Do you fella intentionally as in, play very Conservatively and carefully to preserve your kd? Whatever it is?
Indirectly, yes. It has nothing to do with KDR, however, only with me hating dying because, well, it means I'm no longer playing, heh. I play conservatively when it benefits me and my team, though, because if I see I'm alone just outside an enemy flag I won't go charging in solo, I'll hang back on the fringe and wait for backup. Sometimes I'll pick at the enemies running out of the base, especially if they're alone, but other times I'll just let them go until my reinforcments arrive, then I'll go in with them and help them take the flag. I still get smeared in most gunfights, however, regardless of which weapon I'm using (the M16 is a bit better at giving me a chance tho, heh) so I mostly just serve as the bait/decoy/distraction/cannon fodder/bullet magnet/duck hunting dog that gets all the enemies to ignore my teammates and focus on me while my teammates mop them up. I help my teammates kdrs as much as possible.
This game is strange, usually i struggle to hold an FPS kd ratio above 1 unless i snipe alot however im not sure if im just getting good performance and pings in games but i just seem to be naturally good at staying alive. This however will probably change once people start getting better machine and used to the game.
i would be pretty much 1:1 except i had this one very flukish round where i killed like 40 something guys with my noob tube. every tube shot was a direct hit it was unbelievable.
I am almost certain that there is some unknown factor that influence hit detection.
Usually I can kill OK with the Scar-L, I would say that 1 on 1 I win at least as often as I lose. But then suddenly there are rounds where I lose every single encounter. I don't suck that bad.
Another example of the strangeness is when I knifed a medic yesterday, and yet he still managed to kill me too.
I know there is travel time for the bullets, but we were less than two meters apart.
I have never really cared about my K/D its not something that drives me to play a game like this never has.. Given I never really got into "CoDism" it gave me a break from the PC for a few years so coming back to BF refreshed :p . Personally I think that if you play on a PC/Console too much you start to get worse as opposed to getting better a short break usually resolves it for me.

was BF2 the one that started this whole K/D tracking and making it relevant?
I'm pretty sure other games had it in the past. Not detailed stats and ranks, but logged stats. UT2k4 comes to mind. And I think a Delta Force game or two had some kind of stats.
yea but nobody talked about the K/D in the UT days. it somehow became a big deal in BF2, imagine if DICE never listed the K/D stat category how different things would be.... there would be actually more teamplay, people willing to take more risks for objectives, to revive, and stop whoring vehicles so much.
