In war, the only thing that can reliably take out aircraft is aircraft. I also hate artillary, but it is also a part of war.

Exactly. Which is why there are both air superiority fighters and bombers in BF2.

FFS. First they cryout that the bunnyhopping shouldn't be removed cause the game is a arcade, AND NOW YOU PEOPLE ARE SAING THAT IT IS A SIMULATION OF WAR?!

This is a game, like he said, if planes are sciccors, what are the stones? And if AA is stones why are the stones made out of cotton.

lol, I am surprised to see this topic still getting posts. The stones for jets are other jets. Each team gets one or 2, each one has it's pro's and cons. The only variable you cannot account for is the ability of each teams pilots.

When playing on pub servers, you don't end up with the best pilots flying for your team, usually you end up with some idiot, who either crashes on take off (after tk'ing for it), thinks it's a taxi, thinks he is in a zero and kamikazi's helicopters, or thinks that the mountains look pretty and should fly aimlessly around them.

If we could get one thing out of this thread, I hope that all the wannabe pilots out there, practice flying in a self hosted game. Stop practicing online. Nothing irks me more than someone typing in, "sorry, I just got the game yesterday and don't know how to fly...." yet they run back and grab the jet/helicopter again.

That's simple. It's a very valid issue. We have a few who are trying to get it locked but the admins are not buying into it.

I've been TK'ed waiting for a jet by some a$$ who kept grabbing it and dying under a minute after each takeoff. It was annoying. I spawned in time to run out in front of him to punish him again. Fortunately he got kicked. Childish at the time, but I was pi$$ed.

The newbs taking off and practicing I don't mind so much, it makes me believe AA is actually effective.

Its how war works IMHO, The Ground Attack Fighter Bomber is the ultimate weapon in close combat war (before someone thinks of flaming, no I have no experience of real war, and I do not pretend I do, this is what I percieve from Documentrys etc.).

Well, war is nasty and horrible. A game is a game, and should be fun.
Ambitions of realism is fine and all, but there has to be some reason to it.

Your statements are clashing, did you not just say that AA works fine?

EDIT: Also, that was a carefully planned attack, just as I said, if you do it properly it works perfectly. Hammers don't work well as screwdrivers.

LOL....I can see it....and that why the video cuts off probably...just as they are chatting their allah akbar...a hail of bullets from the other chopper pounded the area...the first of which smashed the camera and that is why it cuts off :p

Even though I find it disturbing, all I can say is WOW!! WHAT A SHOT!!

I know nothing about these sort of weapons, so can someone tell me how he managed to hit that choppa from so far away? Was it heat seeking? Or was it a fluke shot from all the high fives and trash talking yelled out at the end.

Not really, Give two attack choppers to each side instead. At least it takes time for a Helo to return to base and hover to repair/rearm. Jets just fly over at high speed and like magic-instant repair rearm. Or maybe they are available for the first 5 minutes of the map for an initial bombing run or two, but once the troops are deployed, they are grounded.

They could also make the AAs rearm faster.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of jets, but they are way overpowered and ruin the balance of the game. They need to be taken down a few notches.

Hey, jets are great....just make it more of a challenge. I DO think EA is on to something though.

One true military pilot quoted that the jets would NEVER swoop in that quickly while AA and TOW were live because it would end their career in a flash....period. They would wait until ground forces would take these out. That's because they are that accurate. Forget the reports of inaccurate missiles you heard about during Dessert Storm. Those were "Patriots" going after other missiles (SCUDS). Not airplanes. A heat seeking missile will take out an aircraft 70% of the time, depending on the location of the impact.

Not to mention "flying over an area" and getting repaired? Hah.
Make a plane land for a bit. Look how long it takes to repair a tank. Sheeeeeet. An aircraft should take longer. If I'm in a jet, I'd be wringing my hands waiting for the repair knowing special forces were in the area. NOW THAT'S FREAKIN FUN, knowing your head could instantly be blown off.
