an LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1280x1024, add the above bold text to your BF2 shortcut properties "target box".

If not, still try it... you can change the res to what you require... ie +szx 1024 +szy 768.

no good on that either

i tried changing the target box like you did, and it still crashed on 800 x 600, 1024 and 1200

samething - greyish black screen, black screen, greyish black sceen, black screen, the restart.

i'm using a 17" CRT with flat glass

should i try changing the monitor over to something else? ther only other onr i have is a CRT to, but it's a better make, and it's curved glass.

any more ideas guys? i have really apreciated your help so far thanks alot!

lol you and me have the EXACT same system specs.. lol (xept for the mobo). dunno wut could be the prob... sometimes we overlook the easiest solutions... have you done a spyware check? spyware scan? seems silly, but that might be it. something might be eating your mem, close some progs.. etc

very possibly yea. You should always turn everything off when playing BF2 anyway, cause its a hog.

ok well i've done virus scan and spyware scans. and nothing showed up.
i turned off all virus scanners, firewalls, and spyware i even changed the monitor i was using, and no dice.

still the same issue.. every 20 or so attempts i get to the login screen, and "login" the thing hangs for a few minutes then restarts my machine the other 19 times its doesn't even get to the ea games thing.

Are you clicking in the "Play BF2 online now!" button? if so then don't
What is your desktop refresh rate? what is the max resolution your monitor will do?

Look in the file "C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\video.con

Change the resolution and refresh rate to one that you are sure that works

If this fails then delete the entore Profiles folder in the C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\Battlefield 2\ directory and try again.


Also, have you patched to version 1.12?

answering your question, my refresh is 60hertz. it'll take 1280 x 720

the video con has it set to 800 x 600

i'll report back with my happenings.

ok heres what i did and the results.

changed my desktop res to 800 x 600 (works for casll of duty 2)

deleted bf2 folder from my documents

clicked the bf2 icon, not the play online now one and..... restart!

then i opened the dvd player, and close it again, the bf2 menu comes up so i click start bf2 and..... restart.

back to the drawing board again

also i;ve jsut done a re-install,

and the same issue, it could be power related. is there anyway i can manually change how much power my pc recieves from my power supply?

=/ Sorry I've got no clue. Try doing a reformat? And make sure you're patching it to 1.12
