That's the problem right there, you shouldn't disallow people to shoot while in air, you should disallow them to bunnyhop in the first place. For example in the CoD games, very few complains about shooting while jumping, but that's because you lose your momentum while doing so.

Dolphin diving too - don't allow people to prone in midair and the problem is solved.

That would work too, as long as you still get a major accuracy penalty for jumping. And I honestly think the midair prone thing isn't too much of a problem in 2142.

I just hope they get rid of the damn lay and spray animation. I like the jumping = no shooting rule that already exists.

They should make blackhawks with the cables hanging off (like they were originally going to be in BF2), though I can see some retards abusing this by flying really close to the ground and scraping the passengers off on to trees etc :/

the ability to rappel out of a helicopter would be awesome

but yes I can imagine, Alpha Squad getting into a blackhawk with "l337pIL0t", being mere feet from the ground during rappelling and then getting pancaked because the guy can't hover lol

it would be good nonetheless, should let you fire while rapelling as well

You cannot fire while rappelling. This isnt an action movie. As for rapelling, you could have an autohover that needs to be set in order to drop the lines.

Auto hover would leave you wide open to enemy attack, I think passengers should be able to push a button when at a certain height and with a 2-4 second rappel time they should be sweet. Anything beyond rappel height will be the old jump and chute.

The auto hover would work as long as you could break away from it if need be but kinda takes the fun away from the pilot =\

yes it would leave you wide open, a risk you take, im sure we've all seen black hawk down. Id like to see no parachutes personally, force choppers to either let guys rappel, or land

They didn't have J-10's swooping back and forth in Black Hawk down. It needs to be quick.

half of battlefield is the action! (the rest being respawn )

wouldn't necessarily have to be accurate firing, maybe only sidearms firing, maybe even restrict it to *gasp a class ability! Like special ops etc

but rapelling would be cool, it would be good for co-operative squads who want to use the transport but would lead to hilarious scenes if a group of randomers tried it

64 players is enough, especially if the game has ways to encourage many players to be in the same area (like not having too many control points). Focus on other aspects of the game instead.

Remove the tk punish system - I think that became an even bigger problem than tk:s (getting punished for something that was the others guys fault? That's even worse than beking tK:ed)

Like many others have mentioned - introduce a missileman, that has both AT and AA rockets. Planes and helos were allowed to dominate BF2 to an unreasonable extent - the balance was much better in DC, where the combat between air and ground was as much fun no matter which side you were on - both had a chance.

JayZ wrote that "The missileman could choose between SRAW, Javelin (TV guided), or Stinger (short range heatseeking AA)". There are several things I don't agree with there.

First, you shouldn't have to specialize on AA. There should be plenty of AA everywhere that could be used when and where it is needed (just like in DC) => every Missileman should have at least one AA weapon (but maybe there could be an AA class that has more ammo). Secondly, I want rockets - not missiles. There should be no missiles of any kind in the game - or to be more exact, there should be no homing missiles (I'll take gameplay over realism any day). They should either be completely dumb, just flying in the direction you were aiming or they should be manually guided. Homing missiles are almost as bad as the console game auto-aim - I don't want to hit something just because I happened to aim in it's general direction.

Planes should not get target indicators for ground targets - they (we) should be forced to fly low to spot the targets, just like in DC.

Pilot class??? NOOOO! Don't introduce classes for specific vehicles - part of the Battlefield charm is that you, in a few moments, can do everything from driving an aircraft carrier to pure infantry combat. It's the ability to adapt that makes it fun. At least make it optional so it wouldn't be required in game types like CTF.

CTF - a properly implemented CTF could be awesome. Properly implemented = don't encourage defending, but attacking. When 95 % of a team is just camping at their own flag, with every weapon known to man pointed at the flag, it quickly becomes boring.

Remove most of the UAV/scan options or at least introduce more ways to avoid detection - it should be possible to flank the enemy undetected.

Player controlled artillery. There should be no way for anyone to kill anything without taking a risk - without exposing yourself.

Helos should work like in DC - the rudder should do +- to the rotation speed. That gave a much greater feel of momentum and made them a &ยค&% more fun to fly.

Day/night cycles + dynamic weather - that would add a lot of variation to the maps. Can't really decide if it should change during the course of the game or be set to a specific value at the start of the game.

Like many have said before, fix the hitboxes. For me that includes environment objects as well (not sure if that's actually a hitbox issues though) - I hate it when I aim above a nearby rock/branch/etc and hit it instead of my actual target.

My sentiments exactly. With more players, map size must increase in proportion. Somewhere you cross the optimal line and lose focus of the core role of the game which is to provide constant, exciting fire fights.

A move to bigger maps and more players may lose this, I feel some maps are in fact a little too large already for Inf Only such as Jalalabad. Project Reality is a good example of the effect of using a bigger map, there is a lot less action (not that this is a negative point for PR in anyway), but for an arcade shooter such as BF2/3, it wouldn't work.

This however, is not a great idea. It's frustrating being punished after someone runs half the map just to be blown apart by your grenade, but autokicking due to negative score is a really useful feature when admins are not about to manually do it.

It would be worse to be in a server with a player on -500 points than to pick up a few negative points for maybe, 1-2 team kills.

I believe the poor hitboxes are down to bastardisation of the code during the many patches BF2 has endured. This is why reverting to the demo or 1.0, you don't feel these affects. I agree, it does need to be sorted.

The environmental problems are down to collision meshes I believe, they really do need to be fixed. Nothing worse than driving into a wood box with a tank and glitching for about 5 seconds and then being shot out of it like a cannon :p

First and formost bring back naval combat in a big way. I really miss this from the bf series since 1942.

More classes e.g mortar, recon, assault enigineers and defense engineers, divers for maps with water.

Tone down air power, a lot. The more destructive an aircraft then the more teamwork should be required - For the most destructive they should be multi-manned.

Remove name tags from enemy players.

Create some maps that more tightly focus the battles(fewer flags), so it makes you really feel your playing with 64 or 80 players.

No commander artillery.Make artillery a teamwork task - sniper to spot target and arty to fire like in 1942.

Create incentives to being in a cohesive squad ( maybe small radial firepower/health bonus )

                                Re: The BF3 Speculation/Wishes Thread

Good suggestions BLNKY. I agree with all but two, the first of which Alex mentioned regarding the TK punish system. While it's frustrating to have some knobgobbler run into your line of fire and punish you, it's even worse being griefed without a means of getting rid of the griefer other than hoping an admin kicks him. Only once in all my time playing have I incurred enough TK punishes to get kicked, and even then it was a full 64-man Sharqi match where one of my lonewolf teammates had the red tag bug.

The other is the AA missiles. If you've seen the speed of the jets in BF2, you know that any AA would HAVE to be smart, because you're never going to hit a jet in flight with a dumbfire rocket anymore than you already could with a SRAW, and even if it was wire-guided you'd lose sight of the jet before it would reach or you would be unable to control the missile with enough precision at the speed necessary to actually catch and hit the jet in the first place. The only other option would be to make them POV, like the TV missiles are now, and I'm sure you wouldn't want infantry walking around with wire-guided POV missiles because then you'd have people using them as sniper rifles against other infantry or jeeps. Any portable AA with the capability to deal with the jets would have to be smart-fire.
