Re: Jets: BF2's only true downfall.

Planes are very difficult to master. I have been flying for weeks now after I bought a joystick for this purpose. Only now am I beginning to get a positive K/D ratio. There are so many difficult aspects of flying that need to be learned. Getting your bombs to fall where you want them to is one of the hardest things to do in this game. Keeping on the tail of an enemy pilot takes lots of skill and practice. Getting your AA missiles to actually hit a plane or even a copter is very hard to do as well. Try shooting down a jet or ground target with guns, its not easy. Trying to do all of these things while avoiding incomming missles and crashes is quite a challenge.

Once again, the complaint isn't that jets are overpowered, it's that the AA is underpowered.

Every other unit in the entire game has several vulnerabilities. You can take the #1 player in every other category (infantry/tank/APC/helo), and if a team concentrates on killing them, he'll go down. You can take just an average jet pilot, and even if the entire team focuses on killing him, he can get 40 kills with 0 deaths in the round.

No one would like it if the ONLY way to take out a tank was with another tank (other than tankwhores). No one would like it if the ONLY way to take out a chopper was with another chopper (other than chopper whores). In the same way, no one likes it that the ONLY way to take out a jet is with another jet (except for the planewhores).

Do what I did. Start a local server on your own machine. Voila. You can fly to your hearts content. But yeah, downside, nothing is shooting back at you. LOL.

The other way to go (my next step) is low pop unranked servers. I'm going to go see if I can create some impact craters over there for a while before I embarrass myself again.

Well I agree the AA needs some work, but I wouldn't say its underpowered. The problem is that it doesn't track planes, unless they're moving slow.

But there's still a counter for it, and that's another plane in the air. What I'm saying is too often that other plane or planes is neglecting it's role in air superiority, and simply focusing on bombing. That's a human problem, not a problem with the game.

One thing I've noticed that bugs me is I've shot at planes on bombing runs with the vehicle mounted machine guns and it doesn't look like I ever hit them. I thought it was due to their speed. But on at least one occasion, the plane was moving relatively slowly, skimming the treetops.

I would certainly support adding better AA, at the very least to provide defense on the strafing runs. Should be relatively ineffective at higher altitudes. They really got this right in BF1942. And I agree with the others that this should be brought back. It's just going to make it harder for pilots, but it completes the rock / paper / scissors analogy that the game promotes.

Re: Jets: BF2's only true downfall.

Any jet that only bombs sucks
Any jet that only do AA sucks

The may gun can deal equal damage to both air and ground, if you learn how to master the main gun, you can easily get 70 kills per round with 0-1 death.

Jets are overpowered, but not because the design should be nerfed but because its too hard for average 12 years old to get good at.

If no one on your team knows how to drive a tank properly, your team will be crushed by the single armor on the other team, hence the armor nerf threads

If no one on your team knows how to fly the chopper, the enemy chopper will own your team, hence the chopper nerf thread

If no one on your team knows how to shoot a gun properly, then the enemy will crush your team, hence the gun nerf threads

So the conclusion is, there will be people whining about anything other people knows and they dont, if something is known by everyone, no one complains, if something is hard for most people to learn, they will whine until one day only noob tube remains.

I agree - "buy a joystick, jump into a jet and learn to fly" is the same lame quickfix solution recommendation posted by nearly all other jet-fans who cant believe theres actually people who DONT want to line up for the jet and flying it.

The jets ruins the gameplay , and theres no real threat to them. As infantry you are sitting ducks to those jets, and theres NOTHING you can do to fight them with the poor AA. Most of the time, pilots on both sides dont even fight eachother, but just keep pounding on the groundforces, sitting in their invincible killingmachines.

                          I find your logic disturbing

Let me demonstrate, say someone argues to play the game you dont have to have to shoot to kil other people, they whine everytime they get shot that not everyone should be required to fire a gun to survive in this game, and hence, they call for a nerf for all guns in the game. The same applies to armor/choppers.

Alright, let me rephrase your own words
The guns ruins the gameplay , and theres no real threat to them (from someone who dosnt have a gun). As a civilian you are sitting ducks to those guns, and theres NOTHING you can do to fight gun-holding people with poor pistol.

The anti air dont track planes and its not underpowered??? lol, thats a funny statement. its the games job to make sure that humans cant misuse the games weapons. The AA dont work against jets - now how is that not a game problem?

                              give me a F-35 or a china/mec bombers and i can get 200 points in 1 round

and only die once, because i hit a tree

in other words, give the ground people something shoots bullets at planes

stinger missiles are easy enought to rape in 1 pass
