Well if I could get $500 for my account I'd sell it in a second. In fact I'd let it go for a lot less. Good name and reputation? Hell, it's the internet! Who cares! I can make another alias and let the people who matter know about the change.
Would I buy a BF2 account? Pffft! For the unlocks? For the medals? For the ribbons? WhyTF would anyone care enough about that BS to spend money on it?!?!?!
I'd sell my account but I'd consider whoever bought it to be one lame arsed MFer!
Im pretty sure people who wanna play on non ranked servers but dont have enough time to earn all those unlocks due to work/family would probably buy an account via ebay .. as for me tho im not sure id sell/buy my account that i put alot of work into
i remember i used to sell virtual items in RPG's back in the day for alot of cash (I made over $1000) but its really easy for people to screw you over on something that isnt real for instance ... i remember in one of my $250 sales the person purchased a virtual item from me and a bunch of other sellers then like a month later she did a mass chargeback to everyone claiming her credit card was stolen so we all got together (i knew some of the other sellers) and called paypal even dug up some info on the person and paypal said that they couldnt do anything about virtual items unless you had proof of delivery (signature upon delivery) but you obviously cant do that for virtual items so your money is lost and you have to pay them back the amount + a chargeback fee
another reason not to sell your account is if EA somehow links your account to the one on ebay (IE: u forget to block out your user name in the screenshots or have the exact stats as an account on ebay) your account will most likely be reset all the way to 0
some of the rpg's have even started asking ebay to take down peoples account auctions when they try to sell them on ebay (I had this happen with an Asheron's Call account)
if you do however manage to sell your account with no troubles by some miracle then i suggest useing something that they couldnt do a chargeback with (like bidpay) or mailing them the cd with cdkey and everything also by mail that way you have proof of delivery
IF someone offered to sell you their account for a reasonable price say...a sargent rank with pretty good weapon unlocks and a respectible amount of ribbons and badges.....would you consider it? OR would you sell yours if someone asked??
Pls don't flame me. I'm not offering or selling. Just a thought for the community.

Selling accounts make no economic sense. Let me explain:
If I wanted to, I could go out and work at McDonalds for £5.50 an hour. I could get better jobs, but let us use this as an example because it's minimum wage and doesnt necessarily require: a) any kind of qualification or b) the ability to speek English. So anyone can do it.
Now I've been playing BF2 for about 60 hours and Im half way between Lance Corporal and Corporal. Let's extrapolate this out and you can see that I'll be a Corporal after a total of about 100 hours of play. Now if I were working at McDonalds I would have earnt £550 in that time. If I sell my Corporal account on eBay, am I going to get £550 ($1,000 approx)? I doubt it.
Let's take another example. I continue playing and get to Sergeant. At this point I'll have been playing, say, 220 hours. If I had been working at McDonalds then I would have earnt £1,210 ($2,200). I highly doubt that I'll get that on eBay.
So we've established that selling BF2 accounts is less profitable than working for McDonalds but there are other factors to consider:
1) Short of doing illegal work (ie. below minimum wage) you cant earn less than a job at McDonalds. You could do a lot better without much effort.
2) In any case, you arent going to make enough money out of selling BF2 accounts to support your living expenses, so it isnt going to take 220 hours @ 6 hours / day for a total of about a month to make that Sergeants account, it's going to take you several months playing BF2 in the evenings.
3) Playing BF2 is fun. But then again, it becomes a chore when you're just manufacturing accounts to sell them.
In short, you may be able to make enough money for it to be worthwhile on $RPG with it's massive fan base which always seems to include a few fanatical nutters who would like nothing better to buy a level 86 account with seven earthenblade magic elf rings or whatever, but on BF2 having a "high level" account really isnt worth it, when if all you want is unlocks you can start 8 different accounts and have them all at Lance Corporal before you've gotten one account to Corporal.
I used to play a MMORPG called Project Entropia .... (www.project-entropia.com) some of you may of heard of it .... there is no monthly fee and it is free to dl and play, the only problem is the ingame currency.... you deposit say $10 and you get 100 PED (Project Entropia Dollars) to buy guns armour ammo etc etc. Accounts on that were sold for upwards of $1000 but they would be locked if MindArk found out. There was some INSANE transactions on that ... a virtual Isalnd sold for .... wait for it ..... .... $26,500 yes thats right over 25 grand or £13,700.
The prices of items in this game is also insane, the best armour set will cost you upwards of $3500.
Ppl were also selling Americas Army accs for around $100 it was always fun to keep killing noobs with 65+ honour :P
99% sure its illegal and would just get the account restarted or deleted.
Sure it's pointless. The achievements would not equal the awards, and only someone interested in 'status' would want to buy an account... but point out which law makes it a crime to sell an account. I'd like to know.
I can save you time. It's not illegal. There are no laws saying you can't sell your own virtual property if you in fact own it. I am 100% sure of that. Not 99% sure. If it were illegal, we'd have thousands of people in jail that play any number of RPG's online. Ebay has tons of accounts for sale. Just look for them.
And there would not be a need for anyone to know about the sale except the seller and buyer. Therefore there would be no reason to restart or delete the account.
