Same, most of the time I just leave defence to the town watch, am playing on medium settings (Battle and campaign) so this can be a bit hard at some points, but I can handle it.

I have won twice. Its kinda hard to get a game going and when you start to win people tend to disconnect before the game finishes.

I love the SP so much I havent learned the ins and outs of MP.

When I played online the armies were randomly generated. You couldn't do all mortars because calvary would move too fast for mortars to be effective against them and would get pwned. I would think even going uphill the calvary would be too fast. I dont know though, havent played more than maybe 7 times and only two complete battles.

The second battle I won, the guy thought he would camp the mountain top. I sent my calvary around and to the rear while his calvary was at the other peak. I sent my army up toward his calvary in a formation that would discourage his charge. My calvary finally made it to his right flank and attacked his canons. He gave up his ridge and charged my calvary with everything he had. I then took the ridge with my army, thus taking the high ground, and marched into his lines wiping him out. I lost all my calvary, but I gained the high ground and won the battle.

              Re: Total War series

In any battle, i tend to like mass bayonet charges, about 15 regiments of line charging to one section of their line, once it has broken (and it will) i then start advance and fire down the lines sorta like Their line>-------|<my unit. That is assuming that the enemy army hasnt moved, or moves to counter my charge. which they usually do, then its down to my cannons to make up the difference.

I hate using cavalry, but i love light infantry and riflemen, very useful.

For those getting the white screen of death when they move ships, I may have stumbled on the fix.

I got a steam client update the other day and it hosed it. I repaired the client by downloading the steam client from steampowered.com and reinstalling. It gave a repair option. Ever since I did that, I have been able to use my ships again.

Playing online is fun if you got an good enemy. I hate mortars though, which is why they are banned in a lot of games! :p

So do Total War games ever come down in price? The lowest I can find in the UK is £26.99 including P&P any better offers?

Mmmm MP I find is very dry in Empire, as has been said, mortars kinda kill the game if used, 1 ship navel battles between 6 friends is always fun, but the land battles to me do not have the tactical depth the other games had.
