yeh battlefield was never really about realism, it had the realistic elements to a degree but at its heart it put you into a battle gave you a crapload of cool toys and told you to go beat the enemy over the head with it
realism aspects can be used sometimes to improve the fairness of gameplay I suppose, such as prone delays etc otherwise Battlefield accels in its arcade balance because of the speed and flow of gameplay
