But using it is probably a sign of being old

    Thanks for the info.

Well, I tried TF2 last night. Anyone out there who likes BF because it's not a twitch/loner heaven will probably not like TF2.

It feels more 'real' than Unreal and Quake, even with the cartoon style, but it still doesn't come close to the solid/realistic feel of BF.

For me, it's ok as a bit of light relief, but doesn't beat BF for gameplay. TF2 is to BF2142 as chequers/draughts is to chess. Sorta.

Also I found the classes to be too... weird. Too extreme. From one situation to another, one matchup to another, either useless or overpowered.
Tried medic for a while - useful as a healer (obviously) but hopeless weapons, so pretty boring. The Demoman - explosives or explosives? The Scout - zoom in and run circles with a shotgun over and over. The Heavy - catch someone in the open at medium range or you're useless. The Soldier - blast yourself up to a part of the map noone can get to (as annoying as bunnyhoppers) and rocket folks until a sniper notices you. The Sniper - as mentioned elsewhere, the only one that feels vaguely 'normal'. The Engineer - build an overpowered gun emplacement and watch the kills rack up. Exciting.

I should say, I only played for an hour or two and I will give it more of a go, but so far not so good. I'd rather play BF2142. You can go it alone and pretend it's a deathmatch if you want or you can go tactics and teamwork and support others.

Well I am downloading it now, so we will see.
I never got around to play HL2 anyway, so I am sure to get value for my money.

The spy does NOT have complete invisiblity... you can still see him cloaked... it's just hard to notice him... they have a "sheen" sort of you can see.
I had not played TFC until after playing TF2. But, the Spy in TF2 has complete invisibility while not moving. If he moves there is a slight sheen, but otherwise you can't see him.

There is no way this is Battlefield, you have that right. This is a different kind of shooter.

The 'weird' class experience you might be having is that this game forces you to team up with other players to cover your weaknesses and for you to add your advantages to their actions. Thus, if you don't work with your teammates, you'll not have a lot of fun.

I'm sorry your experience was somehow "boring" because I have not been bored once. Instead, I have to force myself to stop playing to do RL stuff...

Yea im not sure what that is either and have not played it yet.

I probably wont either. But Portal is DEFO worth a play. Best SP game for a long time.

Thats exactly how I feel. Iv been playing some games of it inbetween Half-Life 2, Quake Wars and Portal. I havent really had time yet to spend any sizable amount of time on it.

Seriously marche mate (dogfighters here) its a great game and although its hard to choose between playing ET and this. I find playing a heated enemy territory battle and then calming it down with TF2 is a great combo.

It is a freebie meant to entice you to purchase Peggle Deluxe. Essentially, it is a lobber/bouncer kind of game. I play it a little when I only have a few minutes. It can be entertaining, but it is only a fancy version of Breakout with a twist. Still, it is pretty fun.

Yeah, reminds me of a blend of Breakout with Pachinko, sort of. Definitely the kind of bubble-gum game you play when you've only got a little bit of down time between RL issues or feel like gaming but know you don't have the energy for 2142 or TF2.

Man, Portal is a challenge. I keep trying to play late at night when my thinking is a little muddled... not a good idea!

Give it time, on the face of it class A, beats class C, but class B beats class etc, stone paper and sissors style.

For example a pyro-medic uber rush is sometimes far more effective than the standard heavy medic combo.

It's never going to have the intracrasies of BF but it wasn't designed to.
