Imagine a rocket launcher that could fire TV missiles... that would solve the aircraft problems =D

Only once in all my time playing have I incurred enough TK punishes to get kicked, and even then it was a full 64-man Sharqi match where one of my lonewolf teammates had the red tag bug.

The other is the AA missiles. If you've seen the speed of the jets in BF2, you know that any AA would HAVE to be smart, because you're never going to hit a jet in flight with a dumbfire rocket anymore than you already could with a SRAW, and even if it was wire-guided you'd lose sight of the jet before it would reach or you would be unable to control the missile with enough precision at the speed necessary to actually catch and hit the jet in the first place. The only other option would be to make them POV, like the TV missiles are now, and I'm sure you wouldn't want infantry walking around with wire-guided POV missiles because then you'd have people using them as sniper rifles against other infantry or jeeps. Any portable AA with the capability to deal with the jets would have to be smart-fire.
I agree with the second part about the AA missiles, there is no way you're gonna have a good chance at hitting a jet with a dumbfire missile, even if you fire 10 of them.

I disagree, 21CW has pickup dumfire stingers, and the work very very very well agasint all aircraft, all aircraft are at least twice as fast then vanilla BF2. Tehy do work, ask some of the forum hos you see.

I (reluctantly) agree that you have a point. However, most other games don't have this feature, and at least in my experience, it hasn't been that big a problem. I guess tk punish simply made a bad first impression on me when (during one of my first BF2 games) an entire (swimming) squad asked for a pick up, I drove my boat there and very slowly drifted into them. It was one of those early versions where you died if a vehicle got within 20 feet of you. They died, punished, I was kicked and I haven't spoken to tk punish ever since.

Hmm...it's all coming back to me. ARRGG!! I've changed my mind. When I wrote the previous section I was young and dumb. You don't have a point. At all. Tk punish sucks. Period.

Hmm...or introduce the "What what Jesus do?" medal (that I believe someone in these forums came up with a long time ago) that you can only get if you never punish, then introduce "Jesus-only" servers for us whiners

He he 8) That almost makes me hope that they'll implement elastic objects that you could drive into and then bounce back..Kung Fu Panda style.

For BF2-speeds, I agree that my preferred type of AA wouldn't work. ..however, in order to find any targets on the ground without target indicators (which I want removed), planes would have to fly a lot slower. I think DC got it exactly right.

A server could still auto kick for negative points even without the teamkill punish system. Or am I misunderstanding your point?

Haven't decided if this is a dumb idea yet but...could we introduce some kind of "respawn" feature (without having to kill yourself)? I guess one of the reasons I like maps like Karkand is that I know that I can spawn somewhere and then be in combat after a few seconds. On other maps, I might have to travel for ages, before the action starts....and I might get unlucky, and be stranded at a CP far from the action without any vehicles nearby so I have to run for 5 days...and eat my squad mates to survive.... Would be nice if you could just select respawn and then, after x seconds (same delay as when you spawn after you have died - this shouldn't be a quick way to e.g. get out of combat), I would respawn at the new location (but without any changes to my health etc - I was just transported to another location).

                  Re: The BF3 Speculation/Wishes Thread

Dumb-fire stinger = rocket. Like an RPG. I'd imagine it would be really fast, long ranged and having a large explosive radius. There is place for this 'Flak-burster' RPG and the Stinger. As well all the other forms of AA fire. I'm sure situations can be found for every system, so variety is a good thing.

As to homing missiles, its balancing depends entirely apon implementation. Homing missiles (Stinger and air-to-air combat) does not automatically mean zero effort required. BF2 is certainly proof for this statement.
The Javelin I suggested was manually guided, like the attack choppers.

I never suggested any restriction on vehicle access based on kit choice. My opinion was that the Pilot class be the sole carrier of parachutes. So if regular infantry chose to fly an aircraft they couldn't bail and survive.
This would make direct chopper insertions all the more interesting. Even rapelling could become viable. Players would use others forms of traversing structure heights like grappling hooks, zip lines and ladder sliding, and not just parachuting. Setting up ambushes, traps and explosives on decending stairwells would be truely effective as well. The result being an interesting gameplay experience.

Of course, it would mean no more paratrooping from aircraft, but I'm sure something could be thought up to make this possible.

I'll agree that it in many cases takes skill to put those weapons to good use. However, for some reason I (personally) just get very little satisfaction from it. It feels more like the game called a rand() function, then used the returned value to decide if my homing missile should hit or miss. Like buying a lottery ticket. When compared to a long, perfectly aimed one-shot-one-kill with a SMAW against a Hind in DC..well...let's just say I'm a lot more abnoxious after that.

Hmm...knowing that, I like your suggestion a lot better than before....maybe this should only be used in some game modes/maps though.

How about if you spawn on the carrier or inside an aircraft (via squad leader or perhaps a mobile spawn point like the transports in BF2142) you are allotted one parachute regardless of your class, but spawning at a land base or in a ground vehicle you'd have to be a pilot class to get one.

Could work...but I do like the gameplay always having access to a parachute allows for - not just when I'm jumping out of a perfectly good airplane but also when e.g. jumping down from a tall building. I play BF for the "whohoooo!" factor and..well...having a parachute adds to that factor.

Another idea: at the moment, I pretty much don't care which side wins and I feel no loyalty to either side...and the fact that you can be team-switched during a round makes me care even less. Would the game benefit from stronger ties between the player and the team? Maybe if I could select to be on e.g. the US side for a week, I'll only play as the US during that period and I'll get "US Points" which allow me to unlock US unlocks...and there would be benefits to me if, at the end of the week, when looking at all the games played, the US side has reached certain objectives. This could cause all kinds of problem (including with auto-balance) but still...it would be nice to care.

Actually you could be onto something there, with the BF2142 transports.

A variation of the POD launcher from BF2142. Instead of launching a POD, the transport aircraft would eject you from your vehicle slot with a parachute.

To prevent exploitation, none of these transport aircraft should retain the 'free spawning system' for the entire team as in BF2142. Squad leader spawning is sufficient and only crewman slots are able to eject, such as those in the fuselage.

                          @BLNKY
Yea I can relate to that, it is definitely thrilling. I just don't know how we could retain a parachute without stifling innovation elsewhere.

                            My wishlist:

                            *10-50 years in the future.
                            *Russians
*Better infantry gameplay (copy cod4). That means no insta proning, uber-laser wielding-medic-supersoldier fa**otry that is BF2.
*A new gamemode for gods sake.
                            *Gulf Of Oman
*Better physics. I want things to feel and look heavy and act like they got some weight to them. In BF2 I get the feeling everything is made out of paper.

But knowing DICE, I bet it will be the same old crappy inf gameplay, a single gamemode and a bucket full of bugs.

Easier said than done. When you take into account the engine and 95th percentile gamers computer/connection, it may prove infeasible.
