Is anyone making EA aware of this situation? Because I love the planes, but when I'm in the Aircraft Carriers AA, I want to be able to kill enemy planes that constantly bombed the deck of the ship.

Don't you think that if you're so great, you could avoid hitting things like choppers? :p

I recently put in some time flying jets because I was irritated that teams I were on weren't stopping the enemy air power. It's fun, but when a newbie aviator like me can start pulling in 30 kills/2 deaths rounds after about 3 hours of global jet time, you know there's something wrong...

I'm still crap at bombing, though. Can never judge the release time properly...I'm getting better at shooting down other jets, which is the whole reason I started flying anyway. Just trying to suppress the enemy jets to let my team win.

Wake 2007 is easy-mode for pilots.

But yeah, I love that screenshot because my total kills are higher than that of the entire enemy team put together.

Most of the time I do but it's alot harder when you pull up and the chopper pulls up at the same time :P Nuthin you can do there.

hum some guys in there are right, some may really not,
i have more than 13:1kill/death ratio in an airplane and there is a reason why i must admit the airplane is very powerfull. people are whining about the jets to be overpowered when an awesome pilot flies them...
only one thing missing: they are only talking about the su-34(Mec and chinnese), f-15. i can rule a map in an f35 in Gulf of oman for 2round without dying a single time in a round. for example ive already got a total of 90kills and 0death in those 2 round... a good pilot never crashes no matter wich plane he got... the point i want to give is: to be a good pilot you must have been doing enough pratice to almost never crashes... unless you take the noob f-15, Su-34(chinnese-Mec) wich i never take cuz even with 5bomb on board... the f35,f18,mig-29 ,J-10 will rule them and will crash/die/being owned one day or another.
i understand people whinhing about being bombed by 5bomb jets but their real skill is shown when they are in a fighter and owning the ground and the air at the very same time. no one should whine those pilots... if you are not pacient enough to take at least 24hrs of your ground playing to time to convert it to the Air control Art, then why are you whining?

85% of the time i can with 2 F-35 bomb take out a moving tank perpendicular to my direction. its just soooo easy once you've got the perfect tactic to put you 2bombs in a 1meter radius withtout even lowering your speed. (i just wont give this tactic to you cuz it is too powerfull to be sold to the public)

and for those who whine again when its hard and boring and
frustrating to wait for a plane to respawn when the jets spawns are camped by snipers, C4, ART...

1st: its because someone crashed for no reason since its possible to be 95%invicible in a plane

2nd: because you havent played in an aiplane enough to know the exact spawn spot to when the next plane is gonna respawn so no matter if there is 4noob waiting for a jet: you'll get it.
be pacient, take your time, think responsively, ignore the noob, ignore the TKs: Be a real serious intelligent pilot, that's what matters!

So, it comes down to pilot skill. Well, unless the best jet pilot from both teams are of equal skill, one will dominate the other. Whichever team has the dominating pilot, wins the round. Period.

Why? Because, without another pilot in the sky to threaten him, and no useful AA for ground troops, a jet is free to do what it likes to the opposing team. This means attacking their jets, helis, transport helis, bombing tanks on the ground, squads, etc.

Needless to say, I've been practicing flying.

                    How are your flight skills?

                    Discuss.
You can improve your odds on the ground by moving out of the flag radius as soon as it flips neutral, if there is a jet in the area, he will bombard the zone and take off, as soon as he is gone, finish up the flip.

Make sure you spread out, you don't need to have your d!ck pressed up to a flagpole in order to flip it.

Spot them when you see them.

I fly almost every single chance I get, and I find that the smart players are the ones that do what I had just mentioned. I rarely ever get shot down by anything, but I find that smart players spread out and present you with several targets instead of one big one.

Don't hop in the AA nest until the jet has passed over you. You aren't going to have good odds of hitting them head on, your best bet is to shoot them off when their flight path is within 30 degress of the tube the aa missiles are being tossed from.

anyways I think jets are only one of several of BF2s downfalls...they are really annoying though. I never did get how they can be 100% accurate all the time

Re: Jets: BF2's only true downfall.

Well, after much practice, I took my first foray into the skies last night on a public server. Notice I said that I practiced. I was confident in what I was doing. I can fly the planes, hover when I need to, land on the carrier and bomb the F out of stationary targets. I spent a lot of time getting to this point.

So you'd expect my K/D ratio to go up after last night's attempt right? Flying planes is easy. And they are invincible.

I actually hard booted my machine thinking I could trick the server into not transmitting my results. UGHHH! I was totally useless. No, correction, I was worse than useless. I was a freakin' plague on my own team. We lost every single round.

So what happened? Well first of all, could you people please stay STILL? LOL. I hadn't trained for moving targets. I kept running into stationary towers and such as I adjusted my trajectory. Also, can't we pilots get along? Is it necessary to shoot me down 5 times in a row, then camp the hanger and kill me 3 more times as I try and get back in my air coffin?

So the lesson of the day is this. The planes are very difficult to master. But yes, I've played against the good pilots and they can totally ruin your day. If both sides have good pilots, then things will be fairly balanced. Otherwise, watch your 6.

Re: Jets: BF2's only true downfall.

^ Finally an honest response. I think strathounds experience with aviation is typical of 99% of the BF2 population.

From the level of complaints out there you'd think every single pilot out there was a regular Chuck Yeager, but the truth is taking jets up to the levels where they're finally able to surpass even average helicopter/tank pilots/drivers takes a lot of skill and experience. In fact I'm shocked you don't see a bunch of complaint threads with helos and tanks as the focus, but I think the general population feels a little more comfortable with those vehicles and wouldn't like them to be changed.

And yes, all it takes is one novice pilot to ruin your day (no matter how good you are). I'm speaking from a lot of experience here when I'll encounter an average pilot that is able cut my score in half or more simply because they're constantly engaging me.

Yes, airplanes are killing machines in the right hand, and they tough to take down if you don't have the required experience in the AA systems, but that's the one of the only real perks a pilot has, and that's survivability. Planes are the only vehicle in the entire game that can't capture flags, can't benefit from commander assets, can't benefit from infantry kits, and can't visually see half the targets they are trying to kill. All of that coupled with a very steep learning curve and I'd say overall planes are on the far below a lot of the other vehicles in terms of average potency.

                          Lastly,

If a plane is kicking your ass then it's your own fault. If you disagree with that statement then I encourage you to join up in a game with me and get on my team and I'll show you exactly what having some good anti-air support is like.

This is like complaining that because one team is better than the other, its unfair for the better team to win.

You're right, air superiority is decided by pilot skill. So remind me agian what is wrong with that, and why it "dooms" BF2??? I think it's great that all aspects of a team need to click in order to win a battle, including air. Thats what Battlefield is all about, right?

Edit- You must have been posting when I was planewhore... but right on the mark with that statement. Planes are tough to master. Its not as if they're ruining the game. I think people just pitch a fit when there's one pilot on a map that's bombing the **** out of them, and no one else on the team wants to get in a plane and fight back because they don't really know how to fly.

                            :)

I decided to give the jets a try. On Dragon Valley I waited for what seemed like an eternity for a plane to appear. I'm waiting, waiting, then I hear this jeep racing towards me. I thought it might be a bad guy. I turn around just in time to avoid being runover by this dikkface who then jumped in the jet that had magically appeared while I was distracted by the idiot.

It would be nice if EA had put jets in the singleplayer so people who want to learn to fly without dying a million times could do so.

I think there are a couple of things that would make the game (inregards to planes) better.

                                1. You have to land at a run way to re-load
                                2. the mobile AA and Phalanx gun have limited radar (like UAV, but for planes only) It is kind of retarded that when you are in a Phalanx gun (which is silly cuz in real life it is a unmaned missle defence tool) that you don't have a limited scope of radar. and a plane takes you out from behind.
                                3. the SAM do a little bit more damage. I mean, if you hit a helio or plane with a SAM at most the plane should be messed up enough that the pilot has to eject.
