Holy crap. I have to revise my earlier thought... When I went back to BF2 and was kicking a$$, that was on a city map, than an armor map. Last night, my buddies were doing BF2, so I joined 'em.

One of those maps with a bomber and a fighter came up, and reminded me of the least fun gaming hours you can ever have. Couldn't get 100 yards in a vehicle without being obliterated by a bomb, missile, or chopper missile. Try hoofing it, and the chopper's cannon shreds you. On the rare occasions you're the first one in capping a flag, well you accept that by turning a flag neutral you have signed your death warrant as choppers and jets converge on your location. (You can keep your head down to hide from them, but then the artillery finds you...)
    :cussing:

That took care of my BF2 fix for a while.

Anyone noticed that BF2 explosions and gun sounds are way better than BF2142 in most cases?

And reality rears its ugly head again

If you havent tried it, I suggest you get the POE2 mod for BF2.
I had given up on BF2 in favour of this when BF2142 came out.

POE2 is BF2 like it should have been. Or at least that is how I remember it, it has been a while.

POE2 is fun and boring at the same time.. I still hate the jets there but the SA7 Grail makes it MUCH MORE balanced. Bf2 should have been like POE2. It has all the stuff we want. More guns, weird guns, cool guns, cool vehicles, cool maps, and SILENCERS. and HEADSHOT IS KILL!

I've heard lots of good things about it- prolly only reason I hadn't tried it yet was I hadn;t gotten to the magic 50K point where you have all the guns unlocked. I may have to give it a go. Or see if I can talk my BF2 leaning buddies into compromising on SF, which doesn't have nearly the airborne pwnage.

This is exactly what happened to me, too! I was like, "BF2 rocks!" Then, a new map loaded and my story changed to, "How the 'ell does one defeat the aircraft when they don't fly very well? Oh, yeah, that's why I stopped playing BF2..."

I've been having fun lately playing DC Final (for BF1942) on Zero Point Games server. That mod is teh sex and I feel like a pr0n star while playing it! These dudes have added server-side 'extensions' to the mod which are awesome!

              Point Of Existence ftw! :salute:

I love the Fallen map as it reminds me of my Army experience running around in the woods looking for tangos... POE2 is BF2++.

I just played the Highway Tampa map for BF2 and I forgot how fun the armor battles were. I dunno, they just seem so much more exciting and fun than 2142 armor battles.

I used to love Battlefield 2. Was with the game since the beginning, and when Infantry Only came out, it killed the game for me... mostly because I was one of the few who liked playing 24/7 Karkand with all the vehicles still in the game. It got pretty boring just running around as infantry the whole time. Took all the spice out of the action.
Even worse when all the Karkand servers turned into IO. It was my favorite map too.

I enjoy BF2142 much more now, because it's far more balanced in almost everything, the unlock system is much more interesting, there's no infantry only and I find a lot more teamwork happening in this game (at least more so compared to the pub servers of BF2). My only problem is that the maps aren't as cool as in BF2 (although Northern Strike's maps are actually pretty cool).

I got tired of POE2 pretty fast. There are two kinds of maps in POE2: vehicle whore and Fallen/Orel. There's just no middle ground (well, I guess that one mountain map, but that's it). It also didn't help that they were only two well-populated servers and I had crap ping in both of them.

Fair enough, not everybody has the same taste.
But the price is very reasonable, so it doesn't hurt to try it.
Btw. I think they continuously add maps, so maybe you should give it a recheck?

Anytime you try out a new mod I suggest getting a couple play buddies together to check it out with you. Primarily so you can just create a local server if you cant find a decent on to jump into and then so that you have a safety net of people who are learning with you......typically play level in mods has less deviation than in normal pub games.

Clans mate, clans! I play BF2 now with my 2142 clanmates and we are having a great time. 2142 is so unbelievably noob friendly (Voss, Krylov, Pk rockets... you know), while BF2 INFANTRY is fun for us. We hate jet maps. Jets are ridiculously overpowered. BF2 jet maps can be fixed by adding a new kit to the Class. Anti air... SMG, pistol, knife and an SA7 Grail (I believe thats why they call it). That would fix it. I find infantry much more interesing as inf is about skill instead of sitting in an APC obliverating infantry o.0

^The SA7 Grail is used by the Chinese. NATO forces use the FIM 92 Stinger. Some kind of dedicated anti-air class in BF2 would certianly have been warranted considering how big the air aspect of the game is. I find it ironic that the first time we get a dedicated anti-air soldier in the BF series is on a game where the air element has been cut down to almost nothing.

But honestly, in BF2's defense, I never felt like jets were the ownage machines that so many have complained they were. Granted, I too have bore witness to fighter-jockies racking up GODLY scores from flying, but almost without fail their skill was helped GREATLY by three things.

                              1) People would NEVER use the anti-air missle launchers- even if it's for nothing else than to harass air jockies. A pilot trying to dodge missles is a pilot NOT bombing your squad mates.

                              2) Friendly air jockies weren't doing their jobs and shooting down (or at least trying to shoot down) enemy fighters. Instead, they're too busy crashing, ramming choppers, or just flying around doing nothing.

                              3) No one would assault air fields to prevent the jets from taking off in the first place! Personally I feel that is a critical element of the game that alot of people completely miss. I often went so far as to grab an ACP- or a boat as an Anti Tank- take it out to sea where the carrier is and blow the planes to hell as they spawned before they got a chance to take off- sparing my team from airbourn misery for a few moments longer. Those extra few minutes without enemy jets can win games.

Did doing those things completely stop bombing runs? Oh, hell no, but it made it difficult enough to pull off that said bombings were fairly managable. At least in the rounds I've played where people lived up to doing the three things I've stated. Only on a handfull of occasions have I seen jets completely dominate the map in the way many people claim they do on a routine basis. :salute:

I'm pretty sure that you can do that with the wrench. IIRC any mine you use the wrench on is put into your inventory unless you have the max number of mines already.
