Well some of them are actually, but the ones i like to use arent. My main beef was with the 2142 sniper rifles. Cant stand artificial sway, and theirs was way over the top.

Made almost no difference, it went from completely useless to just terrible. That was one of the other things i liked about BF2. You didnt have to get unlocks for your weapons for them to be effective. The unlocks in BF2 arent upgrades for the weapons, which is the worst kind of unlock imo. You just get different ones, and to be honest in most cases they arent much better then they default ones. Thats a good thing!

I actually really dislike all unlocks, and would have prefered none.

I invite all of you to come over and look at Call of Duty: Battle for Europe. It's the Official Cod4 tourney, and there are regularly scheduled matches with up to 30 hours/week of gameplay.

I gave 2142 a good open minded chance but i didnt like it. I found the weapons too weak and way to inaccurate.

Strange thing is that was my first impression of the 2142 weapons too. But honest you just need to get used to it. Only some training and they are deadly accurate way more than BF2 weapons (you need to use the scope for anything but point-blank tho). And never try to prone and fire like you are used to from BF2 it makes you miss anything smaller than a Titan use crouch instead.
SMG's: Don't expect to hit much over long distances - Spray away and kill em in close combat.
LMG's: To prevent the BF2 run and gun behavior those get the more accurate the longer you firing. So a moving support is pretty much dead meat but if you set yourself up and let them come to you you'll rock.
Shotgun: A supports bread and butter in close combat and the biggest fear of any Assault guy :).
AR's: Accurate on short and long distances when fired in bursts.
Sniper Rifles: Boom headshot :) Needs some skill to conquer the sway tho. The zoom is just too sweet.

Nope hes right, thats how they did it. It was like that in beta testing. They did it because of complaints that bf2 lmgs were being used to run and gun and BF2 players could dive to the ground sooner than they could and shoot them.

Thats why i didnt buy 2142, nerfed weapons to placate players who want to play paintball. 2142 crowd will probably like BF:heroes, has similar weapons! :P

I know, but a game doesn't have to make sense to be awesome.

Infact I actually like that you don't have any unlocks in 2142 to begin with. Right, you might not be as effective as a Brigadier General but you have no problem killing because the stock weapons are actually better than the unlocks in many cases (mmm Moretti)

They messed up with a few unlocks though, like extended sprint and recovery which should have been there in the beginning. Same with sniper zoom :p

Basically BF2142 is in a sense a more nerfed game overall, but that's not a bad thing. Keeping your crosshairs on target for more than half a sec takes skill and the weapons are a lot more accurate than in BF2 (scoped) which evens it out.

hmm i find 2142 rifles much more accurate and easier to kill with than BF2 (that is unless you prone dive insta kill). in 2142, all you have to learn is to crouch n' shoot and zoom and shoot and weapons are crazy deadly. none of that silly prone diving is necessary; you do that in 2142 and you will be dead meat.

More accurate indeed. Although I'm not sure it's easier to kill with the 2142 rifles - the BF2 ones have a lot higher damage (+ high deviation though), an example is the L85A1 which can kill in one lucky headshot

One of the biggest gripes BF2 players seem to have with 2142 is that the weapons does a whole less damage. I personally like it that way, but to each his own.
