Re: My thoughts on 1.5 thus far

I don't think they would totally balance the air side because too many people would cry and rage quit

I would hate battlefield if it didn't have the all vehicle aspect, might as well play something as mindless and noobtastic as COD but imo the air side should be more balanced

as it stands I don't mind planes that much, but I haven't played a map with the cluster bomb planes since I have come back (odd) but from other maps the mobile AA works great and the stingers do a good job as well

Solo choppering still gets very annoying, don't think a guy should be able to seat switch while flying at all, or if he does the thing plummets to the floor like the 2142 gunship, I know "pr0" heli pilots would moan at such a change but imo it should definetly happen.

Was on a server the other day where one of the rules was no soloing, get a gunner, it was bloody perfect I swear

That's what frustrates me; they're too afraid to make major (and needed) changes so I'm either left with the choice of getting raped by oneshotmobiles on normal servers or playing infantry only karkand =/

What I don't understand either is why in most maps with aircraft there's either only one AA vehicle for the entire map or none at all =/

Flying with some moron who thinks it's a good idea to cap flags in a chopper is even more annoying. I love it when they hover the chopper two feet over a flag looking in only one direction. Go to Dragon Valley and have a US chopper pilot go straight for the Vista flag only to get you killed a multitude of ways including the J-10, enemy chopper, TOW, SRAW, C4. There's a reason people want to solo, it's noob *** pilots that do things like that. Other noobish things are 1) not listening to spotting, 2) not keeping the nose up/down for a good shot, 3) not being able to do basic evading to avoid jets/choppers, 4) not knowing where the AA are located, 5) doesn't seem to hear the enemy chopper's tv missile exploding near you.

I don't know why you think soloing is annoying unless you think they should share. OK, I understand that but I also understand that I don't want to share with someone that doesn't really understand how to effectively fly a chopper so I think soloing is good if you can't find a good pilot. Two people using VOIP is better but that's rarely the case.

yer there are quite a few maps that could do with some AA placement tweaking, I always thought Wake should have a tunguska spawn at the airfield

it's not really about sharing, tbh I agree that there are a lot of nutcases out there who don't have a clue but you come across them everywhere

when some guy in a helo at 50 billion feet just rains insta kill missiles down on everything the other team can't do ****, I know that guy must be awesome at clicking on tanks but for one person to have that much dominance?

Even with a ******* in the co pilot seat it at least retains some form of balance

but like I said nobody will be pleased, soloing probably wouldn't be much of a problem if the heli plummeted like a brick 2142 style or was harder to control after the seat switch etc

I used to solo in the early days of BF2 but it was frankly boring and I worked out long ago that it was one of the things broken with the game, when I convinced some of my clan mates into getting the game and I had a decent copilot it was spectacular. After playing 2142 and soloing in that gunship I didn't think there was anything wrong with that its just not the same in BF2, its overpowered if you ask me.

I guess its not really annoyance, but I have looked at balance issues in games before (game design modules for you hehehe) and soloing makes one guy more or less into god, rarely is there the map design or AA placement to counter it, the long range of the missiles and that when seat switching the heli soars higher into the sky. The guy in the armour gets a sound and then hes dead, tries to find a stinger location, either out of range or the heli can move off very easily, its very hard to even make a dent in the soloing helicopter unless there are planes around and even then you would preferably want 2 of them working on one chopper to take it down.

It's bad for gameplay, balance and enjoyment if you ask me, the soloing guy probably loves it but sometimes you got to put up with the occasional smacktard in the copilot seat for an all round better game.

            Don`t diss CoD son.

If I ever play BF2 these days, it`s to jihad-jeep, ram jets into other jets or helis and just be a general arsehole. 1.5 did make infantry and a few other minor things better but that`s like spraying deodorant over a piece of sh*t- it won`t smell anymore, but it`s still a piece of sh*t.

To jets? Actually yes, hand held stingers and hand held SAMs can shoot down pretty much any modern jet in BF2 (Besides the F35 perhaps?). To helicopters? The same hand held AA poses a huge threat to helicopters that is completely devoid in BF2.

I did like BC better, and there wasn't even any hand held AA...

I personally never go above 300m when soloing. More often than not, I fly as low as 2-man crews or lower. People who hide in the altitude are noobs.

sorry but insulting CoD, more accurately CoD4 onward (first 2 CoDs heck yeeeh) is something that has to be done

I don't understand why people think the "one hit wonder" TV missile is going to be any different with two players in a helicopter: it's going to destroy you in one shot either way, so why do you get so pissy about soloers? Perhaps it's the increased efficiency that annoys you, but do keep in mind that we solo specifically because we would be (ironically) crippled otherwise.

Bad players aren't as noticeable in APCs and Tanks, and your time is short-lived on the ground anyway so individual skill is really not as much of a concern... but jets and helicopters require precision work and awareness in order to remain airborne, hence why we don't waste our time with people who haven't even mastered the basics.

Doesn't mean air power has to completely dominate.

And on a more serious note, it's been what... four years? There's no excuse for not having mastered the basic concepts by now.

I mean, take a map like gulf of oman. 4 jets (1 a bomber), 2 attack helicopters and 3 transports.

How many AA are there on the map? 0 (Yes there are stationary AA but everyone - pilot or not - knows where they are and aren't exactly very effective)

They're quite effective now, so most nub pilots/teams will get their butts kicked after the first set of flares. The truly good soloers/pilots will still give you a hard time, I'm afraid...
