Yup, hacking has taken over this game.

Punkbuster just released a new update which I think has caught a good number of hackers. I personally do recognize that their are hackers in this game, we've all seen videos on youtube and the master banlist, but most people DO make up hackers. When people scream hacks after every death I generally ignore those people. If a player has an usually high kd/r ratio and someone says hack I'll probably actually spend time looking into it because the complaint can be legit.

Public servers without an admin present are the worst for hackers.

They run amuck on the server and the other players either don't notice, don't care or can't do a damn thing about it (i'm the latter).

I think the people using aimbots are most noticeable with the ganz.Since it has such a narrow field of view and accuracy that "should" get better with sustained fire.

If you wish to discuss it further you can post on our website and probably get your ban lifted. If you continue on here I can guarantee you nothing will be done about it.
Ok, yea um ever hear of an exaggeration? My point was simply to state it wasn't immediate like you claimed is all. And I have no problem bringing the issue to your forums.... so that's fine. Sorry to the rest of you who suffered through the bickering. :P lol.

Back on topic. PB caught 4 people using aimbots on our different servers yesterday. Either some kids got their allowance and bought some hacks, or PB came out with an update and is catching more of the latest hacks. I'm hoping it's the second one but no going to hold my breath.
It's probably a bit of both.... but either way, that just shows you that alot of them where getting away with it before that. :P

Yea its just a lil sad that people that have the skills to make hacks (normally not the user) will sell it out, it would rather be more use in joining a group 2 and get modding 2 help the game out but they dont and they wast their time making stupid hax for people who are noobs and scared 2 get skill the original way
really GET SOME SKILLS and get off the Gay hax is what PB and EA should be enforcing but they arent doing much you said that there is a ban list (right like that will do much)
there are many many different ways of getting around that (i know cus i had a *buddy* that used hacks and told me all of this)

I banned a hacker from my server yesterday... But overall, I have probably only seen 3 Hackers. Two of them were using obvious (unlimited Arty PLUS invisible name) but yesterdays was funny. He was sitting the in back of PAC Base on Gibraltar (I was watching him via commander screen) headshotting people on the ramp at harbor. Which is totally impossible, due to fog :p

Sounds like maybe your not seeing them all, rather just the ones that are obvious. Sometimes it's hard to catch people hacking.. when they are smart about it. Most people I would think would NOT want to be caught hacking, and would at least make some attempt at trying to not make it be obvious... but then some people don't have much common sense and those are probably the one's you've caught.

Of course, this is certainly not to imply that "everyone" is hacking.... by no means... just that sometimes it can be hard to tell for sure one way or the other.... funny thing is the admins have the "best" ways to check... as it's much harder for a player on the opposite team to check.... the admins can follow the players, or even see through thier eyes... or even take PB screen shots to see if anything wierd shows up..... none of which the players can do. And often the admins just completely dismiss somebody yelling about a hacker... often because I guess they are tired of people crying wolf.... and yes, I KNOW that happens often too. But is that a good reason to dismiss them all? I don't think so... if I ran a server, and somebody yelled "hacker!" I'd take a quick look, and if anything set off a red flag that maybe they where right, I'd take a closer look....

                Here's my take...

I've been a CS:S server admin for about three years now. I very rarely play anymore, but used to play a lot and have been playing since about CS 1.3. I have seen ****loads of cheaters in that game, personally banned hundreds. The cheating is so rife that in the end I stopped 'playing' because me and the other admins were spending 75% of our time dealing with cheaters. We would demand decent proof; so for example if someone was suspected of a wall/radar hack one of us would go and hide in a really obscure part of the map whilst the other admins specced the suspect come and find them. We nailed so many. Aimbotters and no-recoil hacks just take a lot of experience to detect, at least the subtle ones do. The easiest cheaters to spot were the newb ones but there were many more that took lots of time watching for a slip up that gave them away.

One interesting thing I used to do was when someone was banned for suspected cheating I would run their SteamID through the hlxstats VAC banlist periodically and a large number did end up VAC banned. This was good was because it vindicated some admin decisions that were challenged not only by the banned players but also by fellow clan members. Unfortunately, the clan members who most often disagreed were those who never played games like CS:S. They mainly played only 1942 mods like Desert Combat. They just couldn't comprehend that cheating could be such a problem in other games, which brings me onto my main point...

By and large, cheating in the Battlefield games is almost non-existent compared to stuff like Counter-Strike. In about 350 hours of playing 2142, I have only been killed once by someone I was sure was cheating. If this was CS, it would be in the hundreds for sure. For the record, on FoB I was assault with the Baur. I could see an enemy sniper proned about 90m away judging by the rifle sights. He spun around whilst remaining prone and instantly headshotted me not even taking time to aim. I know an aimbot when I see one and this was it. But other than that no other cheats. A few commander hacks maybe, but that's it.

If this was CS, it would be in the hundreds for sure.

I agree with you... but that doesn't mean that the cheaters aren't there... and that also doesn't mean thier numbers/frequency are growing.... I never said BF2142 is so far gone that it's as bad as CS... or even near it.... I just don't want to see it turn into that.

Not that i'm a General or an expert but...

I've just returned to 2142 after a 2 month break and I would have to say i've noticed less of the weird stuff and:

                    -more available local servers (Australia),
                    -an increase in good teamplay,
-and squads assaulting the Titan again!

                    :salute:

everyone always say they know wan aimbot when they see one but most fo the time the reality is that they know when they cant take being killed so they call hacks on someone

i've played 1150 hours, i have almost every award, and i don't think i've ever once played against a cheater.

if you think someone is cheating, they are probably just good. even if they are cheating, so what? just change tactics.

As I have always said. Hacking doesnt make people experts. Just better than the crap they were. Obviously great players would not buy hacks they wouldn't need to lol.

I don't want to see it turn into that either. However, I think we need to be careful that we do not give new players the impresion that they are "everywhere." Then you have to deal with the new players crying hack and cheat all the time, starting kick votes, etc... The other thing is that instead of sticking with the game and working to improve so they can become one of the better players, they will quit, thinking that there is no point since there are hackers everywhere, and move on to some other game, leaving us with an ever shrinking player base.

Ok, I agree with that.... BUT, when I think that maybe (note I said maybe, and not "omg he's a hacker for sure") somebody might be cheating, and I try to mention it to an admin or whoever I can get to check, they usually tell me to shut up and warn me to stop bringing it up, and usually do nothing about it.... and if I continue (EVEN in private converstation with them) to talk about it, I would usually wind up getting kicked or banned. Seriously, I understand that some admins get sick of everyone crying "hack" sometimes... I've seen people crying hack that I've outright LAUGHED at because I KNEW that person could not have been in any way cheating..... but to completely ignore EVERYONE because of the people crying wolf, that's just messed up.

See that's why I've gotten a bad rep in the past, because I've actively (or have in the past... kinda gave up trying at this point) tried to stop cheaters... and that didn't mean that I thought everyone was cheating... but there where times I wasn't sure... and SIMPLY asking for somebody to check automatcially defaulted me to "noob" status reguardless of the validity of anything I've based it on. Have I accused people falsely before? Yes, probably by accident, but certainly I wasn't "sure" for sure.... and basically I just wanted somebody to check... because they HAD done things to set off red flags... but red flags alone do not meritt that somebody is cheating (nor should they be punished as such simply for that).... I certainly know that.

Lately, I've all but given up trying to point out cheats, or possible cheats.... people just get way to damn touchy and jump to conclusions about me.... so unless it's increadiblity obvious, I don't even bother, not even a private message to the admins... I'm tried of getting flak for it.

Bottom line is I certainly do not think "everyone" is cheating... or even any large majority... but I do know they are there... and I'd rather NOT have them here if I could do something about it. It cheapens the game.... I play this game to have fun... not deal with somebodies shortcomings with sportsmanship.

The way myself, and most of my admins handle things like that, is if someone brings up that someone is hacking, the first thing I do is look at the score board. If there is nothing out of the ordinary, I'll check with guys in TS with me and VOIP in my squad to ask if they notice anything strange. If nothing looks off, I will dismiss it. Remember, the only real proof you have is either watching the BR file after the round, time consuming, or alt-tabbing out of the game, logging into the web interface for the server, and finding the PB SS of the player, or taking a PB SS and then waiting a couple of minutes for it to go through and then looking at it. All of that is time consuming and most of us admins would rather be playing.

So, unless something looks really off, you won't get much response from an admin. If you think someone is hacking, whisper to the admin once, don't type it into global chat, and if they decide to pursue it great, if not, then let it go.

I can say that of all the PB SS that I have looked at, I have found 3 that were hacking, not a really productive use of my time. Since we changed server providers a couple months ago we have had a combined 30,992 different players on our 5 servers. Of those, 31 have been busted for hacking, 3 were from SS we submitted to PB and the other 28 were caught by PB on our servers. That turns out to be 0.1% of the players that have been caught hacking. I'm not saying that they were all caught, I'm sure there are ones that have and will continue to get away with it. However, I am not, and most admins won't, leave the round for 5-10 minutes to check on a suspected hack unless there is substantial proof in the game.
