I'd get a console if I had an HDTV. I abhor Live though because of the people that play it, so I'd probably get a PS3 for Gran Turismo/GTA.

I'd only consider buying a console if the online multiplayer was as good as the PC.

I'm talking about dedicated servers with 64+ player slots, lots of modding (UT3 for the PS3 is actually pretty good in that department) and FREEEE

Re: Buying a PS3. PC gaming dead.

PC gaming is dead? While Steam has 15 million active subscribers, X-fire has 8 million active subscribers, and World of Warcraft has 10 million active subscribers. Did I forget to mention over 26 million other assorted MMO subscribers spread out among over 100+ games from over 140 countries?

Online sales alone have far out-matched anything the NPD have produced regarding console sales, mostly because Console Gaming doesn't exist in developing countries, it's not even big in a good number of developed countries. PC gaming is big in Europe for the simple reason that it takes forever (six months to a year) for a good console game to be ported to PAL format and translated. While most PC games get translated as a Mod Project within the first few weeks of existence. Of course, whats the excuse for the UK, and Australia, huh? They seem to have to wait three months after the Americans get theirs.

The sad part about this whole PC gaming is dead bull, is the fact that the research firms claiming that PC gaming is dead are stuck in the past with the music and movie industries, so they aren't counting Online Sales, which is the medium in which most PC gamers seem to buy their games from. I bought my Orange Box from steam. I got Sins of a Solar Empire from Stardock Central. I got my Europa Univeralis III from Gamer's Gate. How about you? I do it because I'm sick of Gamestop and Walmart's crap selection, and piss poor service.

I shake my head when people even bring up the notion of PC gaming dying.

I'd just like to point out that the number of people that are subscribed to steam, x-fire, WoW, and the other assorted MMOs is 1.8 times that of the population of my country

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't COD4 made on console and then ported to PC?

You should read Alex post first, from the first word to the last. The term "dead" is being used in an entirely different context, one you might actually agree with.

As for population, all of my favourite COD4 servers are now mostly dead, even though just a few months ago, they were populated 24/7. The stats on steam users can be argued when whenever I log on, I rarely play. Its like Xfire.

Continuing on Alex idea, theres absolutely nothing out there for the average TBF2 goon, and theres even less out there for a guy like me, coming from SWAT and Rainbow 6 background. Considering that even the substitute drugs for me, like Rainbow Six Gaygas ports on PC are Ubisucks technological achievements and proof that you can indeed port a game that works AND is a resource hog of a tornado simulation program, you can get the general jist. At least, on the console, I wouldnt have to spend 12 hours fvcking through the .ini files, rewriting line of code in order to get the FPS up above the 20s.

In the last 3 years, how many bug free, completely satisfactory FPS PC games have been released? Two... How many BF2 killers? 4 + mods, how many of them successful or up to par? None. When was the last realistic tactical CQB FPS shooter released that wasnt a backwater studio experiment? In 2004.

And while in the meanwhile Ive enjoyed games of all types and kinds, the last game Ive sunk more than 1000 hours into, was released in 2005 and I havent actually played any game religiously since 2006 Fall. I think we can rule out the "me being grown up" explanation.

I spent most of the evening today, fixing up Rainbow Six Vegas, all while coming up with new realistic CQB shooter concepts. I didnt have to dream 3 years ago.
