Yea man, but you are a minority. I haven't seen any pilot driving away planes from infantry on the servers I played.

I would like to see planes landing to resupply and AA much more effective.

There is a reason US planes have specific orders not to go under 1000 m altitude in Afghanistan and Iraq. That is because Igla and Stinger are very deadly.

I'd like to see machineguns and flak do more damage as well. Personally, I think when a jet takes a certain amount of flak damage, it has to land to get repaired. When moving at 900mph, do you realize what kind of stress is put on the airframe? Especially when the skin is pockmarked with damage.

I say, let SAWs do heavier damage to a jet (Their armor isn't that great, really. You can shoot a hole into the skin of a jet with a pistol.) and that damage needs to be catalogued. Say a jet has 15 "hitpoints", which are those bars.

If I spray one as it comes down for a bombing run with my SAW, it should do 1 point of damage to it. If I do it again, it should do 2. If the jet accelerates up to say, 900mph, that damage needs to start ticking downwards. Lets say, 1 hitpoint for every 5 or 10 seconds at 900+mph thrust. This would be your jet's skin starting to warp and peal as air catches on the bullet holes. This is how it really happens, as a hull can't cope with that sort of pressure.

      Example:

My jet takes damage from a SAW as it dive-bombs something. My jet took 2 points of damage. It is now at 13/15 health.

I continue playing, cruising at about 800-850mph. Lets say I need to go evasive for whatever reason, so I reef into a hard turn/dive which puts my speed up to 1050mph. After 5 seconds, I take 2 more damage. If I continue this high speed for another 5 seconds, I take 2 more damage. So on and so on.

Now if I get to 7/15 health, instead of being able to fly-by repair on airfields, I have to land to have the repairs done. Because simply speaking, it makes more sense to have the holes patched by the invisible ground crew that's supposed to be at the airfield.

This is just a suggestion for helping to balance things. There are plenty of good ideas, most of which involve improved AA and man-portable missiles. (Someone wasn't sure earlier. It's the SA-7 that was most-popular as the shoulderfired Soviet missile. It's called the Grail.)

Mainly, I want to see small arms doing more damage to jets.

      Absolutely,

It only takes one or teo well placed shots from a high calibre machine gun to disable a jet and give it enough problems to take it out if the fight. If you shoot at a jet passing overby and a lucky shot hits a pressure regulator on the engine, that engine is should be giving the pilot enough problems to get his mind off bombing and shooting and get him thinking about landing his plane safely of bailing out. This would force a pilot to be a bit more careful and even things out a bit. Also, someone made a remark about the proper use of AA. One thing about AA is that a pilot would NEVER fly his jet over an area that is being covered by AA. Infantry would be called in to either take it out or it would be disabled by some other means. AA weapons SHOULD be a serious threat to a pilot but unfortunately, it's not.

Firstly, I'd like to state that i'm not 'attacking' you guys, I am merely participating in the debate. I apologize if you feel offended by my opinion(s).

Now about this. One missle to take down an aircraft, I'd accept that, however, this should mean the aircraft is going down, and makes it a ball of fire streaking acrost the sky for seconds instead of just blowing up, thus giving the pilot time to eject. 1 out of 100? Thats not a realistic figure. I and a few other coordinated player kept the aircraft hiding or trying to bomb the hell out of us in Oman on 64/64 many times, it's all about timing and skill. Machineguns should do damage, but not as much as you're thinking, flak? Yes, however flak is hard to make accurate, notice how it didn't destroy us completely during WWII? Yes, it was a threat, but we were able to deploy hundreds of airborne infantry.

I think your system is missing some logic, say the jet is going 900 mph and you shoot it with a SAW, it's not going to do as much damage as say when a jet is going 1200. This can be related to cars, if two are driving towards eachother at 50 mph, head on, thats the equivilant of slamming into a brick wall at 100 mph for each cars. This applies to the situation.
The idea of causing gradual damage doesn't seem like it'd work too well.
Why? Because people would be shooting holes in aircraft before they take off. Small arms aren't for using against aircraft or armored vehicles, hence the term "small arms".

And in response to Demon6's post,
Tool isn't alone, I do it, ever had a game where aircraft wasn't a major problem? I'm gonna try and quote Futurama off the top of my head, "If you do your job right, no one notices at all" -The Nebula Bender called God.(Though I am atheist, please please, don't bring religion into this, thats not what my intent was lol).

Landing to resupply? What about the players who don't have joysticks? That would make it more difficult than people already say it is, you can't fix a problem by causing another. People are already complaining about how hard it is to fly.

What is your source of information stating that planes shouldn't go below 1000 m in Afghanistan and Iraq? If this is real information and not something you've conjured up to make a point, this is merely a safety measure and to protect our planes from any would-be threat. We can't afford to buy new planes at the time. I can honestly say that the odds of someone having ISLA or STINGER missles, or even launchers for either, are HIGHLY unlikely. Most of Afghany and Iraqi insurgents are using leftovers from Russia's invasions. FYI, STINGERS can hit targets as high as 3800m so that blows your point out of the water. Not sure the specifics on ISLA.

Some dude in a ****ing helicopter earlier got a massive score of 168 kills and 0 deaths because he just sat in a chopper the whole game on the gatling gun.

Did you congradulate him? Can you sit in a chopper and get 168/0? Probably not. He's using equipment for legit reasons, more power to him.

this is such a popular thread i thought i would add some actual research.honest research and i will preface what i am going to tell you by saying that i am quite proficient with AA guns i have hunted flying game all my life.i spent the majority of a gulf of oman map on the AA gun at the mec airbase. there were several excellent jet pilots on the usmc team from our clan and one just as good visiting our server.all three as good as they get.they came at me continously for 3/4 of the map.i fired at them over and over at least ten times i had the guns toned in with straight on shots.i mean they flew straight at me never swayed off course one degree, i kept the gun sight dead on the plane until the missle left my eye site. in addition i had at least 20 other shots from all angles every possible shot you could imagine.i fired a minimum of 2 shot vollies each time and on some occassions 4 shot vollies were possible.my results: i have yet to hit the first jet.thats right not one, not a feather. i killed one friendly chopper at games end and ingured another, must of got killed 30 times and left the game with -2 points.now i know what some will say, man he must not be worth a s_ _ t.well it just ant true i can shoot AA just about as good as anyone. truth is the only AA that works at all is on ship where you have the cannon that actuall gives you the kill. those 8 missles you have fly aimelessly around the sky the overwellimg majority of time.(dont have time to do proper spell check and grammer please dont call me any obscene or degrading names)

Eh, can you say anything else besides that? The AA is obviously broken, people dont want to spend more time in the AA because its a TK machine, and a deathtrap.

Did you do anything about it, like go and blow him up? Or did you just complain about it like you're doing here?

                      I'm guessing the latter.

If it kills you, its obviously unfair.

Yea I can say something else, but it seems that you just aren't getting it. Prove to me the AA is broken. TK Machine? Meh, so you can hit planes then eh? You just keep hitting the ones with X's over them. I see the problem now and it's not the AA. Death trap? As I said before, don't sit in the turret, prone next to it, get in a building next to it. HIDE! Don't sit in it otherwise it's gonna get you killed. Think about what you type before you do it, you'll end up in a better conversation that way.

LOL... instead of fighting back, people would rather take the low road and complain I guess.

Granted, I get ****ed too sometimes when I get killed over and over by a tank or heli or airplane. So I either find a different server or make the guy whose killing me's life a living hell by focusing all of my aggression on him. I guess the third option just never occurs to me (third option being coming to an internet forum and making a 'rant' thread).
