      we obviousely got two diffrent game versions as I need to aim above my targets with the M95 at a certain distance

      please note how I'm not talking about the M24! - and neither about a freaking AK or somethign else that has nothing to do with the sniper rilfes!

        lets assume that the bullets are not effected by gravity. Could they possibly create a standard curved trajectory for the bullit path? A slight arc that leaves from the barrel, depending on deviation, and passes above and below the crosshair's depending on distance. Seems like this would explain both sides of the argument.

          assuming that trajectory path is derived (optimized) from your horizontal distance to the target (like Flag/objective distances in the 3D Hud Map) instead of threedimensional, that would even explain why you need to aim "below" a target that is standing below you (you at a crane/building)
          while you can aim point blank at the same visual distance when both are on the same level.

            Unless they decide to irrational, there is nothing in the bullet or deviation code right now to suggest anything like this at all. I would not even know how to do with the the current engine aside from making a weapon with 0 deviation and giving it a bullet drop.

            I will admit that with the videos I will give you (Drevor, Amtrak, etc.) the benefit of the doubt, I am going to try some tests right now using the Battlefield recorder. Until I find otherwise, my answer stands firm from the hard evidence in the bullet and deviation code. Although unlikely, it is very possible that with the deviation the bullet hit lower than the crosshair. As I said I will look into this myself.

              Thanks for looking into it. Keep in mind though these are the extreme edge of the view distance. I dont know why 400m looks like a kilometer in this game...

              For distances up to about 250m (VERY far in game), I do not have to adjust my shot much, but I do usually have to take a second shot because the first one BARELY fell short.

              I think its the appearance of distance that is throwing people off. I know the actual coding is a tough sell, thats what I would believe myself had I not been doing otherwise in game. Let us know what you find.

                    Quite a day...

                    Referring to my previous post, 1 and 3 still stand true. However there is infact bullet drop. I guess I never noticed it in coding because I never was at the extreme ranges required to notice it.

                    Turns out, unlike Battlefield 1942 the bullets are not defined with gravity. When gravity is not defined it defaults to a value of 1, I have always thought it defaulted to 0. Oops... :laugh:

                    And of course, followed up by test, pictures, and videos here they are.

                    In these tests I was aiming at a small rock waaaaay in the background (not the one you can see, a smaller one next to it).

                    Test 1: M95 at extreme range.

                    Result: All shots showed up about 3-5 meters below the rock.

                    Test 2: KORD 12.7mm Machinegun

                    Result: Same target, same distance. Again the shots land about 3-5 meters below the rock.

                    Test 3: WZ551 25mm Cannon

                    Result: Same as the M95, shots landed 3-5 meters below target area.

                    Never been owned by myself anymore. I will edit my post above to include this new information. I also might create a seperate topic with all of this information to settle this once and for all, maybe sticky it, or at least put it in my signature.

                      What kind of speed are you talking about on the rifles. I cannot for the life of me notice any delay at the ranges I normally shoot at. And that's coming from BFV where I never lead any shots.

                        No! Thank you! so many times I just hear " no you are wrong" and thats the end of it in other threads. You are the first person so far that I have seen go back on their own findings to do additional research to prove/disprove their original claims. I wish more would do the same, thanks again!

                          Which also proves that a bullet fired horizontally, 1m from the ground will hit the ground at the same time as a bullet dropped from a height of 1m.

                            The website was posted for those who wanted to know more about weapons and the way they work. For example the info on silencers on weapons is a great read. I was taught the example posted during highschool just thought it's kinda cool.

                              I dont really care about bullet drop, i mean since there proberly is bullet drop people will figure out how to counter it for example distracting the enemy with the sniper and have another class flank the enemy, my point is we will all adapt to bullet drop if there is so. :)

                                I agree there is both bullet drop and bullet time. The question for snipers (and others) remains as to how much do we ajust at what ranges? It'd be nice to know this, especially when it takes me 4+ shots at 200m to get the right angle with the m95 (very annoying)

                                By what the videos have shown , at 400m the bullet drops to the "6" line on the scope wich would mean at 200m it would drop a quarter as far (roughly), no? It'd be nice if someone could test this. (dont have bf2 with me atm so i cant :/ )
