    Re: Total War series

I was always ok with my economy in M2TW, had taxes at the highest rate they could go without pissing off my empire. Slowly built up a lot of money, didn't construct/recruit everything one one turn, tended to try and only have one war going at a time.

And about the French, I always went for a pre-emptive strike and took most of their cities closest to the one you start with in your possession. Crippled them, although they have a massive army in one of their remaining cities which I will have to take at some point.

      Re: Total War series

In MTW2 as GB (on the KGCM mod) I would typically keep Caen well defended, build up my economy at home and then create an army to destroy Scotland and Ireland with

its not easy to do, high taxation etc but I could always keep the French at bay in Caen if I failed to buy their favour

        Re: Total War series

Playing M2TW:Kingdom as Norman England. I thought it should be a cakewalk. How wrong I am. The first thing to happen is that Irish are rioting against me, while the Irish king sending his troops to blitz me. The Welsh king seems to be coordinating with Irish and send an army deep into English territory. They killed one English prince in the front line, and penetrated deep into Oxford area, before the British king can concentrate an army and destroy the intruding army. The Welsh King also sent two other smaller armies to lay siege on Cardiff and the other town near northern border with Wales. Troops guarding Cardiff managed to destroy the Welsh Army during the assault, but only won barely. Worse is that I am now broke. I spend all the initial money into roads and land clearance. Eventually, I lost most of the Ireland except Trim, where I fended off Irish attempt to capture there twice while most of Ireland Expeditionary Army is laying siege on Dublin. After the intruding army of Welsh was annihilated, the I send another price to capture now empty fort, and followed by a blitz on Welsh capital. The Welsh king is dead, and his people massacred. My economy is finally picking up, so that I can finally afford to retrain my troops.

At this point, I plan to annihilate Wales first, then conduct a war of attrition with Irish while slowly build up my economy to third level. Then I will send a real army with catapult to destroy every single Irish town. After that, I'll think whether or not to invade Scotland depending on whether or not they choose to ally with me.

Yea, its a tough campaign, every time I was attempting to expand I would be put on the defensive again. Getting Wales first is the best Idea I guess as it acts as a buffer from the Irish and then you can somewhat fight the scots with not too much going on back down on the flank.

Strange enough for me. The Barron Alliance didn't emerge upon me. Probably because Edward I was killed by Welsh blitz early in the game. The Kingdom of Wales is a hard nut to crack. I don't know where they get all they money from, but they kept coming with brigade size armies. I finally finished them after almost 20 years of bloody war. Kingdom of Ireland is going to get screwed very soon.

I have a feeling that these will be like be like the Alexander expansion for Rome.

They need to release expansion containing these specialized campaigns:

                    Italian wars (1400-1500)
                    Thirty-Year war (1608-1638)
Dutch Wars (sorry, forgot time period)
English Civil war (the Cromwell stuff)
                    Opium Wars (1830-1860)
                    19th Century Indian campaign
Texas independence, Mexican war and American Civil War (1830-1870)

Tune the campaign to 1 months per round and those smaller campaign will be great fun.

I want Rome 2 so badly

sort of do what Rome did but expand upon it, give the Greeks etc as much love as the Romans got, and some of the stuff that the Extended Greek Mod or Europa put in

Napoleon Total War is a sequel to Empire not an expansion, the only expansion that is out now is lame (for 4$ you get elite units : P)

yes but it still follows the age old revolution-evolution cycle that CA employ

and for the prices I have found it seems to be priced as an expansion/large expansion which is around 20-25 (£)

reasonable enough tbh, Napoleonic era is right up Empires tree

now if only the AI has the ability to kick my *** in this game consistently

5-10 more for Empire, although I payed 35 for the special edition, still around 30 now

I think I payed 25ish for Kingdoms, that was easily worth it

although for this I am a bit skeptical
