Jeez, you obviously didn't read the entire thread. Widescreen works perfectly in 1.5!
No, it does not.
I have been using the CMD line fix to get 1680x1050 for over a year, and i have tested this multiple times against the new "widescreen 1" fix and ingame widescreen resolution options, and they produce the EXACT same outcome.
All game menus and load screens, aswell as the onscreen HUD, are in 1024x768, and are streched to match the resolution your running at, this has NOT changed in 1.5, all 2D graphics are still in 4:3 ONLY.
Ingame widescreen has allways been achieved by cutting the top and bottom off the 4:3 image to achieve the correct display ratio of 16:10 or 16:9, this has been the case since the very beggining using the CMD line fix, and it is STILL the case now, extra FOV is NOT added to the left and right of the image like is the case with true widescreen support.
Weapon models are STILL bugged and incomplete for widescreen resolutions, no change has been made from how they have been from the very beggining using the CMD line fix. Equip a pilum and observe for yourself, when your view is bobing up and down, or you are turning around, the unfinished edges of the weapon model that you cannot see in a 4:3 aspect ratio become visable on the screen, not to mention when you zoom in, the scope overlay is also clearly only compatible with a 4:3 aspect ratio, as you can see the ground ahead of you ether side of it, not just though the circular scope in the middle.
ALL dice has done is add the most common widescreen resolutions to the ingame menu instead of us having to edit the command line, NO change has been made to the shoddy way the "widescreen" resolution is displayed, and we STILL have to manualy edit the command line with "widescreen 1" to enable the ingame resolutions anyway.
CONCLUSION:
Absolutely no tangible difference has been made in the area of widescreen support.

Hrm... if that's the case, then how do we explain serevalassassin's screenshots of the same scene in 1.4 and 15 (First post on 2nd page of this very thread) with extra FOV on both sides and top and bottom?
i still think that it should be true widescreen support caus aside from hacking someone that has a nice PHast cpu and video card that allow them to get 120 constant frames per second and superior hit detection i feel that is a pretty big advantage. more so than widescreen support
that's sooooo true. EA has said that it would give users an advantage, but faster pc's already have a MUCH bigger advantage. i have played on my buddies quad core pc & it is just unbelievably smoother than what i'm accustomed to. a better pc will put you one step ahead of the competition. so obviously EA can't control all hardware advantages. why not just create a true 1680x1050 or whatever other 16/9 & 16/10 ratios exist?
I see the extra visual information along the X-axis, too. IDK why folks keep saying it's not widescreen.
Oh well, what do I care? It looks great on my computer, so the nay-sayers can keep shouting from the rooftops...
I'll mention it one more time: I've got true widescreen support by appending "+widescreen 1" immediately after "+fullscreen 1" in the shortcut. Then, I went to my in-game video settings and chose my native resolution.
That's the last I'll say on it. Believe what you will.

I also see extra on the Y axis (look at the tree on the top and the FAV's shadow). Could it be that its just zoomed out then?

Only compared to what we're used to. Bear in mind what we're used to is NOT a widescreen picture at all. If it were just zoomed-out, we'd still be looking at a 4:3 ratio visual, and we're obviously not. :salute:

Granted, there could be some slight zoom difference. But, it doesn't negate the fact that I've got native widescreen without the weird parallax effect the "widescreen fixer" software generates.
That's what matters to me ... no more distortion at my monitor's native resolution. Shoot, the game wouldn't even run 1440x900 for me when I tried to force it via the shortcut. It works now. The rest, I really don't care about.

I dont know, i tried the exact same test multiple times in 1.4 with the CMD line edit against 1.5 with the new widescreen 1 edit, and for me they produce identical results, i tested it as carefully as possible by backing into a corner of an object and looking directly at another point, so both screenshots would be identical.
Sereva's screenshot shows it simply zoomed out, the aspect ratio and field of view is the same in both if i am not mistaken, its also a 3rd person view while in a vehicle, i tested first person on foot views.
hrm. I don't have the time or gumption to mess with 1.5 until it's final, but that does sound like the same kind of test I would do myself, but you see no difference? I'm assuming you did indeed pick a widescreen resolution in the set up options after starting the game with the widescreen 1 edit?
When I get home I'll take some screenshots to post what I'm seeing.
@ TrooperJac: That software changes the FOV and gives me a weird floating sensation while using it. It makes me feel a little tipsy...
I reported that to the author and he confirmed that he's received other feedback about that. He also explained that he was limited to what he could do without making substantial modifications to the game -- which would probably not be allowed.
What I see is that things behind objects move at an unnatural rate compared to what one might be used to. So, I suppose if you use that software for awhile, it might become "normal". Conversely, going back to a vanilla setting might be a little unsettling.
EDIT: I'm not sure I've explained that very well. My apologies.
Sadly, I'm doubting if it really works like I first thought.

How about trying 1.5 with a 4:3 res and then using 16:9. We should see a difference if widescreen actually works.
