What about bullet time?... Im still not too sure about bullet time but i think its in there.. I always have to lead my fire to hit running enemies but many people sy there is no bullet time.

I'm willing to bet you just found a flaw in the random-deviation of the weapon...and named it, " Bullet Drop ".

Not to your discredit though, I mean, if it functions like bullet drop. And you can do so on a repeat basis, why not call a spade-a-spade.

But! On another note, bullet drop is not coded into the game. So... Erm. Yeah.

Travel time is in the game, with all guns.

mp5 gives the best example of the alleged bullet drop, cant hit **** with it from 30m+? try aiming high and see what happens.

H2YO ROFL I think thats an answer you should put towards EA. Nice researching that. Although I'm no physics man, anything C related is just childsplay to me...

Yes, it's true. Once the bullet leaves the end of the barrel, it would see that the bullet would fall to the ground. As Newton's Law of Physics state every action has a reaction!

And you actually had to go to a website to figure that out? :O

I suggest EA implements laser guns in the next patch bcoz the speed of light doesn't change even when the speed of the source of the light changes

Now to get back on topic:
I think these things should really be in the manual.. wind clearly doesn't have an effect nor does distance/drag (same damage regardless of distance)

              (mind my english)

lol.. yes.. and spinnig around real fast while holding down the trigger really gives the bullets that extra speed leaving the barrel. Works on all guns and vehicles !

I don't know about the guns but there definately drop when you fire the anti tank rocket launcher with the USMSC PLA or MEC launchers.

So i guess it stands to reason if they put it in for those then they'd have put it in for the rifles etc too.

Re: The presence of gravity... now a question.

The curve on the tank shells has been around since BF1942. They have reduced it since then (the tanks in BF1942 fired like catapults) but it's still there. The thing is they are constant like the grenade launcher. The rifles have a random deviation or spread pattern. This spread pattern makes it difficult to determine if there actually is bullet drop in the game. Bullets are represented by a ray in a game and the question is if it can have a curve and a spread pattern at the same time.

Making a curve that affects a shot at 500 meters on a rifle that can fire 2500+ meters sounds rather silly. But then again there are a lot of strange weapon behaviour in BF2. If you run with a saw pointing the barrel straight forward you have to be careful so you don't shoot yourself in the foot..

I doubt very much that bullets have travel time. If anything it's the ping that forces you to lead the shot. (lower ping = less lead time). I play on servers with 40 or so ping and never lead much with the sniper.

Re: The presence of gravity... now a question.

The bullets definately have travel time, as anyone who plays support can tell you (there is a hugely noticeable difference between the tracer speed/lead distance as you work your way from the SAW to the PKM), and snipers know there is because even with the randomness of the shots, they still need to lead a moving target.

As for bullet drop, I still can't tell because I still can't differentiate between a prone/scoped miss being because the bullet fell off at range or because it just decided to come into existance 5" above my gun barrel and travel 5 degrees depressed from my barrel's angle. So, even if there IS bullet drop, I don't think it is worth worrying about too much.

As for firing straight up and getting hit by your own shot... that I'm almost certain won't happen. Bullets have a speed but it seems to be constant, so your shot will head up, and just keep going until they are removed at their 'max range.' In 1942 there *was* no max range for most things but as I remember there still was no drop so you couldn't do it then, either.

Now that I think of it, one way to figure out once and for all if there is/isn't drop, is to get someone with a SAW and try to 'bombard' an area (actual MG tactic!). Not sure if enough range to do it is coded in but if there is drop, eventually the MG bullets will arc back down and you could basically "shell" an area with your MG. I've never seen anything lead me to believe this is possible though, so again I'm going to say "probably no drop."

Re: The presence of gravity... now a question.

The game has a physics engine. . .so they don't have to program drop into each gun because by the nature of the engine, if the bullets have a speed and weight then they WILL drop. So "looking at the tweak guides" doesn't prove anything.

Deviation on the sniper rifle when using the scope is VERY low. . .so trying to say that explains the drop is silly because it is very little and, if the deviation is always down, then that would make the deviation of the gun completely unlike every other weapon in the game. Which would make the programming more difficult. We all know EA/DICE is lazy and wouldn't put more effort into if they had to.

Zagashi's video proves beyond a doubt that the bullets have a speed, so leading DOES have to do with travel time and not just ping (if ping at all). Just watch it on slowmo, there is a good half second between the shot and when he gets the hit mark. If it was instantaneous, he would see the hit instantaneously.

Zagashi, I think your videos do a great job demonstrating bullet drop and considering you have 49% accuracy with the sniper rifle, while using it alot, I'll take your word for it and the fact that this game is based on a physics engine as proof beyond doubt that they have a drop. Thanks.

IF distance vectors/rays or bullets as we wrongly call them where coded differently for each weapon then the game would run at 1 FPS due to massive CPU overload. Ask any 3D programmer (I have).. Either all bullets have a small travel time which is the same for all rifles or most likely there is none.

Yet these videos prove exactly the opposite of what you say? I KNOW there is bullet drop because I fire with it with M24/M95 all the time. I MUST fire above my target (slightly so at 300m) more noticable at anything higher than that. I have hit targets using the 500m hash on the M95 scope as well. If it's "Random" deviation... why does it ALWAYS deviate DOWN? Not so random...

This much I know is fact.

I have yet to prove bullet travel time... I suspect that is more due to latency. I seem to lead the target by the same distance at 100m and at 400m either with successful hits.

What Im curious to see is if there is bullet rise... I more often miss shots at 50m from elevated positions when aiming for the head (using M95 seems to do it more), it drifts just above it...just barely enough for me to miss. Bullet rise is a characteristic of ballistics in where the round will rise slightly in the first 50-100m of travel, and then fall back to an arc trajectory. Although, this is a RL thing, I doubt they coded this...

although... I hit more elevatedhead shots now when I aim for the chin level or neck at close ranges.

On a seperate note... Delta Forces bullet drop looks much more prominent because their ranges are more realisitc. The ranges in BF2 are WAAAAAAY off. "300m" in game looks more like it should be 1000m...
