(Yes, I know, "It's not realistic!" arguments are often flawed in essence when this IS a game and needs to be balanced for fun, but bear with me).
You're meant to be capturing a flag, controlling the base it's at. Hovering over it for 5s to rapid uncap and recap it is NOT controlling the base, especially if there are multiple (ineffective at taking you down) enemy troops around on the ground out of cap range.
I BH whored for the first time today, as engineer. Got me a Valorous Merit Ribbon to boot. But I do have to say it gets boring fairly quickly (I've minigunned before too, and generall fly the helis as needed) as there's so little challenge. As Eng you either keep the spanner out the whole time or have to keep an eye on health to whip it out quick when needed. As minigunner the only problem you have is overheating. As the pilot you need to watch if your health is going down fast and bug out ASAP if so to give the engineers chance to repair.
None of this is that involved, certainly not a patch on 'normal' play.
And one thing people complain about a lot is the "chase each other around the map retaking bases" play that often happens. BH whoring is the very essence of this.
I'm all for 1) Only letting ground vehicles and troops uncap and cap flags, 2) tuning down the BH miniguns a little (so the other transport helis aren't so bad in comparison), probably by upping the speed of overheat and making them have finite ammo which MUST be replenished by a helipad (for preference, or possibly by a Support guy *on the ground*).

It can be boring in the back seat manning repairs and mining areas you just took to cordon them off, but let me ask you something.
If you dedicated the same amount of time to repairing your buddy in a tank so he can stay up and help the team, is it much more exciting?
No, to me it isn't very exciting. What IS exciting is when we can work well as a team for the good of the whole team, not just us. What IS exciting is when we win because we worked together better than the other team.
Is there another reason to play BF2?Comment

It takes a good squad to run BH, and it takes a good squad to take BH down. It's easy to take BH with pilot only, when you're alone, right? Well, it should take 5-6 people to take the BH with 5-6 people.
I was in BH squad few days ago, and we had 953 squad score. The pilot was amazing (and he was leading the squad great - telling everyone, through mic, where threats are, etc.), and everyone really was trying hard.
When we were against BH, as a squad, we'd easily shoot it down or make it go away.
But when someone wants to take it out alone, that's where whining and trouble starts...Comment

Yep, I try to do this as much as possible. One round I was a medic pilot on Mashtuur City and I had a total of 196 teampoints.Originally posted by CYcopilot = medic

and if im not in it i can take it down, always play with my friends in a squad so easy to work togheterComment

there's two types of people that play BF2, those that love using a fully loaded, medic/support/engineer blackhawk, and those that despise it. those that love it do so because they can get a ton of experience points in a relatively short amount of time. those that hate it are either getting raped by it, or jealous that they aren't getting points. the blackhawk is just like every other vehicle, in terms of character specialties. you can hand out ammo and med people midflight, which is pretty much realistic. the only thing that's gay is the engineer repairing it in midair which would realistically have to be done on the ground...but i think the reason people hate the blackhawk is because they're getting owned by it. when in reality, all you have to do is get an organized team of SRAW/Eryx guys to bring the goliath down, or hop in a tank and put one in the cabin under the rotor. i can see why people hate it, but have these 'haters' ever been in a blackhawk doing the "flagcapture/rape" in it? i bet not, cuz if they were ever in it, then they'd love it for all the free points.
IMO there's nothing wrong with it. i think its very maneuverable, the guns are unbelieveably realistic, and overall its fair. i am kinda sick of people *****ing about how unfair the blackhawk is, in terms of its ownage and point distribution.Comment

Yeah it can get a little frustrating when the other team is capping all the CPs in the first minute in a Helo.Usually it’s because those guys are more organized and our team, well is not.
A few of my favorite weapons for taking out a Helo is a FAV (top gun on the jeep) or the Hummers, Vodniks top mounted guns, all that give full 360 coverage.
The best kit for me has been the A-T, and if there are two of you there with A-T, the Helo has no chance.
A well placed Tank round will usually stir things up a little too.
But if one team has two or three good pilots and the other team doesn’t, then its total air supremacy, and that’s hard to defend against, let alone going on the offensive.
What gets me mad is when I need to spawn at a new CP only to spawn in the open with an Attack Helo or Helo minigun, Tank or APC gun pointed at me, I’m dead before I can take one step. But then I’ve gotten a few kills myself that way….

First off... This game is broken in that regard...
In real life, you can never hold a location from the air...
Someone needs to "GET OUT" of the heli, to cap a point...
Caping from the air is just bullsh!t....
One more thing...
Airplanes and helicopters and tanks and jeeps...
Non of these things can be fixed, while in operation...
Have you every tried to change your cars oil, while driving it ?
This is also a broken part of the game...
CMON FIX THIS BULLSH!T!!!Comment

jup...unbelievable how many times i heard people saying my squad cheated....
It's called TEAMWORK, not cheating :p
today me and my squad owned a server with blackhawk; especially the Kubra Dam and Fushe maps
i had like 250 score per round
for those who think it's unfair...it's not...you can easily shoot a blackhawk down...Comment
