If your after a beginners joystick I'd go for the

    Cyborg Evo

    or

    Logitech® Force™ 3D

yeah i have one (the cyborg evo) now :) and i can tell you the difference is VAST just the ability to have a steady aim after aerobatic loops and such is immense...

not to mention i can actually dogfight with a degree of success now! wheras be4 i had never taken any other plane out succesfully be4 (made them crash was the best) now i have actually taken one out using the machine gun alone!

Mouse + Keyboard rules, most people shy away from it because after they crash the first 2 attemps they just blame it entirely on the equpiment.

If you get good at using the mouse + keyboard its more effective than a joystick imo.

if you want any proff I can show you

There is some good stuff in here! I even got a laugh, as well as learning - very nice. Its a shame that we're all so spread out, i reckon that it would be one hell of a match were all the 'good'* pilots able to take each other on!

*I put good in inverted commas because it is the opinion of those who make the claims about their own skills, and as such there is obviously differing levels of 'good'

Do you suggest flying with a joystick or keyboard/mouse?

you guys over think it too much just fly use the flairs when nessecary and if you think someone is after you dont fly in a straight line dont forget to use after burner to get some speed to get away look for convoys to bomb thats UBER kills and when your on another guy and he doesnt know it gun kill him switch to bombs because you wont give yourself away with a missle lock AND NEVER RAM. thats my advice im a good pilot mind you i average about 25 kills per death in the jet but my overall K/D ratio is a little over 3/1 (formatting my joystick and never let your dad play chances are hes a retard like mine and flies off the map and dies)

i have been using mouse and keyboard but its clear to see when getting into dogfights that i cannot compete. is there any tips for sticking with a mouse and keyboard or do i "have" to make the upgrade? and if so what makes of joystick are reccomended?
i bought a joystick and then immediately went back to keyboard, i just didnt find it as good, might be better for some though

Thats called an immelmen manuver named after the guy who invented it in WW1.

Re: Joysticks... Dont ever buy a cordless joystick. They preserve battery life by going into sleep mode after a short period and it can take a few seconds to wake em up - or just long enough to run a jet off the end of a carrier into the drink. The Logitech I had didnt have any settings for controlling how long to keep it active. I must have hurled it through the window half a dozen times before getting a corded one because although it constantly ****ed me off, I never remembered it did that when I was in a hurry to get off the ground.

Re: Tips for Flying/Killing/Surviving in Jets.

i can only play bf2 when i'm at my dads house (that is where the good computer is) so that means i can only play once a week.

well when i go over there, i get about 3 times better in the jets every time. on wake, i can kill all of the AA turrets within 15 seconds, and i know the most common spots for ground troops. my hand and aiming has gotten really steady (if i see a target i can just aim at it and not wobble all over the place trying to aim). i am getting really good with the bombs, but most of all, not that i didn't already know, but i use the machine gun constantly (not literally), like if i see a heli, i know what to do, start slowing down and aim at the cockpit with the gun, and shoot off maybe one missle, but normally by the time i am about 20m away from it it blows up from my machine gun.

i dont know, i have just been getting way better in jets. every aspect. my k/d ratio is 4.26 and every game it is getting more common for me to get into the jet and never come out of it the whole game, and the most common time i die is when i get tk'ed.

the thing i am not to good in, and havent been improving on (in wake on usmc) is dogfighting. it may be the fact that i am in an F35-B while the other guy is in the J-10, i dont know, but it seems like every time i get in a dogfight (if it is like a good pilot behind me) i can never shake him, but yet he cant quite kill me, and the longest time i have gone in a dogfight, was literally the whole game. i didnt understand him... instead of either one of us getting any points, he was trying to kill me... the whole round..i mean i got a few AA kills here and there (because they are quick kills) but still.. why do people insist on following you the WHOLE round..?

i dont even know what the hell i have been rambling about.

i guess i just need to get better at "losing other jets".

                                Bolded -> Bingo

The guy chasing you isnt very bright, anyone who cant kill a JSF in a J10 dosnt deserve the J10, period.
