Excellent review. I have not spent any time in a helo to date but can add some value now if I do. Thanks again.

I've been practicing the trick where you switch seats in a chopper by yourself, to the gunner seat, and right click quick, and tv missile your target Been working well, taken down a few full black hawks, dozens of armoured vehicles, and loads of enemy attack choppers

Yeah same, I couldn't find a gunner last night in a half empty server so I just did it solo, I was relying on the UAV/commander to spot out armor for me and I just fired from almost 400m away (the limit is 400m range I think, used to be 600m pre 1.2)

They were often out of viewing distance but as you guide it it comes into view.

They never once saw it coming, as a regular sniper in BF2 I love the feeling of long range kills. :)

            I think it's more like 200m...

Re: Chopper Pilot's Guide to being a GREAT gunner

Nope, definitely 400m, perhaps even a tad more, I flew solo last night and was taking out armor from that range.

Re: Chopper Pilot's Guide to being a GREAT gunner

I've finally read the holy chopper bible and my faith has been renewed ten fold knowing that there are others out there that feel like I do. I can't explain how good it feels to get a gunner that has an idea of what their job entails. I fly for my gunner, not for the kills. I can only appreciate a gunner that spots for me and understands priorities; like shoot the buggies before the soldiers on the ground.

I'm a good chopper pilot and I'm always on the lookout for a good gunner or vis versa. I can shoot them down just as well as fly them or gun them. I'm a chopper nut in need of another nut to nut it up with.

Ah, it's more the connection that the gunner and pilot must share in order to turn the darn thing into what it is meant to be: a gunship; that can very well turn the tide of the battle.

Good to know you fly for your gunner- I hope that you will always have a gunner that will always gun and spot for the pilot (hopefully with VoIP too, that way, you two are doubly efficient and effective... becoming one nasty warship).

I'm both a relatively good pilot (in that, I can fly and know a fair few maneuvers, will look out for my gunner- and anything I want him to TV missile, I'll spot it for him- since it requires the nose of the Helo to point at the target anyway), and a rather good gunner (rather knowing of the cannon's trajectory, and I can land a mean TV missile on almost anything).

I'd share a helo with ya anytime.

i cosider myself a good chopper pilot and i hate it when a proper idiot decides to have a picnik in the front seat of my lovely grey heli. Something drives every gunner to decide to chain gun everything in site even the sea which ticks me off cus the noise blocks my listening to any passin jets, helis, tanks, cars. then once you spot a lovely brown tank passing perfectly parrell to your position and the chump opens a can of chain gun on his ass that does about 2 damage, im sittin in the pilot seat think what an arse, the tank swizzles his turrets around while the smacktard is stil chipping the paint work with his potatoe gun dispite the fact he could take the damn thing out with one rocket punch to the plate he continues to stroke the tank with his potatoe gun, by this time a tank shell has taken us outta the sky.. game over forcing you to repeat the words noob and twat over and over until he realises his a crap gunner and ejects , leaving me gunner less and vunerable.. especially sinse the tards reduced the rocket count to 8 god damnit !!! my score in the chopper is still sweet with 9000 or so kills to 1100 death in 80 hours but its always nice to have a gunner do the dirty work for ya so hopefully your guide will educate the masses and get some people to change their ways :P

Sweet, I haven't even played for a week, but I've never been in the co-pilot seat, always get 3rd seat. Now I know what to do

Gunner can still shoot at people right? Not sure on that, I would

Yeah, I once entered a server full of noobs - all of them who seem to think the TV missile was just a really cool camera trick. At one point this same guy who kept coming in to be the gunner- who has never heard of a TV missile- and is awful at using the cannon, plus doesn't spot or do ANYTHING useful... I taught him how to use the TV missile- HE STILL WOULDN'T USE IT! From thereon in I had to take off before he got to the helo- or if I was too late, I just stay put and tell him to get the hell out because I really can't fly with a useless dummy in the gunner-seat- I can only avoid so much incomming fire, and I can only spot so much through the nose of the Helo.

I hope ANYONE who ever wishes to set their ass in a helo reads this - no one wants half a gunship to fly around for their team.
