Prone wasn't the problem with dolphin diving, it was the instantaneous max accuracy you got that was the problem combined with funky hit reg. BF2142 never had that problem because your accuracy took a second or two to "zero."

While I'm not throwing a fit over it's lack of inclusion, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have liked to see it in the game. Having played the beta there are a lot of places that even if you crouch behind cover the top of your head is still sticking out. So there will be times you think you have cover and people still have a shot on you. There are also times when you need to just be able to drop to the ground quickly to avoid an attack.

I also find demize's comments a little strange. From my play time BC2 is a slower playing game than BF2. Being able to prone wouldn't affect the gameplay much at all. You cannot get away with many of the things in BC2 that you could in BF2. This may change a little in the PC version as you will have more precise controls, but with the generally greater lethality of the guns and the movement speed I observed, you have to be much more cautious and careful than BF2. BF2 was all about never letting the momentum up and overwhelming with speed of attack. Defenese was hard to do effectively in BF2 because to be still was to be dead. Defense seemed much easier in BC2; at least to me.

I agree painboy it would only add(compliment) to the game, maybe it because its a console title and they dont have room for a prone button on the hand controllers?how sad would that be for PC..........pls add prone to PC dice ffs

the more they take things away like prone and lean in PC fps games that previously had them, the more they become ADD style non-stop, non-thinking arena type fps games. tactical moves, which include moving around carefully instead of guns ablaze should include things like prone. pretty soon, these so called military games will turn into a Q3A or UT type games with modern military skins. just mindlessly running around spraying bullets, die, respawn, die, respawn, die... dunno about you guys but that gets old real quick for me.

Re: DICE's demize calls prone "crutch for campers"

yes, i really wanted them to add prone to the pc.
i think it is stupid, something i already saw a lot of times in videos, in small walls or covers ur able to cover but ur head will allways be showing, and even when ur seeing that someone is shooting at you, you will keep ur head showing up and u will die, u just cant cover sometimes decently.

Ah, yes the dolhin dive in bf2. the new patch has removed a lot from the dolphin diving out there, because now u have mutch more recoil when u dolphin dive and after u dolphin dive, such as in bf2142. so many times it is mutch more effective to crouch than to prone, and they managed to put prone in bf2142 and there arent dolphin divers in bf2142 such has in 2.Anyway now, the ones in bf2 that keep dolphin diving, if u instead of staying tall or dolphin dive too,and crouch instead, u will have mutch more chance to kill him first and easly.

The dolphin diving "spam" thing, is not a excuse for the unexistance of prone, synce they can add a lot of recoil when u dolphin dive, and it takes sometime to aim, just like in real life and not like it was in bf2, and they can force u to take more time to stand up, if u just dolphin dived a few secs ago.
so there wont be dolphindivers just in front of u, and u wont see so mutch dolphindivers, bunnyhoppers, dolphindivers, bunnyhoppers, dolphindiv ers,bunnyhoppers......

said this before but considering a tank can now see thru walls the poor grunt like me could use prone for more shelter inside a building(considering they can level the place too)pls think of the poor infantry at the bottom of the food chain Dice!

yes this spray and pray type crap is a Q3 or UT idea!it doesnt belong!

I can see why prone didn't make into BC2, but I disagree what Minmaster said. Bf will never be a war simulator. BF is a careful balance between realism and aracedy feel to it. The Rock, paper, scissors way of playing is key to battlefield. Making the game more realistic would take that away from BF, since in real life, that would never happen.

I hope though to see prone in BF3. A well designed prone system, which cannot be exploited and is useful to the game.

yes, exactly, BF is not that slow ARMA or Operation flash point, but it is not that fast placed Cod.
it is kynda a mix, wich gives us realism and the awsomeness of vehicles, and still not as slow has arma or operation flashpoint would be, because there is constant battle and you can keep spaming in there and teamwork.

Re: DICE's demize calls prone "crutch for campers"

As an avid Q3A, UT99 and 2k4, now QL player, I can guarantee that these games feature as much strategy as any shooter out there.
But then again, the rule nowadays is that something can only be strategic if there is an animation for it or it looks cinematic, am I right?

I agree with you though. While Quake and Unreal are both phenomenal series, Battlefield should not strive to be either of those.
Then again, we don't know yet if BC2 will be spray-and-pray or mindless, since we haven't played final version yet. From what I've seen it looks pretty tactical and deep still.
Blindly focussing on the absense of prone is pretty mindless though.. I mean, it worked in 1942 and BF2(142) because the game was simply designed with prone in mind. If BC2's maps feature nearly no terrain where going prone would actually help you much, it wouldn't make the game any more strategic or deep; it would make it cluttered with unnecessary functions added in for the sake of it.

I trust DICE to deliver a game that matches their vision for BC2. If I happen not to like that vision, I should probably wait for BF3, but there's no point in trying to change this game series into a different one.

Okay first, you can just replace any post Rambo makes with this.

okay. so all new concepts about fps suck and I will hate any idea that DICE comes up with just becuz the old games were better and more hardcore. oh and I am also mis informed and my grammar induces feelings of un-intelligence.
Now back to being totally on topic.

UT and Quake take more skill to master than just about any other FPS (I am so awful at them...) and take quick tactical and strategic decisions to be good at. Most FPS are much more straightforward and simply require point and click... which most people can't do very good anyway.

You'll be happy to know then that BC2 is much more "tactical" than BF2 as far as I can tell. Which is why I thought the comment about prone was so strange. You have to be much more deliberate in my experience with moving in BC2. It's not just the way things move, a lot of it I think is that the buildings can be entered much more so than BF2. Take Karkand or Sharqui from BF2, while are both urban maps they actually have very limited structures. Most of the map is just streets and alleyways with a limited number of lanes. So it's relatively easy to run down a street only needing to be careful of the intersections. But now imagine every building can be entered. Suddenly you can't just run down the street only focused on what's in front of you. You have to be mindful of enemy possibly in the buildings all around you. This alone slows things down a great deal.

Also other things like no UAV or scan means you don't always know what's around the corner. I found myself taking pauses I never would have in BF2 to look for any signs of enemy before moving on.

To sum up, this game plays nothing like Quake, UT, or the like.

Include prone, leave out prone, it doesn't bother me. I catch bullets just as easily whether I'm running, standing or lying on the ground in a foxhole with armor plating over my head :banghead: I may as well ask the modders to skin me with a bulls-eye on my back :ahhhhh:
