Hopefully it's just you because I can't imagine that there are that many people out there that can't tell the difference between a sanctioned promotional event and someone modifying game files that were never intended to be modified in the first place, so that they could gain an advantage. If Activision had wanted us to have access to all the weapons unlocks from day one we would all have them.

I know you seem to think it's unfair that people like myself were able to spend the extra money to have these unlocks, however as if it needs to be pointed out yet again the difference between what you did and the folks that preordered from Game Stop or purchased the collector’s edition, is that we did not break the rules to get them.

It drives me crazy when people try to twist things around to justify their own unethical behavior. If you have a problem with the special promotions because you think they are unfair, then I suggest you take that up with Activision because despite how you feel about it nothing you say can justify your actions. I am not going to debate semantics with you on this, the bottom-line as far as I am concerned is that you cheated. It doesn’t matter if it fits your definition of a hack or not it’s still cheating.

So paying for sanctioned advantages that you pay for and tweaking every element of the game to give you that higher frame rate is fair, while not paying for the extra unlocks isn't...hmmm. Mighty high morals that we have there friend. I'm judging you :p

I bought the deluxe edition, and feel like I got shafted, because I expected that day-1 advantage. I was able to get a pre-order code that doesn't seem to unlock the M1A1 for me, so all I got was the FG42 which lasted me about as long as took me to get the BAR and then the M1. But still I bought it for the advantage that I thought it would give me and I got screwed royally.

I have to dig further into my OS now to retrieve game info to share it between my notebook and my desktop. If you have the UAC on while you installed COD4, you'll have noticed that the game in stats are hidden even more, in a virtual programs directory thats twice hidden. This company is being beyond lazy when it comes to your stats, any other company puts them nicely in your My Documents or even the nice Game Saves directory that Vista gives you now.

Don't forget in the new Battlefield Heroes game your going to be able to pay for ranks and unlocks, while the game itself is free. I think this whole rank unlock system is getting out of hand. You do under stand that some of these companies, *cough* EA *cough*, are planning on making their FPS pay to play and free with rank restrictions. You can play the new EA games online, but if you wanna rank up and unlock cool stuff that will give you an advantage you'll need to pay, so they can give you more patches, support the game longer and a better all around gaming experience (in theory, maybe not in practice). The community is going to fight this tooth and nail though.

This is the age old problem. Community approved tweaks and mods aren't hacks. But if for whatever reason even if the tweaks have no real impact on the game it's a hack. Unlocking of perks and guns doesn't particularly change play even on the pub servers but this guy gets roasted for it. He's not aim botting, he's not stripping the textures out, he's not enabling clipping or anything that unlevels play. He's just taking a box lunch of kit and turning it into a smorgasbord. So what?

On the flip side, take the league approved pro mods that make the game very different than the out of the box experience for all involved. These are totally OK even though the only real purpose it to homogenize the game for players who might otherwise spend little time in the game. Can't have the competition squads actually work for their weapons and perks, can we. That's not a hack, it's a comp mod. It's hypocritical and the great part is that nobody in the community really cares so long as they are standing with the mob pointing and shouting, "hack!"

That's not similar to what Patton did. Those are legitimate console commands that you are allowed to use ingame, so no. While I'm not whining over what Patton did, what he did was "wrong" in the technical sense, what you did wasn't.

I am actually editing my config. You could say I am hacking. You can change the number of corpses you see in MP on the ground - do you see bullet holes.

All of these things give me an advantage - but am I hacking the game? Is this cheating?

Hmmm...pay $30 to $40 bucks more and pre order the game, get first day advantage; double XP and special guns (at least what those ppl expected, didn't mean they delivered LOL). The FG42 and the M1A1 are friggen awesome. Just me or can someone else see hypocrisy here?

I really dont see the problem, the second i get to level 65 fairly i will just get a "hack" to unlock the other slots for weapons, its not really an advantage any more than it is a convenience.

Yep, I Pre-Ordered but through Best Buy so while everyone else at Level 1 were using FG42's and M1A1's, I was there stuck with stock weapons. Isn't that giving people an unfair advantage, all because they preordered at Gamestop or spent more money on the expensive edition? Doesn't seem right to me.

Thats like having a raffle contest, everyone donates $5, than another guy donates $25 and they say "We're gonna have him win it all because he donated more". That's not accepted in todays society, never was yet this whole Double XP and High Weapons immediately unlocked basically claim it is okay.

Than people say, "Well it is just a game" so then people who do the rank glitch in turn would say, "Well, it's just a game".

Nothing makes sense anymore.

Regardless, as an update, I completely erased my Lvl 65 account now, I have (2) account (One at level 31, the other at level 30)

If the advantage is earned fairly then fine you deserve it, however modifying game files and the use of downloaded talent as I like to call is cheating no matter how you try to justify your actions.

Cheat. Just because it's not an aimbot or 3rd party file running doesn't mean it's fair.

Whoever did that and plays on a PB, public server is a cheat.

Once i have reached level 65 i will probably use a profile download or however you do it to unlock all 10 prestige and get the extra unlock spaces.

I dont really care what anyone "thinks".

I honestly don't see the problem with using a modified file. Hell, it's not like BF2 where your stats actually meant something (where it takes hundreds upon hundreds of hours to reach higher ranks) and it ends up just being a pain to wait for that weapon you want to practice with.
I see why some of you would call it cheating, but I'd hardly consider it that. Sure, it meets the technical definition, but spending 10 hours getting to max rank is just, to me, a waste of time and I'd rather be playing with the guns I want than playing to get a rank that nearly every player will have in a few weeks time.

Actually no. Not at all, would've made more sense leaving this private but when it seeped out into the BFE community, a few people got attacked for it in the wrong places that could ruin reputations simply being labeled hackers.

The moderators felt the BFE board was too childish to hold an intelligent discussion about it, and it was, so I posted it here for the general Call of Duty community to see and then judge.

I found myself playing much more yesterday than I normally would to earn rank. I can't get it out of me, I like having sexy stats. (Running a 2 K/D atm :salute:)

Fun server ain't it? I think it is the best CTF server I have found. You got any other good ones?

Actually have no clue since I just picked up the game a few days ago. Followed some friends into the server who ended up leaving before the end of the game, recognized a few of the names from this thread.

But yes, it is cheap, it is unsportsmanlike and by the end of the 1st page I have been using my other account again. Reputation Tarnished? I am sad and disappointed you think that, I came out and gave myself up, especially when nobody would find out seeing how I only played in 2 different servers. x_x
