Are they? Its a well established fact that if a weapons officer is downed, the pilot can take over his functions if the need arises, and vice versa. So that would mean that those "dim witted idiots" are actually incorrect.

Like i said earlier, if the copilot somehow gets hurt/killed, the pilot will get back to base ASAP instead of continuing fighting.

And what does doctrine have to do with whether or not it's possible for the pilot or gunner to perform both functions? Since this is a game, they allow for the possibility that players aren't bound by doctrine.
Either person can perform both functions if necessary. Just because they (real-world pilots) aren't supposed to doesn't make it any less viable in the game.
The U.S. doesn't employ victim-detonated mines anymore, due to doctrine. Does that stop snipers and engineers from spamming them in the game? U.S. forces would never put C4 on a vehicle and ram it into another vehicle, but it doesn't stop jihad-jeepers from having their fun. I'm also fairly certain that hitting a human with a MBT round is against some kind of ROE, too...

Basically, any server that prohibits soloing in choppers because it isn't "realistic" should also prohibit: mines (all kinds), jihad jeeping, shooting people with tanks, and using parachutes to jump from anything less that 150feet (because we all know that isn't realistic, either.)

This is called PROTOCOL, which has nothing to do with the pilots, copilots or choppers abilities, which you are arguing.

Because it's the only non-emotional argument being used by anti-soloers, and it happens to be completely wrong.

Sorry dude, you lose. No matter how you look at it, I'm right.

No it's not, there are probably dozens of scenarios and reasons where going solo is detrimental to the team effort and not being solo would be preferable. Including, but not limited to...
...a skilled gunner waiting with no ride.
              ...helping others learn.
              ...following the server rules.
              ...dropping off a squad leader.
              ...etc.
I'm not anti soloing, there are right and wrong times for it.

                This is getting laughable.

Skilled gunner wants to ride? Where's the f*cking problem? The vast majority of soloers prefer flying alone because most players suck. If a competent pilot or gunner comes along, we welcome him with open arms.

Helping others learn? Get. The. F*ck. Out. Of. Here. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about or what even attempting this entails. I won't waste my time expounding on this because it's clear to anyone remotely decent in a chopper.

Server rules? That's the reason for our campaign: we want to change these absurd rules.

Dropping off an SL? Use a jet, boat or ... here's a f*cking thought... A TRANSPORT HELICOPTER. Save for very few tactical reasons in clan matches, a squad leader has no business using the attack helicopter as his taxi.

I have nothing against you, Lazza... but please, stick to things you know, ok?

Whoa settle down Sloi. You said the only argument against soloing was realism. And it's not, simple. Take teaching others for example, granted it's not your duty, but if your team is not under a lot of pressure, and you're skilled enough to dodge the jets etc, then why not let someone hone their gunning skills if they're keen to have a go. Why not, will it upset your stats?

I'll stick to things I know alright. Like I know I got a lot of gratitude and thanks last time I practiced what I preached, and spent a ranked round teaching a nub to gun.

If such tasks are simply too far below you to even contemplate then good luck with your karma.

Because it's not my f*cking job to get you or anyone else up to speed. Do like everybody else and either learn in smaller servers or do it in SP/Local Servers. It has nothing to do with my stats and everything to do with ruining my enjoyment.

Great, but he still sucks. Big difference between knowing to click your TV around and actually hitting targets. I guess it doesn't matter to you though, since you're just looking for the chubby you get from teaching someone to TV while your team is losing its most important asset.

Well if you're going to be completely serious about it then yes they could learn first in SP. However they'll learn much quicker if actually taught.

Maybe he still sucks, maybe he sucks less. I'd say that going from not knowing there is a TV missile to destroying vehicles and AA with it is a decent learning step myself. We all get our "chubbies" in different ways, but as I already indicated I wouldn't be doing it if the team couldn't afford it ("carry" the noob, as we all do, like it or not).

                            ^^Hahaha.

Fact: There is little difference, if any, especially in a pub server, between a good soloer and a good chopper team.

Fact: You're mad if you think any old noob is going to learn to be an even remotely effective gunner in one round, no matter how good their teacher is.

Funny thing is though, these debates about soloing are of no consequence; I'll solo all the f-u-c-k I want and there's not a damn thing anybody can do about it.

That's how I used to think. Your tune changes rather quickly when your pool of servers drops from 100% down to 80%, and perhaps even lower: although I'm fairly convinced we'll never re-educate people on the topic of soloing, I still think we should try.

For what it's worth, I still solo everywhere I go unless someone with kick/ban power complains, at which point I either disconnect or pretend not to solo: choosing your shots ninja style becomes a new game entirely!

Got nothing against it. That tactic is not for me tho...

I consider myself a skilled chopper pilot.
I consider myself a crappy gunner. (but sometimes do amazing things)

When I have a gunner that roxorz there is...

                                Rare low Flying.
                                No talking.
                                Lots of high flying.
                                Pilot picks the targets.
Pilot counts the gunner msl's. (duh)
After the pilot has seen the gunner shoot he can turn to aquire a new target!
Gunner uses "Scout Shots" (you can spot with the tv msl)

Two pros are better than a pro. (but vs each other its 50/50)
(the key is the scout msl's)
