When I first enter the game I am struck by how long it simply takes before i'm behind the wheel of a car. I have to go through multiple videos, menus, occasionally people talking, it's frustrating.

Secondly, I have a fairly good PC, but even this struggles to keep a good FPS. To be fair, I went straight to all high, 8x AA and at 1920x1080. It stuttered so bad it made the game unplayable, the same at 4x AA. Not to be rude, but the graphics aren't really that much better than those of GRID, yet it runs far, far worse. I believe some optimisation is sorely needed to make this game. Even on low, the stuttering is awful, making what should be a fluid race, unplayable.

Penultimate point is sounds. It's a mixed bag. There are some really good effects, but then you get the tyre screech which is like listening to someone punch cats with bondage gags in their mouth.

Lastly. I am in the first race of the career and there is no quit button. I mean, seriously, what?
There isn't some command line thing to disable those opening videos before the main menu?

And looking at your system specs, it seems like your rig should smoke mine in this game's performance. Well, not smoke but it should perform better. I'm able to run it at 1920x1080 on all high without any issues. I never noticed any slowdown or stuttering in the demo.

Fraps (saving the footage to a different HD)

And Zips it's a problem with ATI cards having bad performance, Nvidia cards are fine.

I might have to buy Fraps one of these days then. I still just use the feature limited trial.

And yeah, I hadn't seen the second page of replies when I made that one above to Alex. GG me.

Playing it some more today, I am LOVING it.

Trying to race the bugatti veyron along the nordsclheife, with about 13 other veyrons on the narrow roads is really incredible.

I am also getting better at drifting, it really is just about practice and control.

Might buy it soon if a patch or CCC comes out to help with ATI cards performace

At least this is what I would try first, as it's the same for various other games...

I don't have this game, but @ Alex98uk - you should be able to find the .bik movie files in the NFS:S install folders, then just move all of them into a seperate folder, Example: just create a backup/ folder inside the folder where the .bik files are, and put all of them in there, except the loading screen related ones... else you'll just get a black screen and won't know how long it'll take before everything is fully loaded...

I got rid of it already. Gets boring after a while. Especially when the cars don't handle very well.

Re: Official Need for Speed Shift Thread

The cars do have good handling, all you have to do is tweak the settings a littlebit. Finally a NFS game when you can't grind the walls in every corner and you can't do a 180 turn at 200km/h

BTW, the sound in this game is AWSOME!

At first I was trying to play it like Grid (and failed), but then I started to play it like Rfactor and then the game made sense It feels nice for it not to be too realistic.

Using a wheel when properly set up is really nice :) (using the same as Hellsent)

Graphics are not enough for me to make my jaw drop (running 1680x1050 max) but they are more than adequate, (Grid gives me more of an atmosphere tbh).

Ai seems fine tho a lil dirty but that just gives me an excuse to be dirty hehe.

The only thing Im not liking is the UI, it's meh

                          • What specific ATI card are you using?
                          • What ATI driver version is installed?
                          • What are your graphic settings set to (display resolution, car detail, shadow detail, track detail, motion blur, texture resolution etc)? Are you using Anti-Aliasing?

PhysX only works with NVIDIA and users with ATI cards should not be affected by it.
