It installs as a separate mod so it won't interfere with online play. Of course, that means it takes up another 700+ MB on your hard drive.

simple noob question: by 'back up this file' do you mean copy it and paste into a new folder? or do you mean back it up onto a CD or zip drive?

It doesn't work for me: the best I coud get was the game dumping me to desktop when attempting to load a single player map. I suspect there's something wrong in the way the new Objects_server.zip file is repacked (I used WinZip).

Thanks for the info. Confirming this does work, it is easiest if you do as he says and only unzip the files you need to modify, then just add them back to the zipped archive. Oh and punkbuster will catch this, you will need to revert to the unmodified .con's to play multiplayer, unless the server has punk off.

Just create a copy of the folder before you do anything. Rename it something like UNLOCKS SAFE and when you are ready to play online again, just repaste it to the Mods file. Make another folder with the file you will edit something like UNLOCKS FREE and keep the edited folder in there. Just copy and past the one you want.

LOL, no bowing is neccesary. It is highly recommended to remove the unlocker before trying any multiplayer games unless it is on a private lan where all systems have the patch applied, and the dedicated server is configured with it as well (if applicable).

I had this problem too, then I looked at the file again with winzip and realized the path that was saved was wrong (it showed up at the bottom of the file being that it was just added).

I put the "kits" directory on the c:\ root drive and then dragged and dropped it into the archive and it worked (the files replaced the pre-existing ones like it should've).

I've recently started using 7-Zip (free opensource http://www.7-zip.org) for modding the BF2 zips and it is much easier. Has its own explorer-like interface so you can drop files into folders in the zip without having to create the whole path yourself.
