Re: Find out your BF2 Skill Rating!

ZapStarfighter thanks for clalifying that, i hope i didnt sound like i was trying to critisise you, clearly a hell of a lot of thought has gone into your formula, kudos to you :salute: By the sounds of it your method of rating may be the best way of working it out, certainly loads better then anything the BFHQ is going to throw at us.

My comments were more rhetorical then anything else, any method of rating skill can never take into account the thousands of things that are not scored or logged, for example some of the best players i have seen (IMO) were anti-tank guys that stuck with it and cleared an armour convey under fire, or a player that plays kits as needed not just to rack up points. These team players hardly ever appear on the scoreboard but invariably have considerable skill. Mind you come to think of it, those type of players probably dont check thier stats anyway so it probably all works out :)

Re: Find out your BF2 Skill Rating!

A very primitive version of my site is complete:

Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!

Note: This site doesn't pull stats from anywhere, so you'll have to get your stats from another site and manually input them. Try got3n.com or bf2tracker.com.

When I have more time this afternoon I'll add a bunch of information, including:
      What the scores mean
      How it works
      Nicer Graphics

Criteria by Criteria breakdown will take a lot of coding, so that might take a few days. For now I'll just leave it up and let you guys try it out. Enjoy!

            Yep. :)

Mine is just over 120, so we're both in the above average category.
            Anything over 150 is great.

89 here. Basically average, which is what I expected. About half my playtime was on urban maps, and my KD ratio is slightly below 1, mostly because of my time spent as a medic in Karkand. About 20% of my kills are vehicle kills, and I'm not an excessive TKer.

I'm curious what you consider an average Commander score per hour.

                What is NaN mean?

Note: My 'Command Score' and 'Commander Time(in hrs.)' are both 0. I haven't played a second as commander.

It means you got a divide by zero error. Try using 0.00001 for Commander time, and 0 for Commander score.

Yeah, if you have no commander time just do what wreck0 said. Most people have at least a little commander time but if not, you'll still get a valid rating.

The average commander score I chose was 2/min, but it gets an automatic +2 boost before going into the multiplier.

Thanks. I plugged in my numbers and those numbers you said to use.

                      I got ~ 137.37

                        Nice!

The NaN proplem will be eliminated once I add an error catch function. This will also eliminate non-numeric entries, entries that are out of bounds("I have 2000000 kills, l33t central"), etc.

I'm just curious, are you going to factor in things like noobcannons or time spent using a noob kit in the future?

I'll probably take a hit using the noobcannon, but not noob ops. Amazingly, I've spent just 2.2 hours using the spec ops kit in almost 198 hours of BF2 play.

Nice, after putting in the numbers I get a score of about 266.

Good work, man, I can see you put alot of time and effort, as well as thought into this. My only real problem is your factor of vehicle kills. This game was designed as a vehicle-based game for the most part, so punishing those like myself who have almost 3000 kills in vehicles (mine are mostly flying) is sort of absurd. I am not trying to start a fight or anything, I love what you've done. I just don't really like the fact that you're basically saying that because I'm a vehicle whore, I have no skill. It is not easy racking up over 1200 helo kills. Just my personal opinion.

Oh, and if you care to check, my name is redwolf43.

I can see where you're coming from and I anticipated this as a complaint. My feeling is that it takes less skill to kill someone from within a vehicle(especially tanks and APCs) than it does on foot. I'm thinking of editing the vehicle kill calculation to weight armor kills more than others, aviator kills the least, but then that would require even more input from users.

The thing is, a higher K/D ratio with many vehicle kills will still result in a higher score than a low K/D ratio with low vehicle kills, so you still come out ahead.

My point though: Someone with 2000 kills and only 20% vehicle kills is probably a better player than someone with 2000 kills and 60% vehicle kills. Slightly better.
