It's a borderline engine exploit technically, so admins should be able to allow/disallow soloing at their own discretion (don't even say that it was intended or DICE chose not to change it, there are way too many other imbalances still left to make an argument for that). If you are loner on a pub without any pilots you trust, just play on another server that does allow it. Simple compromise really. I don't see why you soloing fanboys make such a big fuss about this every time a thread pops up about it. All it ever does is turn into the same argument/locked thread. That being said, I will solo from time to time if no one is around and the server allows (so its not like I think soloing should be universally banned or anything), but I much prefer to have a friend/clanmate fly for me.

Re: I have changed my mind! Solo rules!

People like to throw the "exploit" term around, but the reality is that pilots and gunners in real attack helicopters have access to both functions in case something happens to either one, so there is a basis in reality for soloing. The helicopter wouldn't auto-rotate, however...

Additionally, I would like to remind you that soloing has been practically eliminated from all servers, save for a very few... and all based on whim. It's sad that admins have so much power to mess with a game, but what can you do, eh?

As for the argument that DICE left it in? There are far too many "coincidences" for it to be a mere chance event. Still, I suppose it's debatable.

Erm... How ofted do we see pilots IRL who fly a chopter by themselves? Yes they have acces to eachothers functions, but should anything happend to pilot/copilot, the remaining guy would fly back to base ASAP. Ppl dont "solo" in chopters IRL my friend. Unless its a KA-50 then:p

          A mere technicality.

What they can do and what they actually do are two entirely different things. We've already established that save for a passing ressemblance, BF2 has no basis in reality, so you can't expect or force people to perform in a realistic manner simply because you believe they should.

Those who cant, b!tch, moan and bring up excuses.
Those who can, are being witch-hunted.

If anyone says chopper-soloing is an exploit, should call tank-seat-switching and car-seat-switching also an exploit.

The only difference is that youre not getting "pwned" so much by a FAV.

with regards to soloing, i would much rather fly with some of my regular copilots then solo, but if i have to get in with someone who shoots the MG at tanks, i just let them go on there own merry way. anyways, the only people that complain about soloing are the ones that dont know how to do it. end of story. What gets me also is these retarded servers that have tons of rules that make no sense and yet people keep going back to play on these servers. luckily there are still a few servers that have common sense rules.

                Kuuju?? What for?

I was in Iqaluit to start a PC business. It's in the hands of my partner now... I'd much rather be down here.

Re: I have changed my mind! Solo rules!

I'd guess that many server owners have made the no soloing rule because of tards. Pilots redlining gunners because they want to solo, or deliberately leaving wannabee gunners behind because they are low ranked or whatever.

I don't have a problem with players going solo, UNLESS somebody wants to gun. A good pilot and good gunner is always better than just a good pilot alone.

The problems start when you get a complete novice as a gunner. What I do is line them (gunners who I don't know) up on an easy target (transport helo or tank) and see what they do. If they obliterate the target with little fuss we're sorted and off I go, happily. If they miss a couple of easy shots I will avoid chopper duels, heading toward cover, friendly AA, or friendly jets when enemy choppers threaten. Then there's the real downers who are that bad that they do basically nothing. In this case I just land the chopper and do something else (even possibly take some other chopper alone).

I agree that a top solo pilot alone is better off without a crap gunner in their chopper. But with a bit of voice chat, or text messages you can help them learn and get the best out of them.

In my view any "No soloing" rules should only apply if somebody is asking to gun (requesting pickup etc) i.e. "No soloing if prospective gunner requesting pickup".

Yup, that's what we do on BBUK. If someone wants to go in the chopper, you must let them. Otherwise, solo away.

No. You cannot. Their best will simply not suffice, though I suppose what could be considered acceptable is relative to your own skill.

Trust me, I'm an authority when it comes to flying and gunning instruction, and I can assure you it's impossible to teach someone to perform either duties adequately in a fraction of the short time you have together.

Even if you could manage to get a willing player to cooperate, his skill would still prove rudimentary at best.

Although I agree with the main idea, I would like to add a clarification to it: if the same pilots/gunners repeatedly show their incompetence, it would be perfectly acceptable for a soloer to ignore their request for a seat and simply fly off.

Because a lot of dim witted idiots like to pull the "but IRL u cnt fly a choppa alone lulz" card. So its double the fun when you can beat them at their own limited realm.
