Certainly :) I can feel any ping difference. For example, there is a difference between 20 and 50. Anything above >80 is usually not normally playable. Yes, you can play but it's not serious :)

but would we be playing seriously on this server? I thought it was supposed to be a pub serverOriginally posted by kiwiCertainly :) I can feel any ping difference. OK, maybe 'serious' is not the right word. Serious should probably go only for clanwars etc. But I don't enjoy playing with >80. I mean it is playable but I hate it and don't enjoy even on pub. No fun so to say :)Comment

I doubt MyIS would pay for it. If you check out the tourneys (such as 21CW and BFECoD), you would notice that the donations pay for the server. It's just not feasable to be hosting large player count servers (and yes, 32 does use a bit of resources, both bandwidth and server wise) for free.
If you indeed did pay for it, you would definitely get a much, much larger say in how it was run. I wouldn't have a problem with giving donators BF2CC access so long as they agreed to our administration policies. Any abuse means loss of access, period. No "kicking for 'my' chopper" or "'my' tank." After all, this server would presumably have TGN associated with it, and we do have a reputation to maintain. In all honesty, I'm not a fan of the principle "Pay for admin powers" as that usually leads to having abusive administrators, but it may be worth a shot, at least in the beginning.
Perhaps an elective process for some of the lesser admins would be nice? The mature, experienced people on here could either nominate themselves or someone else and the community would vote on it. That's how we did it on another community I was involved with, and it worked very well. We had a large, competent admin force which kept order nicely. It also kept the server populated almost 24/7.
As for where to send the donations and who would control said (PayPal I assume) account, I don't quite know yet. Also, we would need to determine who would have access to the server's Reactor (the MyIS server control program) login information. That's something which shouldn't be shared lightly, as it sets configuration files and can tinker with account settings and such.Comment

I know the "pay for admin" process isn't perfect, but a " One strike and you're out!" system may work quite well.If you indeed did pay for it, you would definitely get a much, much larger say in how it was run. If this is to be an official TGN server then maybe someone from MyIS should take that responsibility. In my opinion, they're the ones who aren't going to be tempted into abusing their position of power. As for where to send the donations and who would control said (PayPal I assume) account, I don't quite know yet. Makes sense.
32 looks good, and 40 could be a good upgrade if the server becomes popular.
As for admin, I doubt you'll have a problem with most of the contributors here. I'm a little biased, but fair. While we're discussing potential admin abuse, we should also talk about the rules we want implemented in the server.
I have no problem with "No uncap attacks/raping" or variations on that theme: just don't give me sh*t over soloing if nobody wants to fly with me or someone else. We should also have the discretion to (initially) politely ask people to hop out if they obviously don't know what they're doing.
I'm open to discussion on all of these things, so let's get this finalized and get the ball rolling.Comment

Here here. People who pay, are the ones with a say. Id imagine those who chip in, would be able to choose one extra admin each, from the player base on the server. So that the adminship is covered. The LAST thing anyone would want to, is those who are paying, losing control over their server. But in the same time, those who do actually pay and govern, should be people who are reliable and actually are decent human beings.
NY server gives me a 120-150 ping and that is nice.An east coast server with a <120 ping for us euro's would be optimal I think.
Im considering the idea of chipping in, depending on whether or not this takes off and where the server will be located.Comment

For rules I suggest:- No uncap attacks unless the attacking team holds all capable flags.
- No hacks, glitches or padding. duh.
- Soloing allowed, but NO kicking for incompetence in the chopper. As Webs said, we have a reputation to adhere to.
- Lenient language and ping filters.
Server wise, I suggest:
A 32 man server, running vehicles on a map rotation something akin to:
- Oman - 64.
- Mashtuur - 16. (So much goddam fun.)
- Daqing - 64.
- Sharqui - 64.
- Kubra - 64.
Running 2 or 3 rounds per map.
Of course, once the server is running, we can change it according to what TGN members want. Maybe a section or thread in the forums to discuss the way in which the server is run is in order.Comment

Its actually one of my favourite rules, but the difficulty maintaining the rule comes from available admin coverage. So you do need more admins to keep this rule afloat.
Hence the idea of everyone who chipped in, becoming admins (provided they have passed the requirememnts of "decent human being"
, and every admin can have one (a random number) extra admin of his own choosing. To keep this process as simple as possible, the additional admin has to be from TGN and has to be approved by the majority of the people who pay for the server. This way, the process of getting admin coverage is kept simplistic and reliable in terms of selecting out the ones who arent fit for the job.
Id expand here. While gameplay tricks and trickeries should be allowed, redlining, teamkilling and the rest of what people would consider offensive and asshattery-like, would get punished.-Soloing allowed, but NO kicking for incompetence in the chopper. As Webs said, we have a reputation to adhere to.
Language filters fvcking suck! The end. When Id get my buddies over, and we make a private squad, the last thing Id like, is getting kicked for a joke.- Lenient language and ping filters.
The worst lingual abuses are racial slurs. Ban the words like "n'gger" and all of its variations. Aswell as those used against middle eastern people.
Consider it from a pub players point of view. Daquing and Kubra are great maps and Kubra is one of my personal favourites, but are they fun to play? Kubra is too spread out for 32 players. Daquing is depressing.Oman.
Mashtuur.
Daqing
Sharqui.
Kubra.
Oman
Mashtuur
Sharqi
Karkand (yes)
Dalian
The purpose would be to come up with a map rotation that would favour an infantry player as thats the majority whos going to be playing on the server. A rotation in a form of CITY-AIR-CITY-AIR-CITY-AIR, 4 rounds each would suit good?
Also, consider 32 player map selection for air maps like Oman and Dalian to pack the action in. 32 player Oman is one of the most optimal map in BF2. Im, however, not familiar with how the tickets get distributed. Do they depend on map sizes or the player count?
2 is too low, 3 is better, 4 is awesome. Consider people who load in slow and dont want to reload every 30 minutes.Running 2 or 3 rounds per map.
