So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?

Personally unless it really is a clear act of griefing (TK by knife or something) or incredibly stupid behaviour (Like being run over by a tank even though you're running along the *side* of the road in plain view, or you and usually a few other teammates are around the flag capping it and some genius comes up and chucks a grenade behind the sandbags 'to make sure its clear') I will forgive most TKs immediately. Sometimes I'll ask 'why?' over teamchat though if it is something that I think the person had to put SOME thought into setting up the kill but it could still be a case of mistaken identity or something, and just let it time out if I don't get an explanation (pilots I'm pretty lenient with though, because I know it can be hard to find a chance even to use the commo rose let alone type something out, but if a tanker comes up close behind my APC when I'm ina fight and puts a round right in my ass I better get an explanation as to why he though I was a bigger threat than the enemy).

One thing I noticed earlier that I don't *quite* agree with-
That's because I don't think it's ok for a commander to drop arty on friendlies, and then blame THEM for not running out in the open past three enemy apc's to get away. Fair enough, if I run into the arty it's my fault, but if it targets me it's not my fault.
If its a case of 1 friendly vs. several enemies (especially if there really are 3 enemy APCs) at a flag, or if there's one friendly surrounded by a bunch of enemy armor, I see it as perfectly acceptable for a commander/pilot to expect the friendly to be dead either by the time the strike lands or shortly therafter, so risking the TK still lets your team get ahead (yes, your guy dies, but this way so do some of the enemy vehicles, making it much easier for the rest of your team to move in and clean up the area). I'm not saying I'm advocating indiscriminate bombing/artying, but that sometimes you will get artied/bombed and killed, and just have to accept that as being the way the cookie crumbled and accept it rather than getting pissed off thinking 'I could have taken them.'

Because I was punished for an unintentional TK, pretty much every time. So until I see some mercy from people outside of my squad, I will continue to return the favor, preferrably on the fellow who punished me without reason in the first place.

I give them 1 minute to apologize, if it was an incredibly idiotic thing (like the guy running me down, when I've been standing on the road doing something for about 5 mins in our own base) then it's 20 seconds to apologize. I'm a sucker for apology and remorse.

yesterday would have been a day of punishement for me to give. But for some reason, it never gave me the option to punish. This idiot who is driving down the road, I turn to see friendly and he swerves into me and kills me on purpose. I'm like wtf.. and yes it did say teamkill
Later that night in a game (different server), some sh|t head kills me to take my buggy in which I was waiting for him to jump in. I punished him.
Again later on, I was commander. I set artillery in a heavy populated enemy area. Nobody of my team in there. They see it on the map, they hear it (artillery in your area) and yet they run in like idiots and get blown up and blame me. So after I told them off, another player agreed with me that it was their fault.
It just wasn't my night to have fun in bf2.. cause some jackass who ran out infront of my tank and then punished me cause I guess he was def, blind and stupid. I got pissed off and called him a retard... about a minute later I was still pissed off so I said that he was worthless and should go end his life. Wrong to say.. but F that. This game is really starting to piss me off more than having fun. It's bad enough you get -4 when you tk, even if it's due to some idiot who can't take orders or who thinks he is so tough he can eat grenades.
I did alot of forgiving as well. 2 tk within 3 minutes of the game.. sh|t happens.. but the 3rd guy I punished. enough is enough... I spend more time waiting to respawn than I did playing...
commander who sends artillery should not get any punishment due to people being too stupid and then trying to mutany you, unless there are more than 3 tk from the shot.
If it's an accident I"ll forgive, but why don't others forgive? Do they have a special made key board that all has a "page down" key?

I think it’s been two weeks since my last punish.
I always forgive by default, unless it totally obvious like getting run over while your running off the side of the road in a straight line, in the open and the guy runs me over from behind.

I think if the people that TK punish actually played all the kits, vehicles and commander they would realize that the TV missal doesn’t show name tags even though I’ll try to keep an eye on the mini map I some times get turned around in the heat of battle, or the 50 times you DON’T drop Artty on a flag when there are 4 enemy and 1 team member & he gets killed the flags/CP is lost, or that you can’t stop a Tank, APC or Jeep on a dime or I don’t like just sit still in a Tank or APC while capping a flag, I try to make it hard for an A-T or C4 attack.

Or how about the guy that punishes you for saving his butt from an APC with an A-T Rocket only to have him run next to the burning APC just as it implodes and gives me a punish….. :hmm:

Or the guy the drives full speed into the back of your tank in a jeep and dies, and I get a punish….. :hmm:

I played with that cat before, he kept jumping infront of moving tanks and punishing, was pissing everyone off. I was actually able to talk to him for a bit, but when it came down to the 'you jumped infront of the tank I'm trying to avoid APC fire in...so why punish?' He had no response. Maybe he thinks it's an MMORPG and is trying to be in character

I tend to be a bit more forgiving to tk'ers flying planes as they're so fast and the pilots have such little time to react - one of the reasons why FF in real life tends to be more as a result of aircraft than ground fire. Another reason why teamplay is so important in this game - the Commander should be able to inform squad leaders (pilots should always be squad leaders imho) to be aware of friendly troops in certain areas, or warn these squad leaders that air strikes are imminent. But then I also think the out-of-bound areas for the jets should be expanded anyway (but not for the choppers).

Tk'ing is often the result of a lack of team communication (as above) or pure diregard for movement going on around. When a tank in it's base runs over a fellow soldier it is often a case of the latter. Many tk's I've seen have come about simply as a result of the footsoldier wanting to enter the tank for the ride-along and the tank driver completely disregarding this. In this case punishing the tk is acceptable when no apology is forthcoming (assuming the base isn't coming under attack at the time and the driver needed to react fast to attack).

Tk punishing should be allowed and is acceptable but it's up to the responsibility of the players to assure that this is kept strictly within the bounds of fairness. There will always, unfortunately, be those who will abuse the system - that doesn't make the system wrong or mean that punishers "suck". But the tk punishing does need some refining - until then the responsibility is solely on the player issuing the punishment.

                  BS.

Commanders have enough on their damn plate and you, as a team player need to get it through your head....keeping you alive isnt the focus, its protecting and defending flags held. End of story.

EVERY commander will have a -1 or -2. You can pick out the idiot who has -24. There is a difference.

I always try to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, if its clearly an intentional tk, or something thats very retarted, I will punish. **** happens, and so I am not going to go punishing right away, I usually try to give them some time to apologize first. I am willing to forgive a whole lot more for an apology. And I'm not just talking about the commo, you guys can type it, too.

I'm sorry but that is just retarted. If you punish just because others punish you then they won't stop because you are doing the same. Use some common sense and only punish if their TK actions warrant a punish, not because they punished for something you did. The only time I use them punishing me as a reason to punish them is if they do something incredibly stupid and it was their fault they got tk'ed. To just say everyone will get a punish cause you get punished is childish.

i just got done playing daqing oilfields where my teammates ran over my mines 3 times in a row. i don't know if it was the same guy or not.

1st time i got punished. so i ask why he punished me. no answer. so i say he's a dumbass for not looking at his screen. not 30 seconds later another guy runs over my mine. no punish though. so again i say wtf is wrong with you people. no answer. not maybe a minute later another teammate runs over my mine. no punish. so i start *****ing to them asking wtf they are doing, can't they see the ****ing mines? then i get, if you think you are so good, wynterheart, why don't you play another game. WTF?? where did i ever say i was good?? i just want to know why you ****tards are driving over my mines? then they start *****ing at me and calling me a 12 yr old and saying that i think i am better than them... i ended up with -2 score and -12 team points... i had about 9 points from sniping before i went eng.
                      ****ing idiots.

it gets to the point where people are so stupid that i don't even want to play anymore. i play bf2 maybe an hour a night, sometimes more if i'm doing well. so my fun is ruined by these stupid pricks. i really hope 1.03 takes care of this ********

I rarely punish now, especially with the red tag bug. I've been punished because I shot a teammate that had the red tag; I don't blame him for punishing me but we need to be more forgiving when a bug like that exists.

I agree about punishing bombers that don't look, but I tend to only punish real tkers, that think it's fun to kill teammates.

                          My list

                          Never punish:
-Commander arty falls on your head, tuff luck.
-Friendly collision , for instance two planes collide
-Get hit by friendly car or vehicle, if you can't prove its on purpose.
-When you jump out a BH and die because you collide with it.
-when a ground to air missle misses target and locks on the friendly.

Too make this list shorter, never punish accidental stuff
Only the "on purpose team killers", or people who really make too many mistakes or do something thats just too dumb.
Mostly involving airborne units who shoot at any thing they can't identfy at the first second they see it,because there to lame to fly over again to verify.

Thats the rules i go by, sometimes it sucks dying 3 times because of team mistakes, but thats no reason to mess up their game too.
Give respect and respect you wil get.

Blocking your ladder with claymores is stupid.
it's selfish, this way you take a good spot and denie friendlies to access.
I've been denied access to sniperspots because of friendly claymores more then ones, and it's really anoying if people do that.
I don't care if it prevents enemies from coming up, just learn to watch your back.

I don't mean to flame you , but laddermining sux.

I punish people who jump into a vehicle and just drive over you intentionally or if you are getting a flag and you get naded or driven over by a team mate
