    Re: The BF3 Speculation/Wishes Thread

If they get the movement right, "bunny hopping" won't be a problem.

In order to get over fences, small rocks or similar DICE made the jump height very high, which means that you can flip around, prone in midair and do all of these pretty silly (but to be fair rather fun) ways of dodging. That was why they removed the ability to shoot in midair, people would just jump around all day long and be very hard to hit.

In CoD for example you can hurdle most small fences and such in your way so the jumping height doesn't need to be as high - you also come to a stop after jumping so there's not that much of an advantage to it other than surprising someone, which makes it balanced.

As another example, you can jump and shoot in CS too, but you lose all your accuracy and also momentum. You can keep jumping after you've done the first jump, but you will not get anywhere unlike BF.

one thing to add about the jumps that would help stop excessive jumping, is that it should impact stamina

a soldier with all his kit wouldn't be able to jump loads of times, other classes etc would have longer sprint times because they are lighter loaded as well (unlocks could add to weight as well perhaps?)

I think get rid of the commander role and put commander assets under the command of the squad leads and give the squad leads a seperate voip channel so they can coordinate together

Agreed, from my post in the BF3 commander thread:

Things like this would be extremely fun to see ingame, because people like to specialize and you can pick from the things you want to get a kit that's very personal.

For example, especially in 2142 there were lots of people that specialized at collecting dogtags, using actual weapons that goes pew pew is rare. These people would maybe strip down on everything to be able to jump and dodge as much as possible, maybe only carrying a knife and a pistol.

A squad could have 5 light loadout guys with assualt rifles, and share medpacks and reviving between them, and then there's a support guy that's fully loaded with ammo packs, explosives and anti-tank missiles. Maybe not even carrying a rifle at all?

But now I'm dreaming again. :wee:

I just wanna be able to shoot someone and kill them in the appropriate amount of bullets, rather then dump entire clips into people and watch them prance around. Also more buildings to go inside would be good...

I wouldn't mind having a battlefield game with decent hitreg. With my experience with BFBC1 the new engine fixes most of that, but it is a bit insane in the current PC BF games.

I agree with the fact that it is too easy to dominate in a vehicle if you are too good at it. Matter of fact, I am sure many people have stopped playing air maps alltogether because they keep getting bombed by jets every 2 seconds. But vehicle-specific servers could possibly be a nice addition for someone who wants to practice against other live opponents without other factors disrupting him/her. Perhaps this mode wouldn't be ranked and would have different rules of play. Just a thought.

Actually, maybe server admins should have the freedom of choosing vehicle re-spawn times in order to regulate the gameplay a little. Normally, I wouldn't be in favor of giving server admins more power and more control. But in this case, it could help the user find servers that are tailored to their preference.

For example, you can set your 'jet respawn' filter to "over 5 minutes". That would filter out any servers which allow jets to respawn in under 5 minutes.

                      I wouldn't mind this.

10-20 years into the future, maybe have upgraded versions of what already exists in military today.

                        Re: The BF3 Speculation/Wishes Thread

Jump-shooting or bunny-hopping or whatever else you wish to call it was really only a problem in BF2 for a few reasons:

                        1) The shotguns didn't lose much accuracy while jumping compared to the other guns, which gave shotgunners (especially DAO users) a huge advantage over the other classes in CQC, beyond the already-present advantage of having a semi-auto shotgun with 12 rounds.

                        2) The n00bt00b users that would jump and explode a toobnade at their feet, killing everyone around them but leaving them untouched. This is the biggest reason I believe that DICE removed jump-shooting in BF2.

                        3) With hitreg being so arse, even hitting a jumper square in the chest with a volley of gunfire would somehow cause it to miss. In the same vein...

                        4) People could go prone in midair, and have instant max accuracy while flipping and rolling and flying all over the place. Imagine trying to grab one specific hair on a cat that has just fallen into the bathtub and you have a good idea of what it's like trying to score a hit on someone doing these 'moves'. Removing jumpshooting mitigated this somewhat, but the real underlying factor was instaprone accuracy.

So, they're more than welcome to put jumpshooting back in if they 1) make sure shotguns are affected as well, 2) make underbarrel GLs (assuming they exist) kill the jumper if they shoot them at their feet, 3) fix the hitreg like Freakboy alluded to, and 4) don't put in any instaprone accuracy falderal.

                          Re: The BF3 Speculation/Wishes Thread

                          Lets break this down..

                          1) The shotguns didn't lose much accuracy while jumping compared to the other guns, which gave shotgunners (especially DAO users) a huge advantage over the other classes in CQC, beyond the already-present advantage of having a semi-auto shotgun with 12 rounds.
Make the shotgun recoil such that the player couldnt fire/aim in any use ful direction for a couple of seconds. Perhaps make the classes weight really large so that they couldnt jump very high at all.

                          2) The n00bt00b users that would jump and explode a toobnade at their feet, killing everyone around them but leaving them untouched. This is the biggest reason I believe that DICE removed jump-shooting in BF2.
As I think MrChris mentioned, the player should have some really serious blowback, where perhaps theres even some sort of actual ragdoll on the player where they get blown on to their back and are incapacitated for about 5 seconds, with nearly all their health lost.

                          3) With hitreg being so arse, even hitting a jumper square in the chest with a volley of gunfire would somehow cause it to miss. In the same vein...
They should be able to overcome that problem by this day and age. If theyre going to fix anything in BF3 it would surely be the hitboxes/lag issues.

Make some sort of diving motion, where the player (yet again) cant fire for a second as they hit the ground and have to regather themselves. As for prone-shooting-in midair, just make it wildly inaccurate,

                          + your points here.

I hope DICE are listening ¬_¬

Why do you want jumpshots back? Like prone diving, I think it should be a defensive measure. If people want to bunnyhop, let them do it without being able to fire.

I think 2142 solved the diving issue. People still dive while firing sometimes, but they're much easier to kill than in BF2.
